      Awh, well I’ll tell you since you asked! 3 years ago I met my wife from Latvia, and I had never heard of any of the Baltic states. So once I found these “fake countries”(this is what I used to think) I started with Latvia and it’s history and learning about its people, and slowly grew and started learning about Lithuania. Once I learned all I wanted to learn from both countries, I started looking into Estonia and fell in love with all these Baltic states due to their big and beautiful nature. And the people and how patriotic they are made things even more awesome! Being small yet loud a proud countries. I have a special place in my heart for Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania. They are to me the hidden treasure of the world! Sorry for the long message but I hope this answers your question!

    You have said the word ''money'' in Estonian and You said it reminded Spanish words because it is ''raha'' in Estonian. Arvo Pärt is really famous outside of Estonia aswell and has earned many trophies for his music. Metsatöll uses Estonian land and history in their music and even their videos have pictures drawn by an artist that made a very national cartoon ''Suur Tõll'' (which you should react :), we have other cartoons aswell.)

    ...has nobody seriously recommended *vaiko eplik* in the comments lmao - i like *homne päev* (a fancy way of saying 'tomorrow', or like 'the day tomorrow'), *soorebased* ('swamp foxes', or 'mire foxes' or whatever), & *moonaliisa* (mona lisa basically) for example, and *meie linn on linnulaat* ('our city is a bird fair', as *vaiko eplik ja eliit.* this song refers to tartu i think, it mentions aparaaditehas (the widget factory) which used to be an actual factory during the soviet times but is now a culture space thingy. talkin about that, the estonian print and paper museum used to be in the widget factory but is now near it in a different building and the museum also has a museum cat!! the cat's name's johannes gutenberg and i've seen him a couple of times myself when having been to the widget factory.....ok enough rambling lol, the more you know)
    also *chalice* aka *jarek kasar* (hes mostly released music as chalice though) - i saw someone recommend *see ei ole minu kõht* (yes it does mean 'it is not my belly/stomach') and i second that, i also recommend *harald ja matilda* bc it's literally about cats, and *minu inimesed* ('my people') is a rlly epic song, and his earlier stuff is more of a rap/hiphop kinda thing mostly, if y'r into that, *kõik on võimalik* ('everything is possible', this particular song has russian in it too) for example, but i haven't listened to *all* of his stuff tbh so take my words w a grain of salt lol
    + more obscure suggestions - *argo vals* (he makes instrumental stuff, guitars n loopers n all that) and *florian wahl* (not to be confused by the german politician !!! idk how much stuff on his is on youtube but there's always bandcamp), can give suggestions for them if you wish
    + if you want something silly, then search for *fotosünteesi lauluke* on yt, it's about photosynthesis hahah
    .....but personally i listen to music from russia a bit more (mostly electronic stuff) because of my current main favourite music artist being from there hahahaha, i guess im one of the oddball estonians whose music taste is most influenced by the near east rn

    • @sneekiblin
      @sneekiblin 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      aaand i don't want to stretch my comment too long so i'll just reply with another thing i happen to have in my likes: *jaan rääts - marginaalid, from 1981* th-cam.com/video/zUbSyrfIZ_0/w-d-xo.html
      it's got two halves, one half is piano music, the other half electronic. i only know of it bc of music (or mostly kinda music history rather) lessons in my high school heh

    • @BrianVelez
      @BrianVelez  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Holy crap! Thank you for the information. I now want to meet the cat you speak of in the widget museum! But yeah, you did name artist no one else even dare to name! I appreciate you taking so much time to share such awesome history, and hey! I am a odd ball too. It’s extremely difficult for me to make friends due to my odd taste in things and views. It’s always awesome though to have a different point of view or interest :)

      "Mina Ka" is f*cking awful! Mostly cause the lyrics are just plain gross. And I'm not talking about your avage curse words, which are okay in a rap song. But it's just disgusting.... but somehow they like it. But since you can't understand the lyrics, I quess you'll like it....

    How cool. I get hooked on this type of vid, because I hear so much amazing music I would otherwise never know. I've travelled a fair bit. Probably why I dig people like yourself who go on an adventure simply learning a completely foreign language, like Estonian! The folk track is definitely going on my 'Driving' mix set. For your edification and enlightenment, btw, "folk" is pronounced "foke", as in 'Coke'. The *l* is silent. It's the Old Norse origins (I believe) of English. And, purely for you health, don't ever say "Mozart" that way, especially in earshot of any Austrian or German! If it helps, it is pronounced "More- tsart'. But without sounding the *r*. The 'z' has a 'ts' sound in German. Hope this helps! Keep coming with your interesting topics. Love them.

    Hi, great video!
    One song I'd like to recommend is "Teisel pool vett" by Urmas Alender. He is/was sometimes called the 'Freddie Mercury of Estonia', by the voice he had. And this is a beautiful and strangely sad song: it's lyrics go something as "you are calling me, on the other side of water... and there is no lifeboat on sight" (or something like this) and ends with "kuni pimedaks läheb maailm" ("until the world goes dark": kuni (until) pimedaks (dark/-ens) läheb (goes) maailm (the world)).
    The thing is that the singer died and was on board when m/s Estonia sank. I mean, in this sense, this is the saddest and creepiest song ever, also beautiful and in my view has a certain mystery to it. The title "Teisel pool vett" means "On the other side of water": teisel (other) pool (side) vett (of water). Although I don't think the singer was the author of the words, but still, weird stuff.
    Take care, Brian, and keep up the good work!
    greetings from Estonia (Estonia the country, not the ship, obviously:P);)
