I was that is why I dont mind using your listing service. It use to take me 3 weeks to list 80 items and thats bc bulk of my time was spent on creating the listings and researching the items. I was moving too slow in that area
Yes for sure, not as long as you mentioned but definitely probably could cut them in half. Probably take a few too many pictures too. But I’ll be changing that starting today.
Yes!! I include measurements and material content in my listings. I have considered stopping because it would literally cut my listing time in half. I don’t think people read it anyway.
@@thriftandrecycle I just photograph the content tag in my pictures. That way when they ask I can tell them reference photos. 🤣 that’s my answer to all ppls questions “reference photos”
Thank you very much. That's the best advice that I've heard because I am that guy who takes too many pictures and writes too long descriptions. No more I have seen the light thanks to you. Thanks again.
I learned the hard way 99% of people asking questions don't end up buying. 99.9% of the time the measurement they are asking for is in the description. So I now just move on with my day. If they want it they will buy.
I needed to hear this! Thank you!!! I sell vintage hardgoods and I’m one of those resellers who take a ton of photos. I’ve always thought that I had to photograph every tiny flaw in order to avoid an INAD. For vintage items, that can add up to a lot of photos! Also, I always thought I had to describe in detail where every scratch or flaw was on the item, in the condition section. That can be a lot of writing too. Then I started noticing some other resellers just stating “there is some wear on this item”! Done! No wonder it takes me so long to do a listing!
I don't mind questions, but 99% of them are ignorant. I have a sheer silk tunic on clearance for $10. Pictures show it's sheer, description says it's sheer. Today's question was, "Does it come with a slip or liner?". I wanted to say, "No, and it doesn't come with matching shoes and a belt either". Instead I just said no.
Besides being a seller I buy a lot too. I never buy if someone doesn’t have measurements in their listings. 🤷♀️. But I get what you’re saying. I just lay a couple measurements tapes across the item and take a photo. It’s pretty quick.
Great tip! I don’t sell clothing but always feel the need to take enough pictures and include thorough descriptions. I will try to stop being perfect. Thank you!
Great Video, I do Measurements usually just pit to pit and Length but I have gotten so many questions about Measurements when they are already in the listing kinda proves they don't read the listing
Man, you are bringing up such a great point about answering eBay messages. I have often pondered this myself. If it's a big ticket item, then I say answer, but ultimately, time is best spent sourcing and listing.. And measurement questions really are the worst; idk why but I really just hate the process of measuring stuff
I dont list measurements but when someone asks for it I pull up my general men's size t shirt chart and give them that measurement. 80% of the time they dont buy anyways or even reply thank u. so it is not worth taking real measurements. give them the general size that almost every shirt is made to.
yup I agree. And by doing that we are basically creating our own job. I don't want reselling to feel like work. I want it to feel more like a hobby that I enjoy and get paid to do. I think starting out being a perfectionist is normal but at some point if you want to grow you have got to think about how do I make more by doing less. It erks me when I hear ppl say they clean and repair items as well. Its not really worth the energy unless they are high dollar sales.
I’ve been paying attention to the photos and measurements your team takes and am backing off some on mine. After 26 years I’m slow to change, but I’m turning the corner!
I answer questions even if it's in the description and even if it's only to say I cant add additional information, or to tell them if looking for a perfect color they'd do better shopping in person. It may be a waste of time, but I consider it helpful for me and good customer service. I may become aware of a weakness in a listing, send a problem buyer away, or clinch the sale. I view my online shops as my storefront and I want my window shoppers to be treated as if they entered a welcoming place where they'd like to look at everything and then buy something. You're probably right about the wasted time, but I feel that just because there are a couple of devices between us, is no reason to pretend someone isn't talking to you! If I had a question about an item online and a seller failed to reply, I'd assume they're not invested in their business and even wonder if perhaps the items not really available and I'd look elsewhere.
You’re lucky. Mine was I need you to tell me what the exact color it is in person FOR EXAMPLE tangerine orange. 😆. Not on the camera picture. Umm, it’s 2024. The camera picture is the exact color.
Totally agree, additional photos and measurements not available upon request. What they are asking for is usually already there anyway. Get the same thing with some of the auto and ag equipment parts we sell. What does this go on? If you don't know you really should not be buying it. 😛
Great advice Casey and I am guilty of writing too long of descriptions as well. Not as long as you talked about but probably a little too long. I’m just about to get into clothes and I’m going to take your advice and just do the basic measurements and shirt descriptions and move on.I’m going from part time since 2002 to full-time as my husband is retiring June 1 a few years earlier ,than we planned due to handicaps from spinal surgeries and we want to make some extra money so we can have a little fun money and emergency money, so this advice will help us both a lot when we list items ! 😁
I agree totally with this video. Maybe EBay buyers would look at item descriptions on their phones if the Description was placed above the Buy It Now and shopping cart buttons.
i usually don't answer stupid/goofy questions. sometimes when i have spare time i experiment and answer some. they almost never buy anything or even acknowledge me answering. if its someone i sold to before than i probably will do it.
Some buyers have 0 tolerance for risk and are so intolerant of typical use that they shouldn't even buy used merchandise. I can always tell by the questions is they fit that profile. You learn to block those buyers.....and that is why I always read the questions. Sometimes I discover I made an error in my listing and a question heads off disaster.
Agree for sure. Only part I do different is that I DO answer every question - even if it's to tell them that I won't be adding the new info they are looking for. Or often I'll just respond with "I'll have to get back to you with that info" ... but I never do. I think it hurts your metrics to leave questions unanswered. Also - I believe that questions and answers back and forth on an item shows ebay there is interest on that item and bumps it up in search. I could be wrong on all of that, but that's the way I go with it.
I hear your point but yet feel it depends on where you are as a seller. I do measurements and photos from many angles as a proactive step to prevent returns. I recently started to seriously sell, have less than 100 items listed (so far, but working on it), and only 100 something reviews. If i get 1 return, I am greatly affected. When I get bigger and am listing several, several items daily, I will do it "Rockstar" style. Thoughts?
Glad it isn’t just me who ignore tire kickers 😂 I take it a step further and block buyers that sound like they are going to be a problem (OCD about item) or send lowball offers
So true Casey! I'm continually frustrated that I provide tons of measurements in each listing and yet I still get returns for fit. I really think people don't even look at all the photos or read anything in the description. Case in point, I will get questions of what the inseam is and yet there is a picture of it in my listing 🤣Whenever I'm asked a question about a measurement approximately only 1 out of 100 on average will complete the sale! I thought we needed to be on top of questions though, does that feed into the eBay algorithm?
Good points! I will do measurements still, especially dealing with plus size women's clothing - they want to be reassured about fit. But I have stopped pulling out items for new measurements when asked and tell them it's already packaged for shipping.
I crosslist to eBay and Mercari, but Poshmark is where I started selling, so it is my primary platform. When cross-listing, the details I add for Posh obviously auto populates to the other platforms. I mention it because I think due to Poshmark’s no return for ‘fit’ policy, it is more common and reasonable to supply measurements for clothing. The amount will depend on the piece, but for t shirts I do 2 max, unless perhaps it’s an uncommon (women’s) cut. Dress shirts -neck size, Jeans -waist,rise,inseam. Photos, just enough to show important or unusual details and to disclose flaws. The descriptions are likely read more on Posh than eBay, because no searching is involved as it’s right there when you click it. And ofc the short 3 day return window which is basically restricted to INAD. It is usually a quick process because I have a plan and try to not hesitate. I also use voice dictation direct to the listing as I am measuring.
One other thing I forgot to mention, my percentage of engaging with potential buyers who turn into actual buyers seems higher than I’ve seen in comments. I find I have more questions on Posh than eBay but it’s also “supposed to be” a “social” platform., lol. Also for me personally the eBay questions tend to be about shipping logistics and not the actual item specifics.
I agree. I write all my descriptions on Poshmark first and then copy to EBay, so most of them are fairly detailed, including measurements. We’re always being told on Posh to describe as if there are no pictures, so that’s what I do.
We don’t I’m sorry :(. To much liability between inbound shipping photography. storage. Outbound shipping. I dont make a ton per item and one broken $80 dish can wipe out an entire shelf of my fees.
Wow! I've only been reselling for about 1 year and this is all true! I feel like you just have me permission to stop being so OCD about listing. And the "customer massage"... Profound!
I'm definitely over doing it with my listings. 5 measurements for shirts & 6 for pants/jeans. I only take 2 photos of the measurements for the jeans & 3 for shirts. In the description box is where I type all the measurements, along with a ton of other information. I probably should cut back so I can get more listed each day and be burnt out after just a handful. 🤔
I think measurements are more worthwhile for poshmark because buyers can't return for fit, so I notice if I accidentally leave out a common measurement like length or width, someone ALWAYS asks for it. So I guess people are more likely to read ot there.
I also noticed this morning that I'm giving repetitive information. So yes, I'm going to ease into fixing listings with my daily delist & reslist. My new listings I will keep the format consistent with the daily delist & relist. Eventually, they will all be uniform and not so overwhelming for buyers to read. Thank you, Casey. I'm just closing in on my first year of reselling and still learning and figuring out what works and what doesn't. 🦋
If buying for my son, it would be important in the bum and thigh area, as he has big thighs from working out. Waist/length measurements aren't enough when buying for him. We generally resort to buying new, since he can try on, and most sellers don't include it. We don't bother to ask.
I do measurements and it does slow things down a lot. Think I'm going to change that. My question is how many pictures do you take of a shirt. Just curious cause I think I take to many as well. Thanks for the video. Its given me something to think about. I appreciate your channel and content!!!
O…M…G did I need to hear this! I’m a stress case. I remove backgrounds after I’ve spent a half-hour photoshopping lint off the original background. Ridiculous.
I Hear Exactly What You Are Saying About Clothing Measurements. However, I Got An INAD Return For A 1/2'" Discrepancy For The Sleeve Length Of A Vintage NFL Sweatshirt That Did Not Have A Shoulder Seam. I Spend WAY TOO MUCH TIME On Measurements To Prevent This From Happening And I Still Had To Accept The Return For The 1/2" Variance. Go Figure!
Exactly. You just made my point for me. That buyer was gonna return it no matter what. You can’t stop that. In the meantime you waste how much time trying to prevent things you can’t prevent. If a buyers gonna return they are gonna do it. So instead spend your time listing and making money and the 1-2 returns that are coming anyways, let them come. You’re tripping over dollars to save Pennie’s.
I do hate when people ask me a questikn and the answer is right there in the description. Many people are too lazy to read and only look at pics and title.
I always hear ebay recommend you answer your messages in a timely manner and it helps boost your items in algorithm..guess we will never know if this is true or now. I try to answer all questions. It's Good customer service. With clothes I don't take pics of the measurements, I just mention them in the description. Only chest and shoulder to bottom hemline
Of course eBay says that. It can only help them and doesn’t cost them valuable time. It’s a myth. I assure you. I know a guy doing $50k a month who never even reads his messages unless it’s a return. Fact. It’s not good customer service btw. Not until they are customers. Tire kickers are customers therefore I’m not providing them customer service. Only charity work at that point
I see what you are saying but for me it is customer service, they may not be a paying customer yet....but if I trea them fairly, be nice, and treat them the way I want to be treated, they may become a customer compared to not even responding to them and ignoring them , they will most likely never be a customer and take their business elsewhere. I have learned and practiced this since I was a teenager working in a family store to now selling online and selling to people at flea markets and antique booths. To me its common courtesy and great customer service goes a long way.
Funny I just bought items on posh and never once looked for measurements! Just any flaws and a brief description My listings on posh have measurements, big descriptions and tags lmao I think I just proved your point to myself 😆
I rarely get any questions so I don't have to spend a ton of time on them. We have enough details in our listings so that questions should be minimal. I am not going to be rude and not answer questions. I hate it when I want to buy something and have a question. I only ask a question when I am serious about purchasing something. Just my take!
I discovered this many years ago when I realized my competitors were moving inventory just as fast or faster than me, but with literally zero description in their listings. Most product details could be looked up on the manufacturer or big box store website, so it was a waste to spend time on details buyer already knows. Big nope on responding to window shoppers or low-ballers as well. Almost 0% conversion to sale rate with that time waster. The time you waste answering those questions that rarely convert to a sale, can be spent listing things that convert to a sale immediately or sourcing more inventory. It's usually only a matter of hours before another customer comes along and buys the item without asking questions.
Thank you, Casey, major eye opener. I was getting so caught up in descriptions that it takes me way too long per item to list. I'm going to change up my way of listing.
I don’t know what the stats are on this but I swear probably 70% of the people that ask me for extra photos or measurements don’t buy the item anyway even if I provide them! I ignore those now.
If you put in the an ebays item description disclosing the flaws or stains and included them in the photos and the buyer reports item not as described or tries to return it claiming they didnt know it had stains will ebay defend you or are you responsible to refund the buyer? being new to the selling game I def. take too long and try to make sure I mention and photograph any little thing considered a flaw for fear of a return. I have buyer pays returns because I dont have extra money for free returns, and am trying to keep my 100% seller rating
I answer all questions because I have to to get sales now . I never did when 78% of the country wasn’t living paycheck to paycheck. Even the TH-cam resellers that haven’t had issues since the lockdowns are making videos about slow sales. Yes, I’m wasting my time with most of them but most of my sales come from people that always message. 🤦♂️
@@RockstarFlipper Thought it was interesting that you started a channel taping people breaking the law when you were probably dropping off your eBay packages at the post office, which is related to this channel. Do you have other TH-cam channels? I hope you have a great day.
I can't stand those ridiculous questions that some buyers ask like strange measurements, almost as if they are purposely wasting your time because they never buy anyways.

I do hate when people ask me a questikn and the answer is right there in the description. Many people are too lazy to read and only look at pics and title.
Always good value to spend the time listening. I measure only because it has resulted in an increase but don’t reply to the piddley crap
Just any flaws and a brief description
My listings on posh have measurements, big descriptions and tags lmao
I think I just proved your point to myself 😆
I rarely get any questions so I don't have to spend a ton of time on them. We have enough details in our listings so that questions should be minimal. I am not going to be rude and not answer questions. I hate it when I want to buy something and have a question. I only ask a question when I am serious about purchasing something. Just my take!
Sadly your the minority on that. I get many questions and everytime I answer them quickly they never buy. MOST question askers aren’t serious
Exactly what we see day after day also
Thank you, Casey, major eye opener. I was getting so caught up in descriptions that it takes me way too long per item to list. I'm going to change up my way of listing.
Excellent advice! Thanks Casey.
I don’t know what the stats are on this but I swear probably 70% of the people that ask me for extra photos or measurements don’t buy the item anyway even if I provide them! I ignore those now.
its very high... waste of time on them
I am guilty of this for sure and I need to tell myself to just chill.
Thank you for that!!
It's a good point.
Those "buyers" who ask such questions never buys anyway. I used to try to answer their questions but over time I realized its not worth my time.
Exactly. I kept track of it for a long time would answer 20-30 questions a month and one sold
Great video. Thank you!
Thank you!
I agree 1,000,000 %. I’ve been doing this for years now. 👍
always great advise!
Thank you!
I had a thrifted ipod that wouldn't sync with 20k songs on it . A customer wanted the play list ! 😂
I recently came across your AngryDriversAttacks TH-cam channel. Looks like you started posting again a few months ago.
Ok so why are you commenting on this channel about that channel? Curious…?
@@RockstarFlipper Thought it was interesting that you started a channel taping people breaking the law when you were probably dropping off your eBay packages at the post office, which is related to this channel. Do you have other TH-cam channels? I hope you have a great day.
Good point.
So, basically, "Don't Sweat the Small Stuff".
Thats the idea
Ohhhhh I like this!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!
Pep talk and a song! thanks!
Do You Think Using An AI To Fill In Your Descriptions Is To Much Waste Of Time Thank You
people the asked all these Q usually don't buy sh*t
Bingo
Great info!
Love your videos
Thank you!!
Makes sense
I can't stand those ridiculous questions that some buyers ask like strange measurements, almost as if they are purposely wasting your time because they never buy anyways.
And that. The trolls who do it for kicks
When buying clothing from a retail store, they don't give you all those different measurements.
That’s a great point. However you can try it on
Raising my hand ✋I'm your too picky customer. I don't know how to stop. LOL
Not even close. I have some that are. Whewww
Well eBay is considering messages response time into a seller’s account. Not answering questions will not be helpful!
You have proof of that? Link please…
It’s a myth. Rumor
@@RockstarFlipper it might be but I see “Usually responds within 24 hours” right under my store logo at the bottom of all my listings.
Why would they add that? I always answer a question, but that’s just me because I sell older items.
You make a very good point about descriptions. I watch myself on that.
Thanks for all the great videos!
If an item sells for 100 on ebay, whats the most you will pay for it to resell on ebay? 70% ?
That's Why I Send All My Clothing To You
i NEVER GET THOSE QUESTIONS!! I do answer the couple that may come thru each year while I am watching tv...never wholes up my listing or shipping.
2 measurements on Shirts
I agree. Focus on sourcing quality inventory and listing it. The rest is minutiae
Good thumbnail my guy
Nope …i don’t answer those dumb questions…esp whwn measurements are there …n my employee use to write a huge book on each of my Listings she did great work but so much time wasted …now as i go through my listing and find these i erase all of that commentary …she could have made so much more money with me getting more than than adding three paragraph to each listing
3 measurements on Pants
List n move
The sleeve length dress shirts only.
Im sorry i take measurements and i answer all ebay messages mecari or Poshmark
I cant ignore people if i am in bed relaxing and doing no work i am not bothered by questions
My items are in my house it takes nothing to check and measure
