Hello Lisa how are you doing hope you’re having a great time with your family, may God bless you and your family and I’m sorry for your loss
What a lovely reflection, Lisa. Here in Mayo, Ireland, listening to this song by Freddy and preparing to include it on my TV show that goes out in Ireland and the UK. There is a special magic about this song sung in English and Spanish. It just touches the soul.
I will always listen to oldies but goodies
Hello Mary, how are you doing today, hope you’re fine and safe from the COVID-19 virus??
I remember my dad singing to this song crying. We tried playing it over and over again to him when he went into a coma. We did get a smile out of him but he never recovered. God rest he's and Freddy's souls. I hold this song close to my heart and play it when I need a good cry 💔😔🙏🏻🙏🏻
Trust me. He heard it...
+Pat Pape thank you for your comforting message ❤️
thats so sad.my dad died of cancer, but would spend all his spare time recording old country songs.what did he die from?
May he rest easy with the Lord
.
Freddy entered the studio. He sings the song completely in English. Estelle Parsons, stops him, after listening to the song, "Freddie, could you do me a favor and sing part of it in Spanish." He had to be pushed into singing it in Spanish. "There are millions of Spanish music buyers...it will increase the sales triple." And, it did. Well done Freddy
...many of his songs were bilingual.
Voice of angel right there.as a kid riding with my dad in the car it's was the oldie station on all the time, I didn't see it then, now I close my eyes and listen.
Cool. Thanks

She Waits...As my souls aspires to rain and the fog is in my eye. Will the pain ever stop and the tears start to dry? You see i am so sad because i've lost the one,by whom i'm so proud to be called grandson.I know her souls in heaven as my heart begins to sing, because i know she waits patiently in the wings. This is a special tribute to my grandmother Edris Helen Blair 5-3-25 to 7-6-03
Wait...hold up.😳
Rip beautiful voice and person
This song reminds me of my mom and grandmother. They both loved this song and they are both deceased 😢.
He has a most soothing voice. I just love his songs.
My mom loved this tune
My grandpa taught me this song. When I was 12 he passed away due to stage 4 cancer. I redound this song a few months ago and promised to learn all the lyrics. This song still brings tears to my eyes
One does not simply dislike a timeless classic.
Absolutely correct
Never
You sound like my mommy
Me mama
So sweet
Fantastic entertainer !! One of my favorite songs is The Border. He also was my father in law and mother in law's favorite singer. They had his music played at their wedding. Both of them were older and went through a lot of strife in life. Everytime they played his music they danced together !!
This song is one of my favorite nice memories RIP Freddy still listening to your song. How are you Nancie ?
My dad was an avid Freddie Fender fan! Going back quite a few years; I remember him getting his first eight track tape of Freddie! He loved this particular song! My dad was there to dry a few tear drops in my teenage years and mend my broken heart. But none were ever greater than losing my dad to cancer. I know he's always there when I'm missing him, and the next tear drop falls. I love you dad more than words could ever be written; spoken or sung. This song brings back great memories. Love eternal. 💔🙏😢
Hello Maria
How are you doing today?
Had an orange Ford Pinto. No heat. No air Single mom with two girls. Only one 8 track tape. Freddie Fender.. no matter where we were going we were happy and singing along to this tape. Miss those days . Miss my tape . Don't miss the car ....
This song is one of my fave. From 2019 anybody?
Makes you want to cry in your beer..
I'm here with you Anne. Want me to sing it to you?
In remembrance of my Uncle Bobby I would go visit every summer and listen to Freddy Fender with sometimes we would dance I was just a young girl. My Uncle Bobby passed away last year it was so sad so everytime I hear Greddy Fender it makes me cry .What an awesome singer. My Uncle would sing in both versions the spanish and english and it taught me to when I was a young girl.
Marie Collins mmm

My meemaw loved this song and when I was 11 years old and going to my first school dance, she played this 45 over and over and she taught me how to slow dance. She smoked Winston cigarettes and she had a cigarette in her mouth the whole time and to this day every time I hear this song my eyes water
Such lovely memories e 🌹🌹
My Grandmother loved this song too. Her and her sisters used to have Sunday jam sessions in the kitchen at our house. Nana on the guitar, Aunty Dulcie playing the steel and every available voice in the house on vocals. Man I miss those days!
Glad that crap is going away. I'm sorry to all those whom I burned one in the presence of who wanted to be in the situation but not in the carcinogens. Now if I could just ditch the vape for good. I dont wanna be that guy, but since about 6 months since I burned my last cigarette, and the house has aired out a bit, dam* that shi* really does stink.
@Steve Wilson Good luck for you that you had a good grandmother. Love your story about her.

Oh wow... every country bar in the early 1970's had this on the juke box.... I can still smell the bar room as I listen to this... timeless classic...
one of the best country singers ever! my grandma seen him at the old field house in erie ,pa in 1977! god bless him and we miss him!
RIP Mr. Fender, you were a talented and special man and, ... I love singing along with this song!
+Stephanie Trinh He was one of the very best in Country Music. Before he died his dream was to be inducted into The Country Music Hall Of Fame. Freddy passed with his dream not coming true. To this date that I know of he still hasn't been placed in The Hall Of Fame, and what about Johnny Rodriguez. He's not in The Hall Of Fame. There's singers in The Hall Of Fame that have done less for Country Music. Why is Freddy, and Johnny left out?
+Steffie Trinh he died a couple years ago
so
+ChuLa Saucedo I agree. he was a great country singer and should be recognized.. downloaded his songs today to play in my country music collections.

Those of you that know me and remember my Dad would be suprised to know my Dad was a big Country Western Music Fan and in the early 70s when this was a big hit it often came on the radio in our car on family trips my Dad was a pretty decent Singer and loved this song despite being of Italian heritage and not being formally taught in Spanish he could sing along and. hit all the Spanish parts perfect ! in those days My Dad would sing it to my Mom in the Cars he would be driving as my Father liked having quality Stereo Sound in his Cars !
Sometimes a song can say it all. Beautiful song.
+ibtheonlymarktoo Creep.
Oh man this takes me way back and those were the good ole days!!! Man he can sing. Miss this kind of singing. They just don't sing like they used to anymore. We do have good singers now but just not like they used to be. I mean theres never gonna be another George Jones,Merle Haggard, and Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash and dare I say ELVIS PRESLEY!!!
Freddy Fender's my great uncle, my mother has told me so many stories of her uncle Freddy coming over back in the day while she grew up and having dinner all together at the house. And I've always seen a lot my grandpa's face in myself so seeing his brother here is remarkable. I'm 25 now and and I was just a baby when he saw me but I'm glad I can still cherish his music at least and I'm thankful there's so many out there still cherishing his work of music too.
Hugs to you such a Beautiful song and voice Freddy had I love his music .. RIP

Oh, Freddy . . . the world may not miss you, but the world may not know what "genuine" means. Jesus, I love this stuff . . . and he did the same "live" at the National Date Festival each balmy February night here in the Coachella Valley. He always dragged in big crowds, for this kind of wonderful, sincere, soulful stuff. He was UNIQUE! RIP, Freddy, I love you!
my parents danced to this song when he came to town.
he passed 20 years ago. my mother still cries when she hears it.

My mom was in high school with Freddy Fender (Edinburg, Texas).
His real name given at birth was: Baldemar Huerta.
My mom was not allowed to hang around with this talented singer, because he was a high school pot smoker.

Mr. Porter Wagoner introduced me to Freddy, and Freddy took a liking to me introduced me to Johnny Rodrigueze? Y can remember Freddy took the time to teach compassion to a 7 y/o I am a Heavy Metal headbanger since the 70's When Freddy passed away, is the only time I cried and felt alone! Thankyou Freddy for your music, and to teach humanity!!!!!
John P Dude. Thats heavy. Thanks for sharing that with the rest of us. He. Comes across like a good cat.
My dad loved his music, but had no idea what he looked like. He ended up eating in a diner in Eastern Washington with him, and the waitress asked my dad if he knew who that was. My dad said, Just some Mexican, but the waitress had to tell my dad who he was.

Lyrics Enjoy
If he brings you happiness
Then I wish you all the best
It's your happiness that matters most of all
But if he ever breaks your heart
If the teardrops ever start
I'll be there before the next teardrop falls
Si te quiere de verdad
Y te da felicidad
Te deseo lo más bueno pa' los dos
Pero si te hace llorar
A mé me puedes hablar
Y estaré contigo cuando triste estás
I'll be there anytime
You need me by your side
To drive away every teardrop that you cried
And if he ever leaves you blue
Just remember, I love you
And I'll be there before the next teardrop falls
And I'll be there before the next teardrop falls
@MarcosBryant-mr7jw His voice and the way he adds his native language into some of his music.

I often wonder if music can bring us together as a people in this country, when so much else fails. I remember how we white kids embraced Motown and soul music in the Sixties. And I remember Freddie and Charley Pride, both iconic country music figures who were not, well, white. Not seeing any like that these days in the country world, and they need to be there, to let the white folk who favor country know it isn't just THEIR music. It is the music of all in our great nation.
And this song is one of the most moving country songs ever. Gracias, Freddy. Si, se puede.
loop
Why not cultural appreciation? I mean, we white folk love the music. Motown, Banda, Rap, Hip Hop. You name it. Are we to be told we cannot enjoy it because we are not in the "right" group? Does anyone know here where that goes? Racial war. Genocide. We DO NOT WANT THAT. Or at least most of us not Trump supporters do not.
We are the great country we are BECAUSE of immigrants. Stop them, and see us decline.
Wow. Huge leap there. NO, did not mean that at all. Meant we have been enriched by those different from folks like, well, me. Being I am a WASP, with roots here going back well before the Revolution, meaning the American one. Part of our greatness as a nation is our unique embrace of so many different peoples and cultures, not without conflict or pain. But there. I only hope that attitude continues to inform who we are as a people. Music is just one manifestation of how that has enriched us.
Lethe River so true, we are all treated equal.......
Lethe River I understand where you're coming from, and it's a lot more rare nowadays, due to the fact that music is so accessible. music is so easy to get and waste that people don't stick to much, but if you go into the any underground in any country, you'll find people with countless music interest. my friend from tijuana just recently sold a mambo record to someone in Japan, and I know of this son, salsa, vallenato blog that is ran by this dude in Belgium. The music still unites all types of ethnicities and cultures, unfortunately you just gotta dig deeper for these nerds.
I dont know how anyone can give this a thumbs down.beautiful song great singer.peace

I had never heard of this song until I read about it in the Stereogum column "The Number Ones" (superb column, BTW). I decided to check it out. And it's a fantastic song, movingly beautiful with a great message of love and hope. 10/10.
You'd have to be riding around in a 1957 chevy with the windows rolled down, in the summer of 1974 with a girl named Barbara Woodard who finally agreed to a date....
