Song is about a breakup but its dedicated to his bandmate Paul Gray because Paul convinced him to keep the song and Paul died from a drug overdose, so the song has two definitions of sadness.
It wasnt that he convinced him to keep the song, Corey was writing the song for his other band Stone Sour, but Paul convinced him to bring it to Slipknot instead.
This is my favorite lyric of the song. My gf killed herself. And I have "Abandon Hope" tattooed on my arm for that reason. Abandon Hope and let go. So yea, this lyric is truth.
I cannot decide if I like the acoustic live version or the Slipknot version. I love both for different reasons. The rawness of this one just does something to my soul.
I definitely hear the song as " I'm not good enough for you, so I'm going to push you away, but if you loved me, you wouldn't let me" His pain is the unstoppable force and the other person he needs to be the immovable object. Also, how fucking brilliant is Corey Taylor? Rock God status!
That's how it is in the beginning. He's blaming himself for the breakup, until he sees it for how it is. "You sold me out to save yourself, and I won't listen to your shame. Your ran away, you're all the same. Angels lie to keep control. If you still care, don't ever let me know". He was madly in love with her and she didn't love him, but she strung him along, my guess, because she liked the attention (Angels lie to keep control). The way things are worded, I think she cheated on him. And then the end he's saying, don't you dare tell me you still care because I can't go through a heartbreak like this again. I'd rather just not know and move on. and boy, I've been in that situation and that's EXACTLY how you feel.
Corey Taylors live performance of "Bother" from this same concert is just stunning!!! The audience background vocals will leave you with goosebumps!!!! You need to react to that!
This is a Slipknot song sung by the lead singer on one of his book tours. You've heard of him, just not without the mask. Slipknot Official version - th-cam.com/video/LXEKuttVRIo/w-d-xo.html
Asia and BJ phenomenal reaction as always! Corey Taylor is the lead singer of Slipknot and Stone Sour. The song was originally a breakup/relationship song but following the death of Paul Gray (friend and bandmate) it became so much more, that's why it is a heavy song.
He wrote this when he separated from his partner a 2nd time over personal issues. His late best friend fought to keep it on the album and passed on from an overdose not to long after so it brings 2× the emotion it would normally bring. You can feel the pain he feels while singing. In the original video not the short lyric one he says to the crowd "this is gonna be hard and I will need all the help I can get" (may have gotten some of the quote wrong but those were the sentiments. The ex partner was a yoyo and he got tired of it and he finally said leave me alone cause it brought him deeper into his addiction, he stopped drugs but continued drinking at the time and thought that was OK cause he was trying to get clean without help.
According to Corey, this is a very personal song. He said the person he’s singing to was someone very special to him who helped him survive a really dark episode of his life. He ended up falling for her and thought she had similar feelings for him. However, at the end of the day she disappointed him in a really heartbreaking fashion. Below are the exact words Corey used in describing this song during a 2008 interview he had with Kerrang.
This song was originally made for his ex-wife and his best friend and guitarist who was apart of the band passed away back in 2012-2013. So He dedicated this song to his late friend.
Corey had said that he had written the song about a female friend of his that was very close to him and helped him during a difficult time of addiction and depression. Corey was having feelings for her, but she wasn't feeling the same way. Corey's bandmate, Paul Gray, then died of an OD and had encouraged Corey to produce the song. Song is very, very personal for Corey.
I’m blessed to have seen them with original lineup in Copenhagen , Denmark warming up for Metallica and they almost blew Metallica out the park! The intensity of both bands were just incredible!! Best concert I ever seen! As a Danish American both band’s legends!
The beauty in this song is it’s got three perspectives at once and could be in many stories happening in people’s lives. I heard it after a tragedy. I see it from the person who died(brother inlaw and best friend) myself, and the significant other.
I love that view of being self toxic and being afraid to be in a relationship because of it. I have not heard that interpretation before. It’s amazing how 100 different people can listen to the same song and interpret it 100 unique ways. Music is the shit
I just wished you reacted to the other video where you could see how he cried at the end of the perf.. "I wish you weren't my friend, so I could hurt you in the end" this got me.. This song is part of my daily life..
One thing I love about watching reaction videos...it don't matter what race, creed, color, politics, sexuality any of us or where we come frome for 15 frikin minutes we can sit back and just jam and enjoy the word...thank you!!!
Corey Taylor, I believe, has one of the best voices in heavy metal...he's usually the lead screamer/growler of Slipknot. It's amazing that he can do that, but also this. He's an incredible artist.
I would like to see your faces when you realize, that Corey is the vocalist of Slipknot😅 I absolutely love Coreys voice. He's one of my top 3 favourite artists. You should check out Apocalyptica ft Corey Taylor "I'm not Jesus". Plus I have to suggest Stone Sour (one of Coreys bands): Trough Glass. Greetings from Germany
Always love how happy Asia is at the start of vids. Infectious. Also, only a woman can drive someone to write lyrics like that. And only losing a trusted friend who pushed you to write the song can cement the pain forever.
The song was written with and for Paul Gray. Paul died of a heroin overdose in a hotel. Paul was Coreys close friend. Thats why in the beginning he says its a heavy song. Great and honest reaction. I love you guys keep it up
no, the song was originally written in response to a harsh breakup. paul gray heard it for the first time, and insisted it be added to one of the slipknot albums. now that paul is gone, it's even more sad
As others have said, Corey is the singer for Slipknot, and his other band Stone Sour, plus his solo touring group (CMFT) Song was written about an ex, he loved her, she rejected him He took it to Slipknot but he thought it too soft for them, but his friend in the band Paul Gray encouraged him to develop it, and the band released it - the official Slipknot video is dark to go with the lyrics Paul sadly OD'd and died in 2010, and Corey has dedicated this accoustic version to him ever since so a double meaning. He struggles through the 'I only wish you werent my friend, so I could hurt you in the end' On a side note, check out his covers of Everlong (Foo Fighters) and more He also does the Spongebob theme tune later in this set He has an amazing 8 octave range - if you read the lyrics to Slipknot rather than the growl all of them are fascinating to read through - pain, disaffection, addiction, anger. I find it cathartic.
The song is about his friend, a lady who helped him trough a rough time. And in time het got feelings for her, and put all his love in his soul. But this friend didn't feel the same for him and she let him and their friendship go. So he broke down. Then Joey Jordison, drummer of their band Slipknot motivated him to put this song on the album that they recorded.Short after recording this song his friend Joey died. So this song had a double meaning: losing the love hé had, and later losing his friend..
