As I approach the end of the Capablanca Saga playlist, I wanted to thank you for putting together such a wonderful chess narrative, highlighting and explaining decisive moments. And I'd like to put in a #suggestion not for just a single game but for a similar analysis of the 1927 match between Capablanca and Alekhine, another legendary and hard-fought battle!
I want to watch the Alekhine Saga. Want to see your take of Fischer's opinion of Alekhine: "He played gigantic conceptions, full of outrageous and unprecedented ideas"
Same, it's technically not a lead, and the open position could possibly help the rooks though a bishop pair is difficult to attack against. It's reasonable to accept a draw but it seems to me like it is lacking a bit of daring.
Curiously, I just ran the position through the engine. The higher the depth of the engine, the lower the advantage given to white. So much that it seemed to stop at +0.1/0.2. I would play it out on both sides to understand what's happening.
I think Lasker's position here at the end is strong enough to warrant further play. He needs a win to get back in the match, being down 3 points, and what's the chance that he's going to get a significantly better chance than this in the next game with the black pieces? Here he has 2 rooks and Capablanca has no rooks. He is up a pawn and has a better pawn structure. I don't know but to me it seems that Lasker had already resigned the overall match before it even began, giving up his title prior to the match too. After being world champion for what - 20+ years back in those days I guess he was just ready to pass the baton. I don't think his heart was fully in these games which is unfortunate.
I'm back to my favourite chess channel after joining chess24 and playing a 300 plus 15 minute game binge and some rapid games. I realise how I have improved the mid and end games by watching agad's videos on Capablanca and Carsen's techniques. I'm still relatively poor at openings and I'm joining a local chess club for face to face and the camaraderie of chess. I'm not so impressed with online cheats, although in minority, tend to spoil the online experience. One thing I realise is how poor I am at rapid chess formats but I may improve with time but I'm a bit old at 66 to expect to be anywhere near sub 40 year old players. I see how the Australian chess scene is for F to F tournaments. The club president is very friendly. I seem to be around 1750 rating from assessments but I'll soon find out. In any case the main point is to enjoy playing and keeping the brain active to help stave off dementia which runs in the family. So far I have a great memory for technical trivia but difficulty memorizing openings by name. I just kind of play by intuition using common sense and logic. I don't fall for cheap traps that many sub 1600 players try. agad, Suren, Naka and Magnus are excellent role models with great live explanations. I'll donate more to agad as he deserves reward for the effort he puts into his videos and commentary. I just had life saving surgery by a chess player from agad's area. He promised me a game but I never got to play him before discharge. Bob Moore
So @3:30 (Turn 19) it is mentioned that Lasker is up a pawn but has the bishop pair. I'm not sure what the correct way of stating the position is the best quick summarize however as although Lasker is up 7 pawns to 6 he also has B, R, R, Q against Tal's B, B, N, N, Q. I believe that makes Lasker +2 (without considering board state) in the position? What would be the most concise way of describing the trades? Also please let me know how I can improve my comments. It's actually been about 10 years and I have forgotten formatting as well as being out of the loop for a bit. Thanks!
3:28 I'm barely a 1200 on a good day, but I'd have taken Lasker's position any day! Not just up a pawn, he's also up the total exchange, and Capa has no rooks! I appreciate that at these men's level things are different and position is everything, but I can't imagine most people through FM would consider an extra knight sufficient compensation for bishop-pair vs. rook-pair
Yes, it is bizarre that Agad keeps repeating this. Up a pawn, but also up 2 points, and down a whole piece. The material has great imbalance in power, pieces, and pawns. The reason that the draw was agreed, is that Capablanca easily makes a fortress, and if pieces were traded, there would be insufficient material for him to win.
Hi I’m very intrigued by your analysis and new to your channel. I’ve heard you mention “the engine” when contemplating best moves. What engine do you use if you are able to say? Thanks for the content.
The problem with showing the other games of Capa Blanca in someone else's saga is that you cannot show games in which the other guy, naturally, loses to invincible Capa Blanca!
Mr. Agadmator, I strongly feel as if you should include the capablance v alekhine match, which would seemlessly transition into the alekhine saga. I thought you was gonna end the saga with how capa lost the title. Moreover, top notch stuff as always. However, at some point you should cover the capa v alekhine match.
Your analysis is always interesting and I like the quotes which you use. Don't take any notice of the people at the St Louis Chess Club. You are promoting chess in a fun and accessible way and they should be on your side instead of threatening to take down your TH-cam channel.

0:44 why not knight captures on e4? It looks like Black's winning a pawn
White can regain the pawn and black will lose time and be in danger.
Would have loved to see some possibilities on what they could have done, to result in a draw. Great video no less!!!!
There are some tournaments following this one where Lasker defeated Capablanca according to Wikipedia, could be interesting to see one of them ?
