- The Untold Story: What Really Happened to India Arie
India Arie is a four-time Grammy Award winner for her work as a singer, songwriter, actress, and record producer. Over the course of her career, she has sold over ten million records globally. Arie Simpson was born on October 3, 1975, in Denver, Colorado to Joyce and Ralph Simpson. When Arie was 13, her parents split, and she moved to Atlanta, Georgia, with her mother and siblings. When Arie moved to Atlanta, she began to learn to play the guitar. Arie afterward learned to play the saxophone, baritone clarinet, French horn, and trumpet. Arie studied jewelry design at Savannah College of Arts and Design. She would finally give up on this in order to devote her full attention to music.

She doesn't get the flowers she deserves. I have always admired how she didn't get lost in an industry that only wants to degrade black women and they fact that her sexy was always classy. She is hands down one of the best artist who always have a message in her music. Great video.
I love her. Her song "Strength, Courage, and Wisdom " got me thru hard times and helped me to accomplish my goal of finishing my BS Degree. I went to her concert in 2007 and I had never walked out of a concert feeling like such a powerful woman

India Arie is one of my favorite musical artist. She is a true artist who is soulful, passionate, thought-provking and uplifting. She deserves more credit, recognition and just due in the music industry.
When I first heard Indie Arie's voice was fighting breast cancer. Her voice and the lyrics that she composed gave me peace and understanding. And I don't know why the music slept on this queen but those of us that truly appreciated GOOD MUSIC, love Indie Arie. Plus she is gorgeous!! Her and David Banner made the video so believable. I actually she and he were a couple!!!

I've always had a lot of respect for India. She always followed her own path and not that of others. She is a strong woman who very early in her career, stated her talent wasn't going to be dictated by "sexiness". I think that made her more sexy and more beautiful. She stayed true to herself, not industry desires. For this reason alone, she is one of the most underrated artists out there.
Sadly, the industry has a fettish towards degrading women. Doesn't matter how well they can sing/rap.

Nawwwww naw naw, the worst the grammys ever did was when they gave Michael Jackson NOTHING in 1988. He released Bad the year prior-which to this day is STILL the 2nd best selling album of ALL time. It also had 5 #1 hits on it like The Way You Make Me Feel and Man In the Mirror. Yet they gave him NOTHING.

@@sasfiremaiden840 I write and I self publish children's books. One day I had to do a professional photo shoot, everything was fine until the photographer said "hay wouldn't it be cool if you place one of your books over right eye?" I said no, no thanks I will not do that.

@@sasfiremaiden840 I should have asked, to this day ( about a month ago) I wish I asked. I already know what it means and represents but I should have asked her what it means to her and why she asked people to pose like that. I think I didn't asked her because I kinda startled her by my quick response of no because I was shocked. Later in the year I'll schedule another photo shoot, if I'm asked again (hopefully) I'm going to asked the photographer what is this pose for? Tune in, in about six months. I'll put in a update on here.

What in the world is going on here? This video is all over the place and repetitive.
So basically the music was handed to her…. Meaning she was born into money also. She talented but I like to see the story’s of people coming from nothing and thats what impresses me.
Stories of grit and struggle to get to a particular endpoint....yes, they speak to my soul in a different way too.
India is very talented but I was disappointed in her when she lightened her skin. It just screams self hate!
Never did she do that. Her photos were edited and she spoke on that upsetting her.
