There is a need for a plugin that does the opposite and reduces or "smooths" distortion. This can be used to fix sibilance by precise selection rather than letting some plugin loose on all of them, or to remove excess distortion. I've been using the simple Smooth/Enhance process in Sound Forge for decades but I would like to have a tool like that in other wav editors via VST. I've restored and remastered over 14,000 songs and the Smooth/Enhance process in Sound Forge is by far the most common edit I make when dealing with artifacts. The smoother can reduce a click or tock without completely removing it and creating a dead spot, it just pushes is down in the mix so it doesn't compete with the rest of the song. This results in a much more musical and "deep fake" edit.

@@DevanshRastogi EQ doesn’t do that. Smoothing is a unique removal of distortion by an adjustable amount. Sound Forge is the only place I’ve found it.

Hey Sage Audio, can you pleaaaase make an in-depth video wher eyou talk about values for a great pre-master? Peak, RMS, LUFS.. What to keep in mind before we send our mix to the mastering engineer.. What mistakes to avoid along the way, during the mixing process, to make sure we don't forget about those values..

One more tip use a EQ in instruments like pads and try turning off the instrument see if by turning off the instruments if it is making vocals more clearer then it means there is competing frequency in that vocal and instrument use EQ to reduce the effect do this for all instruments and I guarantee the mix will sound more clearer

Exciters are really useful in restoration work. You can fix tape dropouts, dullness from where an old analog compressor was hit a little hard, or to restore sheen to the highs after noise reduction is used. Cymbal crashes and hi-hat that didn't record well on analog tape can be restored or emphasized without causing too much distortion in other elements of the mix. In some cases I've done this by precise selection if there is only a few that don't sound right or maybe I want just one crash to stand out in the mix to create a perceived dynamics.
