    I love how straight-forward these videos are. No bullshit, just pure informative content. Thank you! Although I'm not a photographer, but a lot of these tips can also apply to filmmaking.

    It's always fun explaining why I'm standing a 100 yds away taking a group pic of my friends. The photos are great though. Dangerous in the mountains!

    my favorite landscape lens is by far my 70-300mm. love the look and it's fantastic how you're able to create new compositions by compressing the prespectives

    I love you guys because you show just how good it is to break the rules! It is so tiresome to hear the same things over and over about how to use a camera and what lens to use in what situation, and what angle and what light and what composition, but that is not what photography is about. Photography is about making art. And art is about breaking the rules, being creative and showing how you see the world.
    Great video, as always.

    I love shooting portraits at 35mm, it gives a feeling like you're right there, and that just can't be replicated with longer lenses. I also like the way it includes the background if I shoot a little bit further away, everything above 50 sorta looks the same besides compression. 35mm is unique. It's honestly underappreciated.

  • @OCUBOX
    @OCUBOX 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    The "rules" are there to give you a start, it came from experience before you picked up a camera. After you go through shooting said subjects with recommended lenses, then the learning begins when you start to experiment and see which lens YOU like to use for certain stuff. I love the 85, and not much the 50mm for example, maybe cause I've not shot much with it...so experiment.

  • @Gnshksvr
    @Gnshksvr 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I did try an 85mm 1.2 lens @f1.2 at a wedding for group photos and the results were breathtaking to say the least. Great advice there, as usual! I'll try the Brenizer method with something like 135mm or more and see how it goes. Cheers!

    Thank you. Thank you! I always feel guilty shooting street with a 50 on a crop (75!). But I like how it looks, gives off a different vibe than most. Or how I like to go wide and down to shoot a "portrait" and make my subject look taller or bigger.
    I can now finally shoot knowing that you guys do it too.

    • @aldo9021
      @aldo9021 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I shoot street with a 50mm on a crop sensor too! I like it better than the the 35mm because I don't have to get right up close and personal with subjects to fill the frame.

    • @juansymontano

    As someone who's shot a tremendous amount of time with the 35mm in wedding and portraiture, im finding myself wanting to go to 50mm as my eyes are getting really great at picking up on distortion. The 50mm lens is more natural to the eye, and much more flattering in my opinion especially if you're trying to fill the frame. The 35 works just fine as long as you aren't putting any body parts closer to the camera or if you're pulling way back from the subject. Close and intimate is cool, but there's much more chance with the 35 that you'll end up with a hand that's distracting in a photo because it happens to look like 3 sizes bigger than it actually is.

    So almost completely unrelated to your video, except it's about lenses, but I have a question. I want to buy a camera kit but my only preference for a camera/lens, is that I need to be able to twist the lens with my hand when using manual focus. Do all lenses allow you to do that? I know this is a stupid question. I've just not been able to handle any cameras other than point and shoot cheap cameras.
