Holmes County Ohio has the largest concentration of Amish in any county in the USA. I visit often as I am a couple of hours away. I loved this pie and got the recipe from an older Amish lady who knew I visited her bakery often. She never cooled the filling. She doubled the crumbs & put crumbs on bottom, one third of filling, a crumb layer, a pudding layer and ended with a heavy crumb layer on top. She piled that shell high with ingredients mounding it on top. Adding whipped cream is optional but I do not--I like the taste of peanut butter. You did a good job of explaining it! I prefer this pie at room temp, enhances the taste. I like Amish Shoo Fly Pie even better.
My grandfather lived there and we would have visit him my Mom would get me a Amish peanut butter pie everytime. Then my husband got me one bout 5 years ago.. I live about 2 hours away as well...
We have wonderful friends who are Amish. She makes hers kinda the way you have. She bakes her pie crust, Makes her pudding (cooked on stove) Makes her peanut butter crumble. 1st- she puts crumble in pie shell. 2. 1/2 of Pudding. 3. Peanut butter Crumble. 4. Pudding 5. Crumble 6. Whipped topping (plain) 7. Crumble on top. That's it!
Hi from Indiana (Amish country). A suggestion on your pie making... if your pie filling isn't as set and if you can pour it into your crust (on top of the peanut butter crumbles), it will flavor the pie throughout. A lady that has passed, was famous for this pie! And she also topped her pie with the crumbles. 😘
I live in Delaware and we are frequent visitors to the Amish community in Lancaster,PA. When we have eaten peanut butter pie there they make the regular crust like you did, then they put a layer of peanut butter spread on the crust, then the custard like your recipe, then the whipped cream. It is awesome!
Our Amish friends from Ronks PA. outside of Lancaster run a food shop in the flea market in Delaware ! Go see them some time ! They sell the best chicken and a thing called a chicken crochet... that is really good ! They are Jake and Rebecca Blank !
I also love Lancaster Pa go every other year but due to this years inflation we won’t be going to Lancaster Pa so it is sad 😢 love kitchen kettle in Intercourse the Stoffers market in intercourse and love going to Deinners for dinner and Shady Maple restaurant is by far the best
I live in Missouri and I would like to thank you for your videos and I think you and your husband are so sweet you are very blessed and I will keep on watching your videos God bless and take care of you both love you
I've grown up making the peanut butter pie you were talking about at the beginning. My husband who loves peanut butter actually had me make one for his birthday one year. I've also made the Amish recipe and he loved it as well. They're both delicious but I like this one you're making better. I wish I would've known about the microwave trick before, so thank you for that!
That pie looks so good.. I love about anything Amish also... My husband would like this.. He loves peanut butter like your husband. He eats a big 48 OZ jar a week lol.. Straight out the jar with a spoon...
We have quite a bit of Amish close by. We have an incredible Amish bakery, side dishes and meats & soups in our Farmers Market 15 minutes away. I can't wait to try this! Thank you
Leslie, I've made that pie since the 70s. Got the recipe from my Pennsylvania Dutch grandmother. My personal touch was to add a big ol' dollop (maybe a tablespoon and a half) of peanut butter into the custard while it is hot. The peanut butter will melt and can be stirred in throughout.
Leslie that looks so good,I will have to try this recipe for peanut butter pie, Thank you so much for sharing it with us..Thank you for the taste testing Bryant.. hugs to you both
We always had this at a truck stop I used to work at.. it is sooo yummy. It's a super good pie reguardless, but I add some peanut butter to the custard part myself. It makes it even better. Just whisk in about a half cup of peanut butter to the custard part. THATS a peanut butter pie!
This is to funny !! Bryant and his Peanut Butter !!! And I am leaving in the morning for Lancaster Pa. Amish Country and we have true Amish friends that use the horse and buggy and they are amazing people and great cooks ! Their pastries are to die for !!
Alan Levine We eat most the meals we eat out up here at Deinners Resturant right next to the Big Yellow windmill ! Great buffet .. breakfast is great and they great fried chicken at lunch and dinner ! And on the menu is a Hot Roast Beff late that is amazing!
Will for sure try this. Leslie I am so happy for you and Bryant and the success in your life. Most of all how you put God first in your life. Each of you are a blessing .
Oh! Thanks for making this. It reminds me of my Amish moms peanut butter pie. I too am fascinated with the Amish. I have precious dear Amish friends I just treasure. Lou and I will be going to Lancaster next week. Yes! They have so many things right~this world has missed. ❤️ luv ya.
I have never tried it please send me the recipe I would love to try I would love to try hope you all are doing well Bryant and I hope to get to Pennsylvania and Ohio one of these days to visit the Amish area
Yum!!! I lived in Sarasota, Fl. where there is a " special community" with Amish & Mennonite. Their peanut butter pies sold more than anything. They didn't have crumbs though, the peanut butter was mixed in with the meringue. Yes, their food is DELEICIOUS!!! Love & Blessings from Fl.
Looks very delicious!! The Amish have very delicious food. I have two Amish cookbooks. I have alot of respect for Amish and I can relate to their way of life because, my Grandparents on my Mom's side lived very close the Amish way of life. My Dad's Girlfriend made a Peanut Butter Pie when her Brother Gary was in from Texas one time. Her pie was delicious but, different then this pie.
I have a fascination with the Amish as well. I am so interested in their way of life; cooking, baking, quilting, and candle making. As a matter of fact visiting their community is on my bucket list. I would love to see if they have a bed and breakfast Inn that is true to the Amish way of life.
We have a large Mennonite settlement in a neighboring town and there are many things one can buy. Tons of produce jams jellies pickled everything and things like hand made rugs homemade soaps the list goes on. They have a store that sells a lot but many households specialize in a variety of products to other. Some of the best farmed corn okra many different bean varieties there’s no limit. They will also give you great tips and recipes too
Yummy! I used to make a pie very much like this one...put the peanut butter crumbs down on the bottom, used a meringue and topped more crumbs on the top before I baked the meringue....I will have to try the custard in the microwave! Thanks love your show!!! Love you both and blessings to you!
I with you Leslie, I don't care for peanut butter pie just for the same reason . I think I will give it a try hope this makes the cookbook. Thanks for sharing and God Bless 🙏🏻❤
Awesome video, Ms Leslie! This looks so delicious! I’m surprised I never had it, since my beloved grandfather was Pennsylvania Dutch and loved all their food. But maybe Pennsylvania Dutch is a little different than the Amish in their recipes? Wow, I want to make this now! Thank you for this recipe! Love you Ms Leslie, God bless you and your beautiful family 🙏❤️
My Mama is 84 and eats peanut butter on a spoon. She has never had a peanut butter sandwich! My hubby (RIP) ate lots of peanut butter...by the spoonful and on a sandwich with apple jelly. He wanted the peanut butter thick on his sandwich!
Here in Ohio and its home to the largest Amish & Mennonite community in the U.S. In and around Holmes County, Ohio. The way I make this Pie and I got this recipe from my Mother In-law. * TIP * Pour the HOT vanilla custard over 1/2 of the Peanut crumbles in the bottom of the baked Pie shell. IT slightly melts the the crumbles and makes it so good, when pie is cooled top with Cool whip or whipped cream and garnish the topping with the remaining peanut crumbles.
This is how my mom made Peanut butter pie, and now I make it with a layer of peanut butter crumbles on bottom, followed by warm custard and meringue and crumbles on top. Delicious!
It was good, next time I might add a little more peanut butter and a little less custard... I had a subscriber to tell me to put a little peanut butter in the custard that seemed to be a great idea too.
Leslie, here is a recipe you can use those egg whites. This is mine Mother-in-law’s recipe: Egg White Cookies 2/3 cup sugar 2 egg whites Beat together until stiff Add a pinch salt 1 teaspoon Vanilla 1 cup nuts. ( opinion) 1 cup chocolate chips Heat oven to 350*, Drop on undressed Aluminum foil Close oven & turn off and leave overnight DO NOT OPEN Your Cookies ready in morning. I use Mini chips, dark chocolate. Great at Christmas! ENJOY!
I live in a county in Indiana that is 50%+ Amish. They sprinkle the crumbs like you did, on the bottom of the pudding and then on top, so you did good!!
Oh Leslie your making one of my favorites pie and my Family s..i dearly love rhe Amish .my granddad used to always take us as as.a child..i have a deep passion for them ..in our lit INDIANA community..we have some coming to live ..its so exciting.j I love how they love there God family n there faith ..would we all live in a changed world if we could do the same..LOVE YOU,LESLIE N BYRANT..KEEP UP THE AMAZING LORD FAMILY N FAITH IN CHRIST!!!🕊🛐🙏💟🕊🤗💯
My Daddy eats peanut butter out of the Jar too!! I like peanut butter desserts but I am not one to just eat a spoon of PB. I have a big birthday coming up in a few months so pie is not on the menu at the moment. Probably fix it this summer and make sure I take my parents a piece.
Thanks leslie love this pie a plan to make for holiday this christmas or thanksgiving so good looking ..a how you know its w pb..look forward to have for thanksgiving
Yummy that look so delicious, I remember making that pudding when I was like 12yrs old I use to make it a lot thank you for the memories and thank you for sharing 👍🏽🤤😋👍🏽
Leslie I enjoyed your video I’m gonna have to try to make that Amish peanut butter pie looks good thank you for the recipe you’re awesome have a wonderful evening love and God bless ♥️♥️♥️🙏🙏🙏👍
I put a generous amount of the peanut butter crumbs on the bottom of the crust. Put your pudding mix over top of the crumbs. Add another layer of peanut butter crumbs on top of the pudding. Add your whipping cream and sprinkle remaining peanut butter crumbs on top.
As a kid who loved to eat raw chocolate chip cookie dough - I had a friend who told me that I should never eat raw flour ANYTIME because it can often contain E.coli or salmonella. I found that hard to believe, so I googled it and sure enough, she was right! Darn! Thought the pie looked delish but it might be scary for people who don't have strong immune systems? Anyway, something to think about. I also have an interest in Mennonite and Amish culture - so I want to direct you to a you tube channel called Montana Haven. It is FASCINATING! They are a really precious family and I just know you will enjoy them, Leslie! Lots of cooking, gardening, raising kids, sharing family time, etc. I should mention that they are NOT old order Amish as their parents (who still look and dress old order) broke away from the group because of some of the old dogma and social rules that were "mostly of man and not of God" but they still keep to much of the wonderful culture of hard work, taking care of each other, taking care of the land, dressing much less conservatively than old order but still modest and bringing up their children in a happy, fun, loving atmosphere, making sure that they are raised to have a personal relationship with Jesus and good solid values and morals. I am neither Mennonite or Amish but I have a new, profound respect for this family. What a different world this would be if more families were like this!
If he wants more peanut butter flavor but not extra powdered sugar, add 1/4 cup peanut butter to pudding. Will give more flavor without being overpowering and without more sugar.
I think the easiest way to separate eggs is to run the whites through your immaculately clean fingers, leaving the yolk for you to dump into your bowl - no danger of piercing the yolk on the side of the shell.
Hey, Leslie 💖. Store bought pie crusts are better than a lot of homemade pie crusts I have had 😂🤣. I have made this pie for many years. I never cooled the pudding. It’s really good with chocolate pudding too! Tammy’s recipe is the only recipe I use now ❤️. It really makes the best coconut cream pie!!! That’s so cool that you have met a new family member 💖💖💖. Oh, but I always put the peanut butter sprinkles on top of the whipped cream 🤣 Ok, sorry, you did put some on top 😀
Hey Leslie! Willard Scott, featured this recipe on his nationwide weather report. The only difference is he used meringue instead of the whipped cream topping. My goodness that was almost 50 years ago. My mom used to make it all the time.
Leslie, I added a scoop spoon full of p.b. To my hot pudding to give a more p.b. Taste. Good stuff. I know how much my husband likes p.b. Too. Try it pretty good. Lov always Lin
I love peanut butter pie, but I cheat I just use 1/2 gallon on vanilla soften ice cream and 1 cup creamy peanut butter, pour in pie shell put it freezer and ohhhh so good.
Leslie how do you make the chocolate pudding 🍮..?? What do you add to it.?? I would appreciate to know. Thanks for the video....I enjoy all your vidoes!
Being not American, I don't understand the "homemade whipped cream" thing. Is not just heavy cream that you whip up. It should not contain anything else. It can be sweetened with a little bit of powdered sugar and maybe flavoured with some vanilla. In Denmark you can buy maybe 1 or to different cans of whipped cream. But since it is so easy to make we whip it ourselves. It takes no time.
Holmes County Ohio has the largest concentration of Amish in any county in the USA. I visit often as I am a couple of hours away. My husband is CRAZY for peanut butter. This would trip his trigger! I love your recipes and your sweet personality.
I have Amish neighbors. We love spending time with them. I have gotten many wonderful cooking and baking tips from her.
I'm like him when it comes to peanut butter. Nothing better than a big spoon of peanut butter. This looks absolutely delicious.
I'll eat a couple spoons of PB when I'm hungry but trying to watch my carb intake.
It's filling & satisfyingly I LOVE PB too! 😋
You guys are real, that’s why I love you so much!
Thank you

Forgot to add that Grandma and I often made it as a merengue pie instead of using whipped cream.
When you lifted that first piece of pie out? I rediscovered my TMJ and practically unhinged my jaw! WOW!!! That piece was killer! 😘
Your Valentine's Day flowers are still looking quite beautiful!!
I stir a couple tablespoons of smooth peanut butter into the pudding after it's made, along with the butter and vanilla. Love your videos.

Is it necessary to use self-rising flour for the pudding?
Leslie I enjoyed your video I’m gonna have to try to make that Amish peanut butter pie looks good thank you for the recipe you’re awesome have a wonderful evening love and God bless ♥️♥️♥️🙏🙏🙏👍
I put a generous amount of the peanut butter crumbs on the bottom of the crust. Put your pudding mix over top of the crumbs. Add another layer of peanut butter crumbs on top of the pudding. Add your whipping cream and sprinkle remaining peanut butter crumbs on top.
I have never had peanut butter pie! But it looks delicious!

Hi Leslie, this looks like another recipe to try. Thanks
Awesome looking! I'm going to try this!!!!
I love a peanut butter pie! Adding this to my list to make!
I will have to try this. I follow a Amish channel on TH-cam called Montana Haven . So different than the tridiagonal community.
I watch them too!
It would be different
So now I can make a peanut butter pie! I love the Amish version.
If he wants more peanut butter flavor but not extra powdered sugar, add 1/4 cup peanut butter to pudding. Will give more flavor without being overpowering and without more sugar.
“I don’t have peanut butter!” 🤣🤣Lol, love it lady❤❤❤ glad you could still make it work. I love me some PB pie!! 😋😍
I have to try this!
I think the easiest way to separate eggs is to run the whites through your immaculately clean fingers, leaving the yolk for you to dump into your bowl - no danger of piercing the yolk on the side of the shell.
This is a must try! Someone posted "name something that goes with peanutbutter but you can't say jelly"..... I said
"A SPOON!"
🤣🤣 that's right
Hey, Leslie 💖.
Phyllis, I JUST watched Tammy's Coconut Cream Pie video before Leslie's video. Watching her make this I was thinking this would make an awesome CCP.
Leslie, I will definitely make this ♥️♥️ my husband is the same way about peanut butter ❣️❣️❣️ love you guys♥️♥️
Hey Leslie! Willard Scott, featured this recipe on his nationwide weather report. The only difference is he used meringue instead of the whipped cream topping. My goodness that was almost 50 years ago. My mom used to make it all the time.

I'm not sure I follow your comment as that is exactly how I made it
I love amish recipes.
How do you start a peanut butter pie video if you don't have peanut butter? some organization is definitely required.. you remind me of my daughter.
The pastor always looks like he enjoys every bite. Lol
He does!!
Put u a tablespoon of p-nut butter in that pudding. Yum. I love a homemade crust.
