For me, keeping in mind that they are most likely happier where they are now than here and that they probably don't understand why we're feeling sorry since they are relieved, helped me a lot. It's hard, I know and you should take your time to heal. It's hard to believe that you will ever feel better but you will,it's true trust me. Saw Edward Sharpe live the same night that my school rang my mum up to arrange a meeting because I'd accidentally told my school counsellor I'd been being sexually abused for the past year by a 70 year old man my mum really trusted. Refused to tell my mum what it was about because I preferred her to think I'd done something wrong at school and it was the worst night of my life in that way, but because it was the same night I saw Edward Sharpe it couldn't be the worst night, and he sang this song and I knew every word it just became a song I'd listen to all the time and think even the worst nights can have something good and you take the good even if the bad in that moment makes you wanna give everything up, you live for that good in the same moment and you just put it out your head and you carry on. This song just made me remember that night and I wanted to get this off my chest

Going through the same thing right now, but I'm learning to have respect for myself more. It's hard to fight these emotions, but I've gone through enough bullshit to know what's good for me and what's not. Haven’t seen my son since this pandemic started. His mother and I aren’t on good terms. Went through alcohol and drug abuse and almost lost myself. I’m sober now and run my own lawn care business. I’m taking her to court to see my boys face again and I really hope her and I can coparent and do what’s right for our son. I’m no where near perfect and I blame myself for not being in his life but I’m not a bad person and this song hit home. I hope anyone reading this can relate and I hope you find your peace because it is out there but it starts with YOU.
