Thanks for all the info Patrick. I'm now set-up with an almost identical beer in a box system and living the dream. I used the exact same handpump and thermostat - coupled it to a normal undercounter fridge, with an in-line non-return valve in the beer line. My next move is to mount the whole system on a portable trolley, so I can use it in the garden kitchen in Summer, then indoors in Winter. I'll have to make the whole arrangement as 'sympathetic as possible to get planning permission from 'She Who Must Be Obeyed' of course before it can be brought indoors. Great setup and great video, Pat - as always :) Tip for temperature control; if you store the temp probe for the inkbird in a glass of water inside the fridge it will replicate temperature of the beer better and not be affected as much by ambient temperature changes if opening the fridge door turning the cooling relay on/off unnecessary.
Ive not been in a pub since the lock-down began and i doubt if i will till things start to settle down a bit. But i feel no jealousy in seeing such a nice bloke like you Pat enjoying your self in your own bar drinking back the pints. Good for you mate.
Another great vlog, cheers Pat. Your setup is very similar to mine but I haven't used it yet so the cleaning aspect was particularly useful. I looked at a cooling unit for the pump but, as you say, they're very expensive. So what I've done is made my own, it's just a small cool box full of water with a small pond pump in it. This pumps the water to the hand pump and then it returns to the ice box. The ice box is in the fridge, above the beer box and seems to work well :)
Water is at maximum density at 4° C. So convection may be sufficient if your chilled vessel of water, in the refrigerator, is a few feet above the hand pull. Be sure to insulate the cool convection tubing. The taller the refrigerated vessel is, the better. Terminate the warm return at the top of the vessel and the descending cool water tubing at the base of the vessel.
@@MrPianoKnee Amazon sell small circulation pumps for £10, like yourself I'd thought a small tank in the fridge at the top and insulated lines. I just like my beers cold. I've had way to many warm pints :(
Sounds interesting, luckly with our climate temperature not too much of a problem apart from when we have a great wave like last week.interesting to build a cooler set up though, thanks Pat
Patrick Dickinson Yeah I think it was just something to give me something to do. Like you, I always like to have a project on the go. The idea behind mine (since I don’t have an awesome bar like you) is to carry the whole setup outside and set it up next to the BBQ when we have family over so it may be useful on hot days :)
great subject is beer, ivejust got back into homebrewing after a 20 year gap, the market is is amazing now, ive just dne a 40 pint kit cost 19 quid, came with hops n yeast, simple to do just boiled malt in 6 litres boiling water, topped up wi cold water, left to get to temp, added yeast, then hops 5 days after, left in barrel 4 week , wow its amazing, the kit is a clone of elvis juice ipa, and i have to say im impressed ! maybe that mite be the way to go pat, that way you can have a few beers on the bar,
Hi Russ, yes I,ve heard things have moved on with home brewing, used to do quite a bit years ago, but like anything, need the time to do it properly, too many other things to do at the moment, thanks Pat
Lovely stuff Patrick, was good to see you giving that beer a thorough "testing" at the end there... Congratulations on a great set up and here's to many more years' drinking enjoyment. Keep well!
Great pub you've created in a garden shed. I don't know if you are into homebrewing but I got back into home brewing after a 20 year break (I used to make it in the 80's and 90's with my late father). I find a good way of keeping the beer fresh is to bottle it - it doesn't last more than a few weeks in a keg. Homebrewing has come a long way in the last 20 years; the 2 can kits from 'Woodforde's Brewery in Norfolk and 'St Peter's Brewery in Suffolk make excellent beers - and I'm a northerner from near Rochdale in Greater Manchester. Woodforde's Wherry bitter is great as a homebrew and St Peter's Ruby Re ale also - St Peter's do an IPA kit also - they also sell the large kegs of beer or bottles - but I find for value and better taste the homebrew kits knock the socks off the commercial equivalents.
Thanks Duncan, brewed my own years ago, but with ready availability have been using the 20 litre boxes. May brew on future, as it has moved on like you say, thanks Pat
I love your garden pub! Great to see hand pulled beer being served Northern style, and supped properly! I'm originally from Sheffield and miss the days of supping in Sheffield pubs in the 1980's, so thanks Patrick for bringing back fond Memories!
Hi Pat, your pub looks even better on each episode. What a marvellous little retreat and a brilliant example of adapting to our new situation. Imagine you have had this one before but Pats “Lock Inn” any good? Fascinating stuff, could do with building one of these myself but imagine I could struggle to get clearance if you know what I mean! Never imagined I would be so interested in the plumbing but it’s great! Ps - new favourite word - “Beer Engine” outstanding! two of mans greatest inventions!!
How good is your setup Patrick, you are methodical with all your equipment and rightly so, no wonder your throat made a good recovery! :) I can remember going to a working man's club over at dedar land, the beer went sour the barman nearly got lynched!! I had such a good time. so I understand your perfection with all your good work. Many thanks for your video. stay well, am off for some of my homebrew now, IPA chinook hops, Cheers from Whaley Bridge. :)
Fantastic share - I am fascinated with casked beer...it is an oddity in the US. Thanks much for going through the delivery system and the parts list - extremely helpful. Cheers - time for another one!
Great idea that pat,can feel another extension coming on to my pub save the lads going up the pear tree lol, love the decor as well. Mine is themed old school as well, proper pub!
Just watched this whilst on a nightshift break. You're videos are always a pleasure makes me smile everytime " just one more ". Was talking to the missus and you've set us up on a project. Happy drinking keep smiling and we look forward to seeing your videos out on kinder, followed by a patrick pint.
Hi Pat been watching your videos for over a year. Your garden pub is amazing. Loving the Wards Best Bitter towel 👍. Even got my husband watching now. Cheers!
Fantastic! I could sit in there for hours. Don't worry about the carpet, just tip a pint of beer on it every day to keep it smelling authentic. It's probably been suggested, but to keep all the lines cool it's easy enough to mimic a commercial setup without spending much . All it would take is a tub of glycol/water in the fridge with a small (pond) pump circulating it down pipes that spiral around your beer lines feeding the water jacket on the tap then back up to the fridge. It'd save you having two pints just to get to a cold one, but I suppose that might be a bit counterproductive. I look forward to seeing some more wild camping videos! I was out on Kinder early this week and it wasn't as busy as I feared.
Thanks may set up a cooling system but would only really need in in our UK summer, hope to be back out soon, I had thoughts that everybody else would be out, the car parks and footpaths have been more busy than I have ever seen, all the best Pat
@@patrickdickinson6492 Probably do as much work keeping things from freezing! I used the same controller as yours to keep my homebrew fermenting in the attic. The paths are quite busy in fair weather/weekends but off the main routes on weekdays it's fine. I walked the Edale/Kinder Skyline on Tuesday and probably only saw a dozen or so people over 23 miles.
Another brilliant Video Pat. I think you might have inadvertently just plucked a great name for the pub at the end of your video. With your love of wild camping and beer you could call it "just one moor"
Superb, thanks Pat. I am a home brewer but always looking fora ways to diversify between brews. This was very interesting and informative, and has given me some ideas, thank you :-)
Yet another great piece of entertainment from a very down to earth bloke. Nice piece of kit you've produced there Pat. If you fancy a mirror for the back of the bar we have one here (Barnsley) which is surplus to requirement. It measures 65"×31" in a darkwood surround. Just a thought. Keep up the good work.
Patrick, with your canny inspiration we've embarked upon stage one of our own nano pub which we'll be building on Rousay, Orkney. Here we are having our first ever pull using our newly acquired Angram Beer Engine hand pump pulling a Spey Valley brewery Spey's Hardware at Mark of Quality 6.4%
That sound a great project you have embarked on,and I,am sure you will enjoy the fruits of your labour. With the dark winters nights later on you will be all set up with your own hand pulled beer, enjoy it, thanks Pat
Proper northern class, traditional pub, no TV and a pint that lasts two mouthfuls. Alway a pleasure watching Pat and if you get chance give shipyard a try nice blonde with grapefruit undertones. Right up your street.
My tongue was hanging out watching you pull and drink that beautiful pint! Who would have thought months ago you would be making this type of video? Enjoyed it Pat, thanks mate!
Absolutely loved your video and the pub is cracking. Really pleased with the way our Summerset poured. As you said it's not a super hoppy beer, more a smooth quaffing Southern pint! Cheers Pat!
Thank you for your comments, very pleased with the beer, one reason I chose your brewery was to see how long the delivery took, around 48hours so acceptable for the distance, and the fact you can get beer in a box from all over the UK, thanks Pat
Hi Pat been smiling all the way through this one, big smiles!! I think our beer tastes are similar, the one I look for when back home is Summer Lightning (Hopback brewery Salisbury) and also like Hoegarden think it's Dutch. Looking forward to trying moonshine, mind!! That said I think the wise choice is to stay local. Been an explosion of micro breweries over here in the last few years producing IPAs and similar Good luck from Spain!!
Yeah ,better have another. Just to be sure . Y' never know ! Nice to see you've got a good hygiene routine going on , just as in brewing ,it makes the difference between success and failure/disappointment . Also , this is the only examplw I've seen so far of correct social distancing in the "sucker" so far ! the wire for my thermostat is routed thru' the silicone seal on the door , not obtrusive ,but as the fridge is also my fermentation chamber ,it has the probe in a thermowell in either the fermenting vessel ,and when finished , a thermowell in the keg/pressure barrel . All controlled by a home-built unit based on an STC100 controller. Keg is no longer a dirty 4-letter word ! Works O.K. for the hoppy stuff we both like. Also , I did a ESB bitter , turned out REALLY good, can't seem to find a quality bitter like you used to get that suits me . It worked great with just a bit of blanket pressure to keep theair out. By crikey , it was good. Like Sam Smith's on steroids. Brewday's looming again ,and there's always packs of Citra hops in my freezer , so guess wot's on next / I'll have to try and bottle some for ya.But it will have to be swigged frsh , mind ! Great vlog. Again. Nice to see a fellow happy at his work. Cheers ! Nigel H. and Helen.
Hi Nigel and Helen, hoping your both well great to hear from you. Used do a bit of brewing but find it easy to buy, but, the brewing process is still a attractive option, fine tuning your own brew. I like the blonde's, with a hoppy taste, nice to be able to find tune your own brew. Still a few bits to add to the pub, but enjoying it and of course always a few beer to try, all the best Pat

When I see you Patrick, I see a skilled, and dexterous man. I will make one small suggestion if it is fine with you Pat that should make you public house more comfortable. Since this is now summer, air vents and a controlled extra fan arrangement might be beneficial, and it doesn’t need to be elaborate as I’m sure it will get very hot and humid in there since there are no windows: and a regulated under seat heating system for the fall and winter months ...just a thought my friend. I have similar systems inside my workshop, and I’m glad I installed them ...tinkering with vintage valve electronics equipment can certainly generate a fair amount of heat at this time of year, and not quite enough heat in winter LOL. Yes my friend, an unusual, as well as a very fascinating project ...I love it! Best regards, Phil.
Hi Phil, yes a very good idea, the other week when it was very warm the temperature reached 35 C far too hot, a fan and vent would of helped, but now the fridge does,nt even have to cool the beer, it's at a nice 12C as is the general temperature. Hope your enjoying yourself with your vintage radios, always good to enjoy your hobby, thanks Pat

Thanks and kind words, yes the channel has moved on, I do have alot of interests, beer being involved in most of them, thanks Pat
You drink far to slow 😂
Great setup and great video, Pat - as always :) Tip for temperature control; if you store the temp probe for the inkbird in a glass of water inside the fridge it will replicate temperature of the beer better and not be affected as much by ambient temperature changes if opening the fridge door turning the cooling relay on/off unnecessary.
Ive not been in a pub since the lock-down began and i doubt if i will till things start to settle down a bit. But i feel no jealousy in seeing such a nice bloke like you Pat enjoying your self in your own bar drinking back the pints. Good for you mate.
That first pint made my mouth water. What a fantastic man cave you have built.
Thank you kindly
Because of you Pat, I am Building my very own pub with my dad. Thanks 👍 by the way, Big fan!
Thanks that,s great, I,am sure you will enjoy the fruits of your labour, thanks Pat
Keep well!
Thanks Greg, got to keep testing, just to check it's OK, morning, noon and night, haha, all the best Pat
You inspired me to create my own bar and get a pump. What a guy you have given me all the tips to get my perfect pint. Cheers pal 👍
Great to hear!,,,,,cheers Pat
Love the way you show and say everything in details. Thank you!
My pleasure Kirill, always nice to chat to people with similar interests....... thanks Pat 😊
Hi Nick, I remember the Sheffield pubs in the 70,s 80, great times and great memories, all the best Pat
Beer Engine....one of many greatest inventions, thanks Pat
"Just one more" you sir are a legend. Really enjoy watching all your vids. I'm just over hill in Huddersfield so cheers to the northern pint 🍻👍🏻
I really appreciate the setup walkthrough. Very interesting and informative.
From dedar land to Whaley Bridge, we have one thing in common the love of a nice pint, all the best Pat
Thanks 👍....yes best way to go like the old pubs used to be, thanks Pat
Just watched this whilst on a nightshift break. You're videos are always a pleasure makes me smile everytime " just one more ". Was talking to the missus and you've set us up on a project. Happy drinking keep smiling and we look forward to seeing your videos out on kinder, followed by a patrick pint.
Thanks Steve
Hi Pat been watching your videos for over a year. Your garden pub is amazing. Loving the Wards Best Bitter towel 👍. Even got my husband watching now. Cheers!
Thanks for sharing this moment in your cosy little pub. Cheers :)
My pleasure 😊....will be back in there soon...... thanks Pat 😁
Great follow up to part 1 another video gem, they always leave a feelgood factor after watching. Thanks for all your efforts Pat you are a star.
Love your work Pat but these videos of you in your little pub are my favourites. It is looking fantastic. All the best mate. Good health.
Thanks Dan, another wildcamping video out later tonight, thanks Pat
Another brilliant Video Pat. I think you might have inadvertently just plucked a great name for the pub at the end of your video. With your love of wild camping and beer you could call it "just one moor"
Goes very well that, two of my love's in three words, thanks Pat
The nicest man on TH-cam, would love to have a pint with you Pat. Many thanks for all your videos, Paul
Bloody marvellous......im sitting here in Australia....feeling thirsty. Watching you. I can almost taste it. Love your pub mate. Well done....
Thanks Richard
Superb, thanks Pat. I am a home brewer but always looking fora ways to diversify between brews. This was very interesting and informative, and has given me some ideas, thank you :-)
Hi and glad you enjoyed it, you can always it your homebrew into your own bags, seems to keep well in the fridge, thanks Pat
@@patrickdickinson6492 That's a good idea, I could have my own cask ale style beers on Draught.
My Mrs said get a shed built for my motorbike. So I did its now a bar aswell lol .Thanks to seeing your videos cheers from another Sheffield bloke 👍
No better place, I spend more time in the shed pub than the house, all the best Pat
Thanks Andrew kind offer there, not too sure what I' ll do with the bar at moment, but thanks, all the best Pat
Thanks David, sounds very nice, thanks Pat
My tongue was hanging out watching you pull and drink that beautiful pint! Who would have thought months ago you would be making this type of video? Enjoyed it Pat, thanks mate!
I like to vary my content as you can see, also like beer, as you can see, haha.... thanks Pat
Been an explosion of micro breweries over here in the last few years producing IPAs and similar
Good luck from Spain!!
Yes David, so many micro pubs setting up at the moment, which is a good thing I like a bit of variety and the great choice of real ales....thanks Pat
Brillliant Pat and soo many catchphrases for your T-Shirt Merch lol "Better pull another"..."That goes Down Well".."Thats So Smooth".."Hi There" Love it Pat. Happy Christmas
Funny how the little catchwords develop, and then stick with you, all the best Pat
Great video again Patrick. 58 seconds that first pint, and a great description to boot. Cheers.
How to survive the lock down?. You smashed it!!!. "Just one more", 4 pints later that was funny. Can I suggest, for a name, The Megatron. That was the video that made me thirsty, and, if it doesn't go viral....it should. Take care
Thanks David
Im shortly embarking on my own "garden room" build and now giving very serious thought to a small corner with beer pump.... Im salivating now just thinking about a nice cool hand pulled pint when I get in from work of an evening....
Watching this same day (Wednesday) in New Zealand, but we're 12 hours ahead! We're loving everything you post on TH-cam, Pat. Wild camping... exploration... beer!!!
Thanks Andereeon, glad you are enjoying them, cheers Pat
Hi from South Africa. I love your pub and your enthusiasm. As a hobbyist home brewer I would love to have my own little pub to enjoy my beers. My personal favorite brew is still a good IPA.
Love the IPA,s myself Rhoderic
Imagine sitting with Patrick chatting about hiking, camping, woodworking and having a pint or two. Since I'm 6,000km away it won't be happening anytime soon. Thanks for the video Pat.
A very long away Penny, but thanks for the kind thoughts, Pat
I kid you not Sir Pat, This video and all your videos are top class and very informative. I could never keep up with the way you down those pints with ease. I think the pubs name could be SIR PATRICKS BEER PLACE. Take care out there. Bless you.
Thanks for that, I will be out wild camping soon, all the best Pat
Bit late commenting Patrick - just found your videos while looking for 'bag in a box' info. Just got my own beer engine - and have a pub shed (smaller than yours) up the garden and home brewery in the garage. Thanks for the superb video - really enjoyed it. Glyn (from Southampton - but originally from Rotherham :)
Nice to hear from you Glyn, you have just probably built the best thing you could ever build, hope you have some great times there, all the best Pat 👍
@@patrickdickinson6492 Thanks Pat - so true - haven't done any blogs of my pub shed for quite a while but here's a link to an earlier one - just gives you a glimpse of my micro pub shed effort ..... realaleadventures.blogspot.com/2015/09/i-cant-believe-weve-been-in-here-for.html
Cracking stuff, thanks for brightening my evening Pat! Pedigree ... THE drink of my student days in Derby 👍
Glad to bring back a few memories Garry, all the best Pat
There's one thing Pat and thats it aint far to walk home ! There's a cracking Porter your wife might like called Titanic Plum Porter brewed I think in Stone, Staffordshire... A superb winter warmer ! Love your videos mate and love your pub.!
Hi Martin yes one her favourites, Titanic Plum Porter, thanks Pat
I don't even drink beer, but you sure made me thirsty Pat! Well done on a productive lock-down.
Thanks, a enjoyable way to spend lockdown, thanks Pat
My new favourite TH-cam channel! Cheers from Canada.
Thankyou for your informative video and described clearly. As now setting up my own home bar.
Glad it was of use, amazing when you can have your own hand pulled beer....... thanks Pat
When it's a dark and rainy day you can rely on Patrick to release a video and brighten things up.
Nice of you to say, thanks Pat
Pat, you have just answered everything I needed to know ! Cheers mate !
I have,e always been a pathetic beer drinker but you have inspired me to pull my socks up and persevere.
Oh Pat, why must you make me so thirsty for pints!! What a great set up you have made yourself, let me know when your open for a bit of company and a few pulls of beer!! Love the video as always. Thank you for sharing Pat! Your an ace mate..
Thanks Paul enjoyed building it all through lockdown, and learnt a lot about beer, thanks Pat
Just one more! Love it 👍
I,LL have that on my gravestone, haha.... thanks Pat
Thank you Patrick, that was very instructive.
Your very welcome Larry
As ever, absolute entertainment ! Just being a namby-pamby Southerner, may I recommend Dark Star ‘Hop Head’ 😎. All the best and keep the coming .
Thanks Pat, sounds a interesting ale, and I bet a decent strength, thanks Pat
Another great video in your Pub Pat. You make swift work of 4 pints.....!! Legend.
Love the way you drink your first pint, it’s exactly how I have done it all my life the first is always the best👍👍🍻🍻🍺🍺
Yeah first one always goes straight down.... thanks Pat
Well impressed with your set up Patrick, a lot of hard work gone into your project. Well done.

It’s looking great. I’m jealous. I love the bar towel on the wall.
Thanks Dean, good fun collecting all the little bit, thanks Pat
Has an home brewer I often thought of doing this in my own garage. Great content.
Hi Steven, yes it should work fine with your homebrew, perfect in fact, thanks Pat

Brilliant Pat. I’m just in the process of setting up my ‘home pub’. Got my beer engine ready, thanks for the tips regarding cooling & the non return valve. Got my Inkbird on order. Cheers 🍻 🍻🍻🍻
