I saw an interesting tweet about this. The UK delegation mentioned how they aimed for a UK number 1 with this song (and other Eurovision songs) but I think their mistake is they correlate a chart topping song with a great Eurovision song. There has been an interesting shift in Eurovision recently where more experimental and daring songs are being rewarded, and typical ‘chart topping’ pop songs fade into the background. Eurovision is actually evolving beyond the charts, if anything, when i listen to the UK charts these days I find it a bit boring and samey, and most of the songs are not ones which would (most likely) do well at Eurovision. Of course staging/live performance can completely change a song (I’m thinking Austria 2014 and Australia 2016), but I think next time the UK needs to step a bit outside their comfort zone and stop thinking about the charts and start thinking about competition, similar to what the Netherlands did this year. I’d love to see us send rock/alternative, which we are very good at and has recently been doing well as a genre at Eurovision, or one day maybe even grime which is very unique to the British music scene. Olly’s song is decent, but this year is SUPER stacked, he has competition with Switzerland, Belgium and Lithuania who have extremely popular and slick songs, as well as songs like Norway, Netherlands Italy and France who all stand out amongst the pack too. Even with amazing staging, I think Olly will struggle to stand out; as many of the other fan favourite songs have jury appeal too.
Yepp exactly that. Always said that a good chart means nothing when it comes to Eurovision. Hard to see this competing with those countries you mentioned!
The BBC needs to start understanding that they have to take more risks if they want to win Eurovision. We expect so much more from the UK in terms of songs and music and all this is very disappointing. The United Kingdom can be lucky not to have to go through the semi-finals. Very average song. Good luck anyway. Lets hope staging can save this song

Yeah we know what "you mean" lol First listen does feel as something is missing from the song, but after a few listens it's seriously gross on you
You're right again.
Over hyped but doesn't deliver...
Circa 1996
We’re good at overhyping things here 🤣
Deux points so far
Its got some erasure vibes
You’re right…. It’s not bad per se. Just totally forgettable, especially amongst a large chunk of the other entries.

The BBC need to stop funding the contest.
