I am totally agree with you! That’s happened to me😢 I got 5 motif MOP bracelet which I have spotted at least 2-3 motifs were having issues. They have allowed me to exchange once, however, it happened again! I wear it very carefully without touching water, soap, perfume… etc, the motifs were not shine anymore. I have talked to me SA but he explained oh because of the weather, or humidity, or so on…. They were clearly oxidized 😢 I was so frustrated as it is not CHEAP! I ended up selling it as I don’t want to keep it as I cannot enjoy it anymore 😔
This is absolutely insane, I had no idea others were having the same issues. I am so glad you shared this, thank you. I'm happy you sold it, you have to enjoy your pieces
I love your videos! Usually jewellery reviewers are bland and snobby, but you have a humble and funny quality about you which is relatable! Thank you for these amazing videos
Girl I loved the intro to this video! Hate you are having these issues. I have a 5 motif MOP and haven’t had issues. Fingers toes and eyes crossed that remains! 🌟
I have the exact same “smear” on mine white MOP vintage Alhambra necklace. So heartbreaking. Worn less than 10 times before I realize the “smear” Never gotten it wet, to the shower or even in bed to sleep. I would never buy MOP again, definitely not for this price.
I think you might be wrong about the price of replacing the motif. It is SDD $350 per motif. Usd $250. U need to replace all 10 so its 2500 usd. U know what? Just enjoy what you have.
Okay, so I'll be honest. Three things. First, I don't blame you for not wanting scratched mop motifs. We pay a lot of money for these high-end jewelry pieces and for the prices that we're charged, they should be excellent, quality pieces that last us for years and years to come. Second, I honestly think that if 4 out of the 10 motifs are damaged--and you've only worn the necklace a couple of times--those motifs were probably damaged prior to you even purchasing the necklace. My guess is that you were probably just really excited to get the necklace and you didn't inspect it then at the level you're inspecting it now. And I'm not blaming you for not catching it--because it's not your job to inspect for quality--but that's just my guess. Lastly, I think if you love it--which it sounds like you do--and the price has increased, then you should definitely keep the piece. However, if the damage on those 4 motifs is going to continue to bother you, then I think you should just pay the money to have the motifs replaced. Because, here's the thing, if you don't replace them, then every time you wear the necklace, you're going to think about it and how it's partially damaged. And if that happens, what's the point in even owning it? It costs way too much money to not fully enjoy it.
Maybe you're right and some minor partial damage was already there, but not to this extend. I'm leaning towards a no, because I've always checked for scratches and reflections in my stones. When I bought my very first onyx earrings I discovered scratches on them at home and I it made me paranoid. I looked at this 10 motif under the same light next to the same window after I bought it. Yes, it bothers me, but after seeing all the comments and girls saying it's happened to their mop as well after a few wears, makes me believe that it's somewhat normal for mop to wear in such a way. So very disappointing, but I will wear until it looks way worse before replacing. Thank you for sharing your input
I can really relate to what you are saying, although I haven't purchased one. I feel your necklace could have been a return or they may have placed the rough or slightly damaged pieces near the clasp. I feel the quality of vca is going down. After your comments I don't think I will purchase a MOP bracelet.
My mother of pearl bracelet much worst than yours only wore it few times, 3 out of 5 motifs the centre of the pearl lost the shine, sent in for cleaning by the artisan still unable to fix it. I would never buy another MoP. I may be selling the vintage necklace because Im seeing some wear and tear, so far the ring is still in perfect condition may be it didn’t touch the skin.
Oh wow, that's so terrible, yet also a relief to hear. I truly thought I had the worst mop in mine and that it was extremely rare, even though I sold my grey mop for the exact same reason. Thanks for letting me know
thanks for reading my comment on your video for the 10 motif mop. i see the scratch and i understand why you are upset cause it's expensive and doesn't look pristine.. but it is beautiful.. wear it and enjoy
I would recommend you not to buy high maintenance luxury items if you are going to suffer from wear & tear . I have gold MOP but from a jeweler(not the real one ) & it looks perfect I shower in it every day & it costs a fraction of the price
I decided not to get the grey MOP with your help in reality checks lol There are photos of how the stone could shrink which totally confirmed the decision. Thanks for saving me money!
I recently purchased the MOP vintage pendant and 5 motif bracelet 😢 I didn’t know this sort of thing could happen! Thank you so much for the info! I really love your videos. Do you suggest any other stones for the vintage pendant for everyday wear? or maybe the all gold?
Earrings are more user friendly. I don't touch the stones when using mine, I use a microfiber cloth to put them on and take off, so the stones don't get any lotion/oils or fingerprints on them..
So I have two MOP pieces, one a 5-motif bracelet from 2006 and one a necklace (single motif) that is more recent, but a few years old. I never wore the bracelet to bed, shower, etc. but it is pretty bad, almost unwearable. The motifs have shrunk and the overall piece just looks bad. I have yet to bring it in for repair because I have a hard time stomaching the repair cost. I never wear it. The necklace I do wear but I've just accepted this sad fact about MOP. I am not going to buy any more though. So sorry to hear about yours, although the only saving grace is that it's in the back. I'd just wear it and wait until the damage was worse before replacing the stones. Better to just try to enjoy it more before taking such a huge loss.
In that case, like I said before, it's the inferior quality of MOP. We all assume the we are getting hand picked, best quality MOP for the price we pay.
Ahhh! I can see why you’re upset. I wouldn’t be able to accept the scratches either. I have a MOP vintage Alhambra necklace for a year now and it looks fine….! Sorry to hear the condition of your motifs. The necklace is beautiful though - I love the light pink iridescence under sunlight. ❤ other than the scratches it is an absolute stunning piece. I hope VCA resolves this favourably with you. I am so glad I purchased the chalcedony 5 motif bracelet instead of MOP….! 🩵
When I clean my MOP with a black cleaning cloth that VCA gave men, sometimes a white stain comes on the cloth. What can that be? It does not happen with the onyx.
If you bought it from the boutique, you should take it to them and show what you're experiencing. Film every time it happens with your phone to document. I think they should be able to help, if it is defective, they might need to replace the mop. Mop consists of many layers, so I'm not sure if some of them shed when you rub hard, I can't tell..
Can’t it be that you bought it like that? Maybe they knew about this and sold it anyway… idk. Those look like someone wear them a lot and without any care in the world… maybe customers that tried it on etc. I understand you can’t go there with a lens and inspect every inch but we should really do that. Take our time and do our inspection.
Nope, happened after a couple of wears, it happened a lot to girls in the comments. I inspected it very carefully. If you're new, and don't know, I am paranoid about any scratches, that's why this was devastating to me, and I had to share with everyone.
Oh man… sorry that this happened to you. What a shame, VCA. I was thinking about getting the vintage MOP earrings. You think the same thing will happen?!

i have the same issue i have 10 mop and 10 onyx but i just have my mop for a year and like your i can see the scratches on the mop and the pearls look like fading so i went to my sa and ask if she can help me and they changed it for free maybe u can try to ask yr SA if they can wave the fee since u buy a lot from them but every situation is different just if in case nothing gonna lose if u ask
I'm sorry you had the same experience, happy they helped you with no fee. I hear it a lot in the comments. I am afraid to replace them to get an even worse batch of mop, if that's possible. Maybe in the future I will. Also, this necklace rattles very little, which I like, so I'll just use it a lot more now that I don't care.

OMG, thank you for this video !! I have had issues with my MOP 5 motifs bracelet as well. I have to wipe it for a LONG time every night when I take it off because there is, kind of like a cloud, around the prongs especially. It gets dull so I wipe it but it's hard to do it around the gold. I think it's because my bracelet may be too tight ? I had it shortened because I was scared to bump it against a table of something when I write / am on the computer, so the motifs touch my skin a lot. And I wear it almost everyday, so I wash my hands and sweat sometimes when it's hot. I think I will wear it less now, or maybe it's more a "winter" bracelet ? I have much less issue with my MOP Vintage pendant. I was really disappointed by this, especially as it's my very first piece (I had NEVER spent that much money on myself, EVER !). And I had never heard of it happening to anyone else on TH-cam, so in a way I'm glad it's not just me who have issues, but I'm sad for you. However, I think your necklace is still VERY beautiful. I feel that they have changed the methods of polishing the MOP. The old pieces have way more rainbow colouring than the new pieces. There's not enough nectar in the MOP that's why. I am not that into MOP so it doesn't affect me. All vca pieces now are mass produced, that's why they want to create the illusion that it's hand made and release items slowly for fear that people will know it's mass produced. Believe it or not, I know it's mass produced. A lot of luxury items are mass produced nowadays.
The videos that they show it's when the only piece that is hand made for the concept of the product just like most oil paintings painters draw a concept illustration before making an oil painting.
I didn't know that, I thought they were exclusively hand crafter.. I think older mop didn't have such issues, so maybe they use a different cheaper quality mop nowadays.
