    Welcome to my first Trek road bike comparison!! This video describes all the main differences among the 2022 Trek Domane, Trek Emonda, and Trek Madone bikes to help you decide which road bike is the best for your needs.
    (I also briefly mention the Trek FX, Boone, Speed Concept, Checkpoint, and 520 for reference, but this will mainly cover the road models, including aluminum versions like the Trek Domane AL 2, Trek Emonda ALR 5, as well as carbon fiber bikes like the Trek Madone SL 6, and the higher end Domane, Emonda, and Madone SLR 9 eTap bikes).

    Don't discount the Domane as it is an *INCREDIBLY* comfortable bike, it's almost as if it had a full suspension and soaks up bumps better, much better than say an aluminum gravel bike with much bigger tires. With the 32mm tires you barely feel anything. Wow it's comfortable.
    The Madone is very stable. It's good if you're on flats and looking for top speed but it doesn't tell the full story because when you're in a group and doing the "peloton" thing, I find in my Emonda XLR with the Aeolus RSL 37 wheels neck to neck I am trying less hard than my friend with similar Madone in all positions except lead. Once you're in the lead yes the aero helps. Or in more disorganized rides on flats its hard to keep up with my buddy who has a Madone especially downhill. But when we're doing the peloton thing with rotation in a disciplined group I always work less hard than he does. That little bit less weight in the thinner (but less aero) wheels counts more than the aero which stops counting if you have a bunch of other riders cutting the air for you.
    I went with the Emonda because it was the most responsive. "Aggressive cyclist" is my name, I just like to "feel the power" and the Emonda does it best. Its a delight and more responsive but alone isn't quite as fast. It's almost like the Emonda is a sports car and the Madone is more of a German sedan with a huge powerful motor. The Madone is better at holding energy in one direction but is less maneuverable yet more stable, you take a turn and it keeps the line. The Emonda is better at transferring energy when changing direction either through curves or up/down but it's more twitchy for better or worse. The other downside of the Emonda has to do with its best part: it's VERY stiff. You feel everything. Can still do centuries with it OK and did one yesterday, but if and when I can get a deal on a high end second hand Domane I might consider picking one up especially for solo longer rides where speed and ability to keep up counts less than comfort.

      Could you explain the transferring energy and being twitchy part for the emonda? I'm considering getting the alr 5 emonda 2022 but doing research. I'm looking for speed because I keep getting smoked by grandpa's on my academy sports n outdoor bike

      @@midorian12491 Hello Copeland the most important element for speed is your fitness level. As long as you have a road bike and are not attacking the "old guys" with say a steel framed Walmart mountain bike, it's not going to make that much difference.
      I have the SLR so it's very tight, responsive and stiff. It changes direction very easily but also transfers the momentum. Rode all three Emonda, Madone and Domane but the Emonda specializes in just changing directions in all ways. What I mean is not only can you hold more speed as you quickly turn left/right, but you can also transfer more of that speed on a fast descent that works its way into a climb. More than any bike with my Emonda SLR (carbon) I can bomb down a hill, and as long as the uphill isn't too long have enough momentum that I don't need to downshift much or at all. This effect is less with the Madone and Domane which feel more chunky and less responsive every time you change direction be it a left/right turn or transition from down to up.
      The AL versions are fine but with aluminum frame not going to get that superhero energy transfer. It will still be light. It will still be responsive for sure. But as long as your current bike isn't garbage nothing will make up for lack of fitness. If your current bike is halfway decent your money would probably be best spent on hiring a coach/trainer, buying some weights (they don't have to cost a lot, even adjustable dumbbells will do) and just working out more and in different ways to increase your abilities.

    Nice Video showing the differences. I own a 2020 Dommane SL 5 and recently added the Bontrager Pro51 wheelset. WOW!!!! Depending on the route, my average speed increased by over 2.3 mph!! So aero makes the difference. If you're into riding longer distances, go with the Domane. If you want to race, go with Madone or Emonda.

      I’m 5’1” and 115 lbs. which bike would be better for me? I tend to ride 20-30 miles at a time, but I live in an area where the topography is insane: it’s very hilly

    Thanks. I've been riding the same Trek bike for 45 years. Yesterday I snapped the crank arm. First of the original components to break. I ordered a replacement off of eBay, but it might be time for a new bike. Don't really have confidence in the old girl anymore.
    This video was quite helpful.

    Thank you for the fantastic video! I’m currently looking at a new road bike because the one I have now is not getting the job done AT ALL. I paid $250 for it, so that explains why, lmao. I know nothing about bikes, so it's overwhelming to choose an incredible bike around the $1200 price range because there are so many good options. I hear good reviews about Trek and not-so-good ones. Usually, it's about customer service if it's a bad review about Trek. Lately, I’ve been eying the Domane AL 3 Disc because I've seen solid reviews on TH-cam and other places. I’m looking for something that has phenomenal speed, can eat miles, handle light gravel, and has no trouble going uphill quickly-and LOOOOONG distances without feeling dead. Like, 20-25 miles in one go, if need be. Again, thank you for the fantastic video!

    perfect timing for comparison. I sort of regret I got rid of the Tarmac Sport for Quick 1. I am back in the market for a roadie and seriously considering Domane SL5 as 105 groupset is all I will need. having two other new bikes for different use but if ISO on Domain [f/b] works out compare to the Roubaix I had with future1.5, I will have to get rid of Quick 1. like to see Talalipop to a rider comparison of Roubaix Future 2.0 with latest ISO [F/B] setup to see which "feels" best. I never got used to the Future 1.5 on a Roubaix and with the recall I switched over the Tarmac just to switch over to Quick 1. so many nice bikes out there it's hard to decide.

    I was thinking about getting the emonda but I also have to do some light gravel on parts of trails but I like the more racing type benefits of the emonda do you think some light gravel will be fine on it or stay clear.

    • @TalalipopMTB
      @TalalipopMTB  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Emonda is a very stiff bike so it would be the least comfortable on bumpy terrain, and the tire clearance isn’t that good either so fitting a larger tire would still not give you much benefit. I think it could be okay if you just ride small sections, but it is more prone to flats in that case which would be annoying

  • @Rocky4719
    @Rocky4719 ปีที่แล้ว

    I also noticed that, at least the models presented in the video, the trek logo got much larger, from the domane to the emonda to the Madone. I guess trek *really* wants people who see those bikes to know what brand they’re looking at

      Trek would recommend a size medium frame for that bike. You could totally go M/L as well if you want a bigger bike though. The smaller frame size will seem a bit more manageable and nimble. Mainly personal preference there

    • @TalalipopMTB

      Either of those bikes will be faster than the Dual Sport 3 so you’re in a good spot. Domane is the comfort road bike so it’s not necessarily designed for speed but still is fast. They usually have pretty robust tires too to prevent against flats. It’s a difficult decision since both bikes can accommodate road or gravel tires. I’d say get domane and put gravel tires on it if you’re only planning on road riding, but if you do want to hit some light trails and stuff more often then checkpoint should be better

    I’m enjoying the bike so far th-cam.com/users/postUgkxMesz3KOGEmwmvyKQfLfrRSUXLFzfVHZA My only real complaints are the brakes and the pedals. I feel like a bike designed for bigger people should have much larger pedals and more heavy duty brakes. I’ve only gotten two really good rides out of it, minimal downhill action, and the brakes feel like they’re already going out. A larger person has more momentum, so I think this wasn’t thought through very well. Also, I wear size 13-14 wide shoes. My feet cramp up on these pedals that are clearly made for smaller feet. Since I’m not a pro rider (and I don’t think many are who purchase this bike) I don’t think that the straps on the pedal are necessary at all. None of this takes away from the enjoyment I get from riding, however. I’ll just head to a bike shop to improve on a few things.
