    Have you ever been an instructor? Just seems so natural and effortless

      Thank you! I used to be a phys Ed teacher. Not sure there’s a correlation. 😆 but sometimes I do get mad and tell my Jeep to take a lap! it never listens. Haha!

    Glad your channel exists. Just picked up a 47 CJ2a tonight, looking forward to fixing it up and getting it out on the trail!

    Does this "Magic 9" method work on the F-Head. Obviously adjusting the intake valves from the rocker.

    • @redeyecafegarage7484

      The f-head is a little different. I’ll have to do a separate video for that.

      @@redeyecafegarage7484 I've recently used the "opposing valve" method. Doing the intake and exhaust valves separately. I was just curious if there was another potentially faster way.

    Am I insane but can you just count up from the number 1 valve then down from the number 8 valve?
    If the number 3 valve is up, just count down 3 from the number 8 valve?

    • @redeyecafegarage7484

      There are many different ways you can do this. This way makes the it fool proof. So… for most people this is the safe way to do it. You will find that if you take short cuts you will end up adjusting valves that are still touching the cam and you’ll be running like crap in no time. But to each his own haha!

    Hi Seth, Great video, thanks very much. Quick question regarding the tappet clearance. You mentioned 0.014" for the L134. But I'm checking the Service Manual and it's calling for 0.016" (in Section D, page 55) instead. Am I reading this wrong? Or is 14-16 thousands all within tolerance? Best regards, Dan

    • @redeyecafegarage7484

      Some heads will list the specifications. All will be somewhere between 014-016. The factory services manual calls for .014 I have found .016 often leads to a noisy ticking engine. I always do .014

    • @DanfromJersey

      @@redeyecafegarage7484 Got it thanks. Will go with 0.014, my CJ2A already makes enough noise as it is. =) Thanks again!

    On my L134 cylinder 4 is topping out at a compression of 75 psi, while cylinders 1-3 are all consistent at 90-100. Is this indicative of a tight valve? Spark plugs looked good and as far as I can tell there’s no coolant in the oil or anything that would suggest to be that the head gasket has failed

    • @redeyecafegarage7484

      Adjust the valves and re-check the compression. If the valves are adjusted properly and one cylinder has low compression it could be the valve surfaces are not sealing properly or there’s a problem with the rings.

    Dumb question, is the oil drained?

    • @redeyecafegarage7484

      You do not have to drain the oil for this. There will be a little oil in the lifter valley but it won’t cause any problems.

    Wait....4 from 9 isnt 6, 4 from 9 is 5. Your first example is #5 therefore you should be counting the last valve to the right as #8, not #9. 9 is an imaginary valve in this equation.
