- Is this my magnum opus? It sure feels like it! I feel like I've been working on this video forever, so it is such a great feeling to finally share it with you all! I was one of the most prominent PLL theorists on Tumblr back around 2016-17, and it was a lot of fun to revisit my biggest theory. Like I mentioned in one of my community posts, please keep in mind when watching that wanting a character to be bad or evil does not equate to "hating" that character.

Sorry for the blurred section around minute 12! Had to do what I could to get the stricter copyright restrictions removed.
Alison was really hard on the girls especially Aria Hanna Spencer ... Emily not so much cause she liked her but was with Paige Mona and other for some reason for sure. She was mean to the people that hurt her and that's why it would made sense your conclusion on her being AD, There so many secrets like mum dead .. Her dad never ask where has been all this time . Jason Nat club . ect ect..
I will say hands down AD should have been two people Aria Montgomery and Alison Dilaurentis hands down. Emily should have been axed around season four and Mona should have became the final Liar.
Could you do a video on Jenna
Lmao thanks for the explanation i was like wait
I may be a full year late and do apologize for this late comment. But I LOVE, I LOVED your theory and video! Much love from Maui, Hawai’i 🫶🏽🙏🏽🥰😍
it seems clear that Alison was always supposed to be A, but Marlene was so fixated on outsmarting her audience that she didn’t go with the good choice
Definitely
Exactly. She threw away any great foreshadowing for shock factor, which is so unsatisfying as a fan.
They ruined a perfectly good show by trying to outsmart the audience. There were so many plot holes and random stories from nowhere just for the sake of it. It made so much sense for Alison to be A. Charlie was such pandering BS, just trying to cash in on trends.
Yep. Instead she went with shitty choices. There should have been only one A.
@@mydogeatspuke yes! They ruined the show after season 2 in my opinion.
Alison was the ultimate A. She just got away with everything instead. Let's all choose to believe this lol
Bro her doing the a shush with her finger in the dollhouse in the last episode would have literally given me life with the reveal of her secretly being big A
i looowkey wanted emily to be A for a huge plot twist lmao
@@ronald5940 that would have been so much better than spencers twin & it would make just as much sense, which is none
@@groadybroady1459 the actual story is way better then whatever your version is trying to be
In the book series mona was the first A and Alison became A after Mona died in the book series.
I will never forgive them for making A.D Spencer's twin sister, it's like they tried so hard to make the finale so different from all the theories the fans made up. I would have preferred Alison to be A even if it was very obvious, but I would have thought "omg how i didn't notice this before" which is way better than thinking "who is this person that i've never seen before".
Definitely agree with you alison was always meant to be a villain instead Marlene king decided to give a stupid redemption arc and dull her character down which was really lame 🤯😠😡🤬
Exactly!! It was so obvious after a while that when they insisted they “weren’t following the plot of the books” what it meant was “we have no plan for how we intend to build or conclude this story”. The saddest part is the fan theories were the best part of watching while it aired, and there were so many good ones, I’ll never understand how they derailed what started off as lightning in a bottle.
@@Pandurz I agree. Its like they were just marking off options whenever fans would consider them, like "ah damn, can't use that one now, we need something SHOCKING!"
It's almost like none of their team know the definition of "foreshadowing", which is always more satisfying as a fan than shock factor ever will be.
I hated that so much!!! It was so ridiculous and just flat out stupid that it honestly made me made and really ruined a lot of the show for me
I honestly think it was the worst thing they could have come up with
th-cam.com/video/uupMUr_rvzI/w-d-xo.html this theory guessed the right person just not all for the right reasons (but the theory is better than what marlene did with the story)
Marlene thinking it was "too obvious" is dumb. That's like J.K. Rowling saying " you know what Voldemort being the bad guy is too obvious, let's change that " 🙄
@De Nile Or Harry’s secret older brother raised by Bellatrix Lestrange in Azkaban
Tbh with the way how jk is rolling now a days she could do something like that
@@tomlawal7991 This has to be a fanfic somewhere
No one would have complained if the alternative she wrote was better. All she did was mess up the story.
Yeah.. Or maybe Sauron was the good guy all along... 🤔
It makes SO much sense. Ali clearly had fun blackmailing people and using their secrets against them, just like A did. She would often blackmail people for money, which would explain how she covered the cost of the dollhouse, the RV, the lairs etc.
“A” wanted to look like Alison that’s why
It makes sense, but it would not have been a good choice. If Alison was A then there is no element of surprise. Then it was ''Oh yeah, I like to mess with you guys, because I am bored, you know me'' or something.
@@Jongen. its wayyy better than surprises secret british evil twin
The girl was rich. She only blackmailed Byron for money so she can find out who “A” was
This makes me sad because Alison being A makes it feel so incredibly sadistic and evil that it would have blown us all to smithereens, to have someone be THIS much of a gaslighter, THIS much of a narcissist, that she would go to any lengths for her best friends to be forever traumatized by her need to be the most important influence in their lives, even if it means destroying their mental health and feelings of safety forever. It's so incredibly beautiful and moving and deeply, disturbingly painful at the same time.
It would be boring. This supposed to be a mystery novel.
@@ritaevergreen7234this is not narcissism
I think Mona made sense as the first A, but it would’ve made so much more sense for Alison to have stolen the game from Mona instead of Cece
that’s what happened in the books!
@@zealunaI think my original theory was that Mona/Lucas were the ones taunting Alison, and somewhere along those lines and Alison going as Vivian Darkbloom to find out who was being A, she was inspired and decided to become A herself by observing Mona and later taking the game from her. I also thought at some point she made Mona work for her, and made Mona reveal herself as A and get admitted to Radley because there was the scene of Mona saying to someone “I did everything you asked me to” and I thought she was talking to Alison who was in control and at the top of the A team pyramid, and I thought Alison somehow got Mona to work for her using blackmail, and got Mona to take the blame as A to hide her own true identity as A. And then it makes sense later down the line how Alison and Cece were in on everything together
It’s so interesting me how all of Allison’s abuse towards not only the girls but to everyone else in Rosewood is supposed to be erased or ignored just because “she isn’t A”. Like she was legitimately a horrid human being and it always felt wrong that she wasn’t A in the end, simply because the show wanted to redeem her.
Even to Mike Montgomery she's been nothing but unpleasant. Badmouthing him to Hannah after they went to 2nd base cuz he was younger & Aria's brother was so stupid!
Especially when Aria was like: I literally don't mind you hooking up with my brother dude
She was literally a teenager I’m sick of everyone saying “she’s a bad person” like…
@@wes9061 hmmm blackmailing cause literal deaths bullying mona into several mental issues being the reason mona started the A game and bullyinh hannah into an eating disorder ahhhh yes regular teenage fair
@@Willow.the.creative I never said she was a saint as a teenager but she changed and matured and grew up and literally grew up to be the most unproblematic one out of all of them. How do you expect people to grow and learn if you have that attitude.
@@Willow.the.creative and everything you listed everyone (especially mona) did times 100 if alisom is a bad person so is literally everyone else
Alisons character only works as a villain. Shes so much more interesting being a manipulative and evil person and the way they tried to give her a redemption arc when she came back completely ruined her whole character. It completely defeats the point of WHY she used to behave the way she did. For Ali to be A it would have been amazing
The extra sad part is the books were literally greenlit and written knowing it would be a show. Sara Shepherd gave them a good story with twists and reveals that were being led up to. Then the show threw all that out the window in order to outsmart their audience by literally pulling As identity from thin air
season 1 was sorta accurate to the book but then like after the 5th book it started to go different paths 💀
And sadly Sara Shepherd defends EVERY choice because she gets a paycheck out of it. I loved those books and literally jumped when they announced the continuation of the series after the 8th book. BUT yeah this show went from being very promising to being trash where the audience had too much control over things and the actors should have been able to move on because a lot of characters should never have been on as long as they were. Such as Ezra, Toby, and Caleb, and Mona...
in the books ali is a FUCKING MENACE. and the courtney plot line, plus alison’s motive. it would’ve been perfection
This !!!!!!
@@yeezus4452 the only reason i know of is everyone was quick to find out who A was because the people who read the books already knew who A was. so they didn't want more people reading the books to find out who A was to just abandoned the whole show all together. every show thrived on rating and with everyone knowing who A was before the show was even over would mean no more show.
to answer your question it all just amounts to bad writing. They wanted to outsmart their audience and profited from their best actress for the villain reveal to feel justified. However it was horrible. Alison or Aria should’ve been A. Alison for reasons aforementioned in this video and Aria for being the least picked on by A and several other reasons listed on tumblr back in the days.
Even Melissa could’ve been A.
Ikr, I never wanted Aria to be A but it was so annoying how the rest would be going through serious shit and her biggest struggle would be "omg my boyfriend who is also my teacher abusing and grooming me may get caught ohhh noo"
I used to think aria was gonna be A!
YES! I always wanted to be Aria or Alison. And if male it should have been Ezra.
@@stuffwithsoph8264 😂😂that was literally aria’s only issue
YES I've always said aria should've been A but also melissa would've been PERFECT TOO
Alison was ironically such a good character when she was ‘dead’ her character shown through the flashbacks gave really good insight into how complex she is. She was vindictive and extremely intelligent and that’s what I loved about her. But then they completely ruined her afterwards.
She would have made the perfect A.
She had far better romantic chemistry with Emily during the flashbacks as well
But that changed later on when she came back, especially when Emison officially got together
I’ve always thought Uber A should have been either Aria or Ali (or both, a team-up would’ve been amazing too) but instead they decided to go with a random character for a nonsensical twist
See I like the aria idea but when people go on about it then I feel like maybe it should be Ezra, not Aria
@@GlamClan-xe3zi I agree that Ezra should have been on the A Team considering his connection to both Aria and Ali
I would have loved it to be Aria or Wren!
I would have loved it it was Alison just like the books predicted, but then the twist would have been oh wait, she’s had a helper all this time, then boom, Aria would have been her trusty accomplice. Would have been excellent.
While said random character committed the *r word*
I’m rewatching s7 right now and I’m cringing all over again. The “evil twin” trope is so overused. PLL literally had me in a choke hold for years only to end with….this???
I wouldve been okay with it if they gave it more time and not just one episode... Also Alison shouldve been the one with the twin which means Cece shouldve not been her biological sister either. CeCe shouldve been a distraction and then Alison or her twin the real A. Alis twin shouldve hit Bethany Young instead of CeCe thinking its Alison (The twin must hate alison and her friends to make this work). When alison "returns" its not alison but the twin who plays with the girls
Bro I hated it. Most disappointing shit
@zebb wait, but Ali's the evil twin because she forced her sister to act crazy so she could get sent away. Not to mention the Ali killed her own sister
Aria and Alison teaming up to be A together would've been an amazing ending.
I also liked Aria to be A. Like "the moment she returns from Iceland A start to text" narrative and clues here and there. Any character that was with us from the beginning will always make more sense than a random character that was in counted episode or a new one just there for the reveal.
The fact that this video is better than 6+7th season is really sad.
The writing for the last few seasons sucked. Allison was DEFINITELY A but Marlene was soooo focused on the fan theories that she screwed everything up.
I feel like she was more focused on making Emison cannon sas well, since Ali being AD would've ruined that
@@godhathirumalaianandanpill3140 tbh I don’t really understand why people ship it, I mean it’s a pretty toxic ship, and very one-sided, even if Alison was into females, she never really regarded the Liars as equals. I mean even after her supposed “redemption” arc, she still only thought about herself, and jumped back into her old habits every now and then. She was pretty wishy-washy.
It was supposed to be aria but it got leaked
@@godhathirumalaianandanpill3140 To be honest, having sex with Emily to lure her into a false sense of trusting her would've been a really cruel but fairly fitting -A-manoeuvre
Especially since that's one of the things that drove the final wedge between Emily & Paige: Emily not willing to let go of Alison to be with Paige, the person she was obviously actually in love with then
@@hannahlouise9978 and before that it was going to be Alison but they were worried people would read the books for spoilers and stop watching the show
I. Love. This. Yes, yes, yes! I’ve always wanted Alison to be ‘A’, your video made me hate the last 2 reveals even more. Ever since 6x10 aired I always thought Charlotte was lying, since there were so many plot holes that came with that reveal and I didn’t think the writers would make such amateur moves regarding the freaking BIG A REVEAL. If Alison was A however & Charlotte was trying to buy Ali more time most of the plot holes would’ve been explained. You mentioned so many great parallels that I never noticed, bravo! If only the writers weren’t so focused on outsmarting the audience & tried a more “predictable” story/ending this would’ve been perfect. It would’ve been almost as good as the book plot where (spoiler alert), the real Ali is ‘A’. This video NEEDS to blow up, it’s just that good.
Thank you!!
Marleen cared more about twists that no one would guess with online theories than they did with actually making sense and writing a good story. Still love the show and Alison’s character ❤️ (not the redemption though)
Yeah her redemption arc was just so stupid it didn't work
I feel like they could have made Ali be A and have her have this mentality that the way she torments the girls is her way of showing her twisted love for them and that she wants them to adore her forever. She could have been this truly sick villain who loves playing with the liars like they are dolls.
Yes. Marlene really messed things up
Exactly. Ali should’ve been brought back to rosewood after mona’s A reveal. the writers also dragged on the girls senior year for way too many seasons.
@@user-jv9fl4uw4l YES OMG they were in senior year for like centuries
you should express yourself more respectful about her i think
@@Ryan-pg1tw no, she ruined the show
@@tihoivanov seriously... She effed us soooo bad. They need to do redo so much. No reason senior year needed to be 3 bloody seasons
I still think Sasha's weight gain affected her storylines and is why she wasn't A.D or Ubber A. After her weight gain the character stopped being the Ali we know and I think it was because they didn't know how to write a 'mean' plus sized character.
I don’t think she’s really plus size at all but I see what you mean hey they wrote a transgender mean killer they could have don’t it for Sasha
@@TheRockangel1995 it’s just a theory. I didn’t think Sasha was plus size either but they certainly acted like they didn’t know how to dress her. I just feel like her being bigger than the other girls caused issues. Like in the earlier seasons Alison’s fat shammed Hannah and etc can’t see that happening now. I get what your saying with CeCe but I still think it was easier because she was thin. Idk I feel like her character went down hill as soon as the weight gain started through no fault of Sasha’s!
@@intotheunknown6736 I think you’ve hit the nail on the head, even if that wasn’t the sole reason I think it definitely contributed. Audiences are more willing to accept skinny mean girls because they’re still seen as being at the top of the totem pole, but plus sized mean girls are just seen as bitter villains who treat people badly because they’re insecure. I really hope it didn’t affect Sashas confidence too permanently because it must’ve been difficult to see your body change so much so fast, even though she was absolutely gorgeous at any size
@@katieeelmore I agree. Sasha is beautiful at any size and a great actress. I just noticed from s6 on wards they didn’t know how to dress her and her character turned into something completely different. During 5a she was still the Ali we know and even in 5b she was still herself but from 6 on wards she ooc. And it just so happened to coincide with her weight gain.
@@intotheunknown6736 do you remember that scene when Allison told Hannah that they used to be a lot easier to tell us apart that’s when they first addressed it
This is such a good analysis omg, I watched PLL on repeat several times but I never noticed so many things like these, I love your Analysis videos!!
Thank you!!
i wish they would just refilm the last episode and make Ali A
Plus, Sasha did an amazing job as a villain, she was superb from that young age. But she also showed vulnerability so it wasn't just a 2d character.
Alison and Aria are the most likely to be A. I know that I Marlene King wanted Aria as A but changed the ending anyways. If you rewatch all of the episodes, Aria is also pretty twisted like Ali....
A bunch of people have mentioned that claim about Marlene changing the ending away from Aria being A, and it's gotten me really curious to know where that info's coming from? I've definitely never heard that before and am wondering how I could have missed it if she really did confirm it somewhere!
why Aria?
I hate the fact that Alison wasn't A. They had such a good shot at making this show great, and they dropped the ball trying to redeem Alison and putting her with Emily.
And it still didn't stick, their engagement is called off by Emily in The Perfectionists
@@Nathi98 the perfectionists isn’t canon anymore with its cancellation. And Marlene said Alison and Emily get back together
@@NightRises234
Cancelation doesn't de-canonise what has been made canon. Unless a book, movie or other show does. Like with The Suite Life On Deck canonising Mr. Mosby being London's parental figure more than her actual parents.
Marlene always shipbaits, she's been doing that for 8 years now. She did this with Emison the most.
Emily called off their engagement, Alison dated other people in The Perfectionists
@@Nathi98 Marlene, you know the creator, said Emison got back together. You don’t get more canon than the creator saying it
@@NightRises234
You know what, never mind. Seems like we won't agree on this.
I’m thinking it’s retroactive writing, where they dropped hints that Alison would be A but then went back on it because the audience caught on. Don’t foreshadow stuff if you’re not going to follow up on it, it’s just bad writing.
Well, in the books it is actually (spoiler !) Alison's twin sister who happens to be the real Alison. Basically Alison had a twin that was in a psych ward but their places got swapped and the twin pretended to be Alison for all those years until she died. I think that while being very weird, it made more sense than the route the tvshow took
I recently read the first 8 books just to get closure for how awful the CeCe and AD reveals were. The book Ali is A reveal was so good, the perfect blend of crazy killer and popular bitch
Whenever I get sad about the ending of PLL I will watch this video again and embrace it as truth.
I love that! So glad you enjoyed!
then she wouldn't be SO boring
Oh maybe boring in order to foô the viewers or the liars. ALISON BEEN AD would have been THE ultimate betrayal
@@charlestoti2252 that's why it would've been so great
Here me out. Alison has a severe power complex. Was forced out of hiding when they discovered she's alive. Grew her A team pretty widely and just completely fucked with these girls life's for fun.
Honestly, she was the perfect villain and they gave her a redemption arc? For what? Her and Mona as A>>
this all makes SO MUCH SENSE. holy crap, you've got me questioning everything lol. especially questioning how so many of these 'coincidences' went unnoticed by so many people, myself included. i absolutely love this video!! hoping you make more content like it, it could be really fun to see an aria video like this!! :D
Thank you!! I've actually been thinking back on a few weird Aria moments lately. I could never make a video on this scale for any other character, unfortunately - I started theorizing about Alison back in 2016, so the content in this video is a product of five years of theories! But I *have* been considering making a more speculative video about Aria.
@@marinaalexis it definitely shows that this theory is near and dear to you!! i would watch any analysis videos you make though, i really enjoy them 😁
This. Was. INCREDIBLEEEEEE!! I really do applaud you on your PLL knowledge cuz most of the stuff mentioned throughout the show I completely forgot about!! Ahhhh I am so on your side that Ali should’ve & will always be THE A, & this was just GENIUSSSSS!! Your so awesome Marina for real!! 🙇♀️💙🙌🙌🙌🙌
Thank youu Haley so glad you liked it!!
I haven't watched PLL since the last episode came out, but this video made me sad. It was such a waste of potential to not make Ali A. The show could have gone down in history as one of the best mystery TV shows of all time, and Ali as one of the best villains. It's a shame Marlene King was so hellbent on trying to outsmart her audience she didn't just write what made sense.
The most satisfying ending would’ve been the same as the books. The storyline in the books is INSANE and amazing
I can not stand the fact that we were robbed of a perfect ending because Marlene was tooo busy trying to be the smartest girlie 🙄
Never thought about the scar being from the Halloween train!! Totally makes sense!!!!!!
Literally wow.. this is so well put together, each and everything makes total sense and I completely agree with you; Alison should of been the last “A”.
YES! I have been saying this for years! Mona never should have been revealed as A, but as a helper. Aria should have been the main target in season 3, and A’s identity shouldn’t have been revealed until the last season and it SHOULD have been Alison. I will never forgive the writers for ruining their best villain. Alison and Emily should not have gotten together since Alison constantly used Emily and held her sexuality over her. It’s like the writers forgot how awful Ali was to her in all the flashbacks before she disappeared.
Shut up Mona should’ve been A
Mona was better as A Tf
Even if Alison wanted to give those masks of her face to the other girls, that would still be weird. I'd be so creeped out if my friend gave me a mask of their face so I could "look like them"
Aria and Alison were the perfect choices to make the Ultimate A but the showrunners were so focused on subverting audience expectations and wanting to make plot twists that they ruined the story
They really could've done a lot with aria. She had so much potential as A.
I need someone to just redo Pll to fix the mistakes Marlene made lol

Alison was supposed to be the Uber A. It was the actress’s weight gain that meant she couldn’t be red coat - her stunt double now had a different figure.
This is sooo good! All would made more sense if she was A, god, if they just had followed the books, Ali would be really interesting!
Again, great video ;D
Thank you!!
This was fantastic and I can’t describe how much I loved your video on this! Your insight and effort is incredible
Thank you so much!!
I like how Aria was originally meant to be A but people caught on so they changed the plot. Aria and Alison would've been much better than all these twists and turns of characters.
But imagine if Mona was the first A but Alison was like... "how dare Mona impersonate me and do such a poor job! I'll show them the Real A" and that would replace Cece (and the show would end by then and not have the secret Elloh Sistah plot twist)
This is such a good analysis! You did such a great job putting all the pieces together! Cece never made sense and Alex was such a mess! Alison should’ve been Uber A and AD. She was tricking the girls all along, or they should’ve made it that the person who had been watching them and returned in S4 was actually Courtney (the twin from the books) pretending to be Alison who had really died in before the season 1 time jump. I think the writers originally wanted to make her A but lost their gut!
My finale plot would've been that Alison is revealed as A.D and Alison from seasons 4 - 7 is in fact Courtney
this would’ve made the show 100x better and courtney would’ve been playing as alison towards the girls until the very end where it’s revealed that alison is really dead and courtney was pretending to be her.
this is better than the actual show
ALISON AS A WAS LITERALLY THE BEST IT COULDVE BEEN AN AMAZING ENDING
What frustrated me the most is Ali supposedly hiding in a nearby town all this time, moving in and out of their lives and keeping tabs on them without being spotted once
PLL has the worst writing ever. They completly ignored physics and forensics. They made things up to fill the biggest plot holes ever. Every season you get the feeling they didnt know if there would be another season at all. So they tried to prepare for a big finale, but when they got Green Light for another season, they switched to a second or third line character to keep the Rest alive.... Also they are cowards. You knew after season 1 that none of the characters would die or be really harmed. Also i never thought for a second, Ezra could be evil. They would never risk this.... All in all it got boring and silly... The last episode beeing cringeworthy bad ....
i’m so fucking happy people are still theorizing about this show. it’s literally the best thing to have ever aired in the US so true
The faint john mulaney appearance for “secondary location” is everything
This makes so much sense than those "Aria is A" theories.
We all loved Mean Girl Ally than we did Victim Ally
I prefer nice girl Ali
I think they should've followed the plot of the book with Ali having a twin and that the "ali" the liars knew was actually Ali's twin.
The writers thought the viewers and fans wanted the most shocking ending but no we wanted something that would hurt us as fans and actually shock us like Allison or Aria as A would of done that for us. It would of been a satisfying ending.
20:21 that secondary location joke was very appreciated :)
I’ve always believed that Aria was somehow involved with the A team. Idk I’ve always thought that out of all the the liars she was the least tormented one and there’s a lot of plot holes regarding her character and behavior besides Alie.
Really appreciate the quality and care that so obviously was put into this analysis. Well-done!
i think that A being Alison would’ve not only made so much sense but the audience could’ve been let in on the fact towards the end and it still have been a good, suspenseful show. for example, the main plot of bridgerton season 1 was finding out who last whistledown was but by the end of the season they told us exactly who it was. going forward it was about the implications of who it was and if and when the other characters would find out what we knew. the fact that it’s someone apart of the characters lives and we couldn’t tell our favourite characters this is part of the build up. imagine how much DRAMA we could’ve gotten at the end of the show when these girls find out everything EVERY LITTLE DETAIL was planned out by their best friend. how it was always her. you might’ve guessed it was Alison but that couldn’t stop what happened to the liars when they found out.
This would’ve been such a good ending. I feel like they were too scared to take an actual risk by making A one of the girls, but good writing requires risk. It would’ve been an actually interesting and “brave” (for lack of a better word lol) choice instead of trying to make Ali normal. I love WLW representation but I think Emily/Alison is just so toxic & was a bad choice. I also thought Aria being A would’ve been an interesting idea. The Alex Drake with the terrible British accent twist felt like a sad joke lmao
As someone who is bi, I don't believe for a second Ali was actually bi
She had sex with Emily 2 times. Those 2 times was when Emily was questioning of Ali's intentions. Ali tries to keep her trust by lovebombing, kissing & having sex with Emily
The book ending is so much better than the show ending. You can tell that the writers really let the plot get away from them. It's a shame when they literally had a blueprint on who A was supposed to be.
im sorry for the comment spam on this 2 year old video but it's AMAZING, im having the best morning cause of ur vid
This video just proves how bad at analysis i am, bc I've watched PLL about 7 times and I would of never came up with this conclusion. It honestly makes so much sense, you've pretty much convinced me. 😂
i think Alison was 100% supposed to be A but they did what gossip girl did and swapped it last minute so the fans would be "shocked" by it being someone they didnt guess.
Ali was definitely supposed to be A, I mean considering how manipulative and vindictive A was to all the girls……that’s Ali in a nutshell. She should’ve also been arrested for all the shit she did.
Honestly, Season 5 should have had some sort of reveal that the Alison that we all knew from the beginning, was actually Courtney (the actual dead DiLaurentis twin from the books, but she should have survived in Show Ali’s place) and the Season 6 reveal of '-A' should have been the ACTUAL Alison.
The fact about Alison getting good was the borest thing. The consist of ''PLL'' was Alison being mean and consequences of her actions. The inconsist of writing was noticiable. Mona being ''A'' was the only thing that made sense to me. Alison should have been ''A'' after Mona like in the books. I remember when I first watched ''PLL' I was really entertained trying to discover who killed Alison or who ''A'' is, but the season are coming and I was getting sooo bored about everything.
Me, who has never watched an episode of PLL in my life: Hmmm interesting
This is a great video!! I completely agree that Ali should've been A. in my opinion, not revealed to be alive until the very end
my biggest problem with the writers trying to "outsmart the audience" is that there were multiple popular theories... picking one of the popular fan theories literally would have still been a surprise for everyone because there were several plausible ones, so regardless no one knew for sure which one it would be... Aria or Ali were great choices, and I don't find either one of them "predictable" because they're both plausible and satisfying so there was no way to know which one of them it would be!!
honestly, the real ending is so bad I would have been content with A being literally anyone who was in the pilot episode; no matter what, it's more satisfying for A to be a character we've known of the entire time
another note: I still love Mona as the original A because like you pointed out, there were so many clues that it could be Alison, so it furthers the point that Mona hated Ali so much that she became her
Thanks for analyzing this. Looking at the evidence again the writers actually wrote a perfect A if it had been Alison. Everything was there and it would have been fulfilling if it had simply been her. Everything would have made sense, the clues, the acting, and would have round up smoothly. Could have been a show I re-watch from time to time. But not with this ending, where I know that I can watch for clues through all the seasons and find nothing.
Wow, I already thought Ali should’ve been A, but you did an amazing job of highlighting why that is. Great video!
This is a fantastic video and breakdown/theory. Some very damning points!
This is so well thought out, Alison should’ve been A it would have been so satisfying
Ali definitely should have been A. The first 2/3 of the series repeatedly confirms that Ali is a manipulative sociopath. Then suddenly she has a personality transplant...which was just weird. But as the show confirmed that 2/3 was Ali....they apparently just ignore basic psychology. you can't just go from sociopath to having the same level of empathy as everyone else (aka personality transplant) .
If the show was to do any evil Twin storyline it should have been Ali as the evil twin and personality-transplant-Ali as the good twin. The only 'logical' explanation for that.
But to me, the show was aiming for Ali to be A. I fell like in season six they decided they just wanted to throw in some twists and didn't want an obvious A. But it would have been smart if they made her the final reveal. Throw us off her scent for awhile, then reveal Ali was A... I actually thought her teaming up with Jenna would have been cool because she did at one point try to befriend her (before Jenna snubbed her).
AND even when Ali was supposed to be 14 (in the timeline before she went missing), she was blackmailing, manipulating, showing no remorse etc. So it's weird that she would just run off and hide in a basement somewhere during her missing time. She was smart enough & seemed to make enough connections that she'd be somewhere nicer, planning something...
The plot holes are all just bad writing but Ali was the best choice.
One of my favorites is that Wren is/was A or was involved. The writers were clearly leaving clues wren was involved from end of season 2/beginning of season 3. In early season 3 wren says his dad was in a mental hospital and if it was radley he could’ve grown up with Charlotte and known pretty much everything from her. He could’ve been working for her and dated Melissa to get close to Ali’s friends and the dilaurentis family after she was put back in radley because of Ali’s disappearance. It makes so much more sense that wren is helping mona and cece get out and that wren finds Alex from the radley records when he’s working there and introduces them. Also he could’ve found out about mona prior to the season two finale and used charlottes info on the disappearance as leverage to get her to do things as A, which explains mona saying “I did everything you asked” and “don’t they know that’s what we want” in the season two finale, they still could’ve had Charlotte come in and talk to her especially if wren gave her drugs knowing she wouldn’t remember, meaning mona wouldn’t have known Charlotte and wren were involved. Alex drake could’ve lied about wren not wanting to be as involved so she could seem like the mastermind or wren could still be alive as a failsafe in case Alex got caught.
i love this omfg it makes it so that everything is so much more connected. marlene really messed up
@@ninainejwylanbrekker it makes so much more sense to have wren involved from the beginning, instead of him like meeting Alex by chance. I like to pretend he was involved and Alex lied lmao
I feel like she was supposed to be,BUT because everyone was thinking it was her they changed it. I would have loved for her to be AD at the end because she turned into like this helpless housewife and everyone was feeling bad for her so her being AD would show how truly manipulative and evil she was
it just makes the most sense
The only explained reason I have for Alison not being A is they mentioned Spencer’s twin stalking them and at one point Alison was scared of someone.
Yes, This is the most make sense video I have ever seen. Alison was w/O a doubt supposed to be "Uber A". They kept saying the PLL story would come full circle, the only person who would have been Alison she was there in the beginning. & also something that points Alison as A is when Mona & Spencer were in the car Spencer said " so what's the plan A, ALWAYS HAS A PLAN RIGHT? " Mona says "YES, SHE DOES! " then later on we see Mona saying to someone who turned out to be "CeCe" "I've did everything thing you told me" and it was later revealed that Mona thought CeCe was Alison. Why would Mona be saying I did everything you asked me, if she wasn't talking about being A? What because Alison told Mona to "ditch the clothes & never leave home without your face"???? No! That's not why she was saying " I did everything you asked me to" .
It should’ve been mona, then aria, then ultimately alison. Smh. Id give anything for a mass reshoot
Even wren (but to fair he doesn’t really have a motive, but there are so many clues pointing towards him).
Alison is who everyone thought A was
Aria is who A was supposed to be
Basically the character of Courtney from the books was replaced with Alison's mother, Jessica DiLaurentis. The book version of Alison was replaced with Mary Drake and Alex Drake.
Ali being the final A like in the books just made the most sense. It's also the twins cliche but it kinda worked
A friend of mine was obsessed with PLL and I watched some of it with her but I could never get into it because I just thought I was obvious from the start that A was Alison. But then there were all of these plot points that didn’t add up. Would’ve been a cooler show if the writers just accepted that Alison was the obvious choice and lent into it more. Would’ve been epic to have her as the ultimate villain and her “friends” trying to find her. Like gossip girl but instead of “who is it?” It’s more a “where is she and why is she doing this?” Line of questioning.
There were 3 people I would have liked to been A: Mona,I really liked that she was earlier, she was my favorite. I agree , Allison would have been perfect A,it would have made perfect sense. Last I really liked Aria's arc to be A. I really didn't like the twin with Spencer. Great video!
I mean, this would have been so so so so so so predictable, but still sounds better than Spencer having an evil twin
This show had SUCH potential 😩 I’ll never forgive Marlene for dropping the ball on this! 😞
Also another parallel, or maybe not but... Alison could have just as well sent text to herself. Mona also did this, she made it look like she was a victim of A's torture to gain sympathy from Hannah. Also when shawna came to the theater & Alison said "Jenna was playing you" she said to Ali " No Ali that's what you do" why did Shawna go from helping Alison to wanting to kill her? Because she found out Alison is A. I think Alison killed Maya too, remember they said "Miss Aria You're A Killer, Not Ezra's Wife" the numonic was "MAYA KNEW" why would Mona spell that out for the Liars if she wasn't hiding the actual meaning from Alison & CeCe? They send this random guy in hear to "Clean Up" the story what did Maya Know - this whole storey definitely!!! Did not add up.
I think u were supposed to take Marlene place u arrange it very well Maya kill by nate was so stupid unsane and boooooooooring I don't know what happened to Marlene if she followed the book her show would have more success
I think the whole point was keeping things as unexpected as possible to keep people engaged in the story, especially with the theme/genre that it is.
I think that is probably exactly what they were going for, and on paper it seems like a great idea. But maybe because the show went on for so long, or maybe because the writers just got lazy over time, what ended up happening was that they focused so much on keeping things unexpected that they lost any coherence in the story. I think in the end, the lack of direction, constant red-herrings, and ultimately disappointing resolutions ended up turning more and more people away rather than keeping them engaged.
I could not agree more with everything you just said in this video!!!!!!!
I think Ezra would have been the best A, it made a lot of sense and would have been 10 times better than the A.D thing😂. Then again anything would have been better
