    This man represents everything that is wrong with the american justice system. Absolute disgrace, happy to help a self confessed murderer go free if it means he gets a cheque at the end of it. No morals

      +corsinivideos A lawyer acting in your best interest is representative of what's WRONG with the American justice system? That's retarded. What's wrong is that most lawyers aren't nearly this good.

      I think you guys need a lesson in civics. A lawyer is there to fight as hard as possible for his/her client. This is an exceptional attorney. Read the 5th amendment in the Bill of Rights. This is what makes our country strong. As a lawyer, I have defended plenty of people I knew who were guilty. But in order to convict a person of a crime, the government must be able to prove they committed the crime beyond a reasonable doubt. This isn't so much as to protect the guilty, but to ensure when an innocent person is arrested, that person will not be convicted. It's better to let 100 guilty go free, then have one innocent person convicted of a crime they did not commit. And those lawyers who fight as hard as they can, when they know their clients are guilty, are doing so in order to honor the founders of this great country who wrote the 5th amendment, not to upset the court of public opinion.

      George Derieg well the system doesnt work. its a capitalist system and to deny that is to be very naive. in america the avarege man is the decider and the avarege man is very dumb so the jury are very easily manipulated. excuse my spelling i'm not american.

      It's in the best interest of everyone for the accused to have proper representation and for the best argument in their defense to be presented. If he wasn't adequately represented there'd always be the question of if he did it or not. If a good lawyer presents the best possible case in his defense and it is still shown beyond a shadow of a doubt that the person is guilty... then we know for sure that justice was served and they got the right guy.

    • @georgederieg1457
      @georgederieg1457 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The lawyer is there to argue, and that's what he's doing. Will that argument be persuasive, as a former criminal defense attorney, I would say probably not. But what else should he do? He is being paid to fight these charges, this interview he gave was quite good, but in the end, Durst will probably be convicted. I love how all lawyers are vilified, but in reality, we fight for our clients as hard as we can, within the limits of the law. If we do not fight as hard as we can, then we could lose our license.

    • @jimmorton1169
      @jimmorton1169 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lawyers are OFFICERS of the COURT. You DO have the right, as an attorney, to refuse to defend a client you know is guilty without ANY fear of losing your license. We cannot live in America without attorneys. But don't play the "I'm a poor lawyer who will be disbarred if I fail to "fight as hard as I can" , which in the DURST Case you have to be an idiot to not read between the lines here and see the man is guilty, in which case you can refuse the case ALONG with the s&^$ton of money you would get on retainer. Exactly because the idiot DURST agreed to say all these things on a TV program, which the lawyer in this video admits watching, would lead any normal person to the conclusion that the man is guilty. I know some people blindly vilify attorneys, however this attorney is taking on a person who he knows is guilty of multiple brutal homicides, and we "non-attorneys" are expressing normal reactions when we encounter a serial killer.
      Anyway, I'm sure you are are a good attorney, just please don't play the "victim card"--it makes you sound weak, and, as an attorney, you know how that plays to us common folk.

    • @georgederieg1457
      @georgederieg1457 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jim Morton there are a ton of different types of lawyers. They don't have to practice criminal defense. But those that do, don't refuse client's because they believe they are guilty. A criminal defense attorney who only wants innocent clients is going to have serious problems finding one. They are rare. There were many cases I found hard to defend because of my background and that's perfectly fine. THose cases weren't assigned to me. But if a lawyer does not fight as hard as he/she can for a client, that is ineffective assistance of counsel and that can trigger a retrial. We are officers of the court, that means we cannot actually lie. But we can argue. Argument isn't under oath, it isn't evidence. It's a persuasive side of a story. You just keep vilifying us lawyers who represent people we know are guilty. Maybe when you get older, you'll realize there is no one completely innocent, and everyone is guilty of something. Maybe think first because you just judge criminal defendants. it may make you feel like you're better than other people, but deep down we all know what you really are.. a hypocrite.
      And I'm not playing the "poor me". I've refused plenty of cases. But not midway through the case.

    • @georgederieg1457
      @georgederieg1457 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      And it's a badge of honor not a "poor me". Don't ever feel bad for a lawyer. Many of us have killed our profession with terrible actions. I'm just trying to let everyone know that we all aren't terrible people who want to watch the world burn. We want to represent our clients and at the end of the day if the guilty person is convicted, "horray" justice is served.

      Thank you for your frank reply, Mr. Derieg, and especially the implication that I may be younger than you! I'm not a hypocrite. I do understand and appreciate the predicament lawyers find themselves in at times, just as we in criminal justice counseling find ourselves...... I just think I would sleep better working for a DA than the PD. I know you have to pay your dues. I'm just saying I wouldn't be able to do anything to assist Mr. Durst, as it seems evident he is guilty. You are right though, and this is an interesting conversation that I think others might enjoy....lawyers are vilified, yet guess who everyone calls when they need one!!!?? right. touche

      +Bridgette Young if the letter to police was from him (sounds like he himself admits that in toilet by saying: "he was right, i was wrong") that could be explained in a way it wasn't him confessing murdering Susan. Maybe he just went to the house, saw the body and didn't want to get involved but didn't want to leave the body to rotten there either. If he really had been so cold blooded and murdered Susan why the hell would he be so concerned about the body.

    • @2biaz
