Snap-on BUY ONCE, CRY ONCE should be their other alternative. The regret you have for SO is when you are paying for them. Not when using them. Nothing worse than when you have to buy another tool because you’re less expensive alternative failed. I’ve limped off the truck with my wallet bleeding but never regretted any of them.

Sir, Fantastic channel you have, keep up the good work. I was a Snap-On dealer for 15 years and really studied their products and most of all their history and how deep they were in the building of the USA industrial section. WW2, and all the top car makers, NASA and the space program, not to mention all the nuclear plants. The nuclear plants have clean rooms and Snap-On has made special toolboxes and all Crome hammers with special interest in the forging and metal compositions as to not infect other materials it touches. WW2 Snap-On tools made 9/32 drive socket sets and ratchet sets (these are in-between 1/4 and 3/8 drive for tanks and other vehicles and the standing order was to throw the tool away if captured so the enemy would have to manufacture tools to disassemble our tanks etc.). All the airplanes manufactured had special tools to work on bolts that were in hard-to-reach places. They have special catalogs for that. A little-known fact, Barksdale air force base flew a special snap-tool to Iraq before the gulf war to start, something to do with loading the bombs on the B-52's. WOW, one company the USA depending on, (top that you look alike tool company's). The list goes on and on the more people you meet in the company. Why the success, very simple, everyone except the clerical is on Commision. Nobody gets paid until the tool is sold. You talk about a sales force that is motivated, it's shocking to see a district manager or sales manager cleaning your tools while you're in the shop talking to customers. They did a BILLION dollars in 1989 while the others did 3,4,5 million. They have a passion for their products, and everybody knows their job. Snap-On is in it for the long haul to help our economy and keep Americans working, never met a negative person working for the company. They really care for their dealers and especially their customers. If you have any questions please reply, Les.

For a couple years Snap On didn't stamp USA on their ratchets,I have a few of them this way.Snap On did have a hand tool plant in Canada, some were made in Canada.Snap On did sell tools to our military during WW2,these era tools are different in a few ways with no warranty on them.No lines on the sockets and extensions with a dull finish with a letter V in the part number in this era military tools. Was in the contract,no warranty on them.Latest warranty with Snap On I had was with 3 slotted screwdrivers, the tips were chrome peeling with the shanks replaced under warranty.Snap On covers chrome peeling under warranty,a safety issue cutting the user

I used to be almost always on default toward Snap On. But their prices have gotten so
High and they’re quality hasn’t kept up, especially in the electronics area. So many products made overseas.
Now I buy from them only if I can justify doing so and not by default.

The price to me doesn’t matter. It’s their model that is antiquated. They need to boost their online presence, maybe offer a corporate owned retail experience and start buying back their trucks. I have deep pockets, and I try really hard to give my snap on dealer money... but his general unresponsiveness and lack of stock makes it just make more sense for me to order stuff online. I think a lot of these guys have zero clue on how to run a business... they just like tools and think hey I can get paid to hang around tools all day.

  • @greghaselhorst8649
    @greghaselhorst8649 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Thanks for the informative videos. I would like to add that you can buy Snap-on tools on-line directly and also there is a HUGE new, like new, and barely used inventory of Snap-on tools available from sources such as E-bay, Garage Journal, Craigslist, estate sales, etc. To me, that is giant advantage of the Snap-on brand being around for so long. The next best is vintage Craftsman tools. Those are in the best 'bang for the buck' category for new or experienced technician. Keep up with the great videos. Thank you.

Excellent and informative vid, the laws of diminishing returns definitely kick in with nearly all high end products from tools to exotic vehicles. At some point you will pay a lot more money for that extra 10 or 20% increase in performance or quality. For some who have the need/budget for that increase, it is well worth the cost, for others the sweet spot is trying to find the best bang for your buck without to many compromises for your needs.

I have been in the industry for over 16 years and have had a few snap on dealers. I have never seen that actually happen. Most never let the new guys go over a couple hundred dollars for awhile. I have heard of it. Maybe new dealers are more prone to doing that.

  • @gregblau8082

A good rep makes a huge difference. I had a couple that would pull up. Maybe smoke a cigarette and expect people to come to them. The one I have now goes around to everyone to see what we need, has pretty much whatever you need on the truck and takes the time to look for tools he doesn’t stock. I wish I could have given my money to a guy like that instead of most of our dealings being warranty repairs but then again I would have spent a lot more.

Snap on is the best to me because, I have a ton of hand tools for over 20years and maybe had to replace a couple over the years. See, you don’t buy tools because of a lifetime warranty. You buy quality tools, because when your working on something, time is money. If your tools always breaks or breaks often, that’s wasted time. Over 20 years, Snap on tools have very rarely cost me time because they broke. That’s why you pay the higher price.

I think Snap on did for the tool industry what Glock did in the gun industry. Glock marketed themselves very well early on and is the go to service pistol for almost every agency and police department around the world. Even Naval Special Warfare has switched to Glock. Snap On marketed themselves extremely well early on in the 1900s and that reputation carried them on as being the absolute best, arguably they are but the empire of Snap On for sure isn’t going anywhere. The franchisees of Snap On are both their best AND worst assets for sure, some are absolutely awesome and some are just frankly horrible.

2- Glock is more affordable than many guns "Snap-on is not, it's the most expensive tool brand in the USA more expensive than any other tool by far shot".
3- Glock is not a USA made nor brand.
4- Glock is sold to every you dont have to have a rep.
5- Glock is world wide recognized brand "snap on is not matter fact many countries never heard if it. And some call it crap-on.

I completely disagree on the high quality materials of the tools. Take a look at how much thicker the tools are now. Sockets, extensions etc. they beefed them up because the material has less tensile strength. We did tests on it. It’s not the same stuff at the 1990s snap on.., witch was the brands hay day.
New screwdrivers are trash. Harbor freight holds up better.
As for being a globally traded company….Not good, the board makes decisions and it always in the shareholders best interests. They threw out quality in favor of making a buck.
I honestly hate say all this because it was such a good brand. It’s turned into overpriced mediocre tools…..
