  • When the weather gets hot, or just before if you like to think ahead your thoughts turn to that old Air Conditioner. Will it make it through another year? Mine did not.
    If you are in the market for a new AC and are looking for one that will fit in a hole in your wall that seems a little smaller than other units then this might be the one you are looking for.
    When I had one unit stop working and the other older 5,00 BTU just not cutting it I found the Friedrich Kuhl KC808A10A. It is an energy star air conditioner that is 8,000 BTU. So if you are looking for something to replace that older less powerful AC this could be right up your alley.

      Any button can be tapped first.. then the power button. The unit "Goes to sleep" when the display goes dark. a button must be pressed first to wake it up on either the remote, or the panel. So yes, you can press the power button twice, or any other button first, and then the power button. Just remember.. You have to "wake it up" first by pressing a button.

    I bought one that looks like the one you have, except mine also has heat. (needed in NYC. Model is KEQ08A11A). I was able to get mine on Wi-Fi and Friedrich Connect, so no worries here as of 09/23/20. (Maybe they fixed it??) Wifi does give you access to scheduling etc, Turning it on and off and adjusting the thermostat. Works fairly well. I will point out that you can press any button, not just the power button to wake it. If the display is black, you must wake the unit first in order to perform any function. Any button on the A/C, or Remote will do that. You have to wake it, then power it on. Wake it then power it off etc...I have mixed feelings about this aspect of the user interface, but the WIFI does work and it cools and heats great and is super quiet. The model with heat allows setting a temp for the Cooling and Heat so if it get's too cold in the evening, the heat will come on and if gets too hot, the A/C part will come on.

    Hello, how has this model held up for you now that it's been 4 years? Friedrichs definitely come with a price premium as far as wall/window units go, I think they're about as pricey as it gets before going to PTACs and mini splits even. I took this to mean that they'd be built to better standards compared to your average General Electrics and Frigidaires. Any complaints?

    Just wondering, Mine also does the fan thing where changing the Fan Speed results in the unit turning off and turning back on. This seems to be normal for this unit. What I've noticed on mine though is if I set the cooling below 66, the unit will occasionally turn off and power right back on. The Compressor will be off for like a minute and kick back in. It doesn't do this all the time but just occasionally and only when I set it to 66 or below. Have you noticed this too?

      I was able to connect mine to Wifi without issue. I will say that you must have a 2.4 GHZ channel available and you MUST also use the 2.4 GHZ channel on which ever device you are using to register the unit with, until the unit completes the registration process. If you're trying to connect on a computer that's on Wifi and plugged into ethernet, unplug the ethernet portion and log onto the 2.4 ghz channel to complete the registration process. Once the unit has registered you're free to log your smart phone, tablet, or computer back to 5 GHZ channel on your router if you wish.

    • @webraider1972
      @webraider1972 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@willad5381 You have to make sure everything is entered correctly. I do not believe this can connect at 5GHZ so you'll most likely need to use 2.4 GHZ. (the earlier versions of this model used a dongle that could only connect at 2.4 ghz and this is how I connected this version too.) In my case I have an Apple Airport Extreme with both 2.4 and 5. I had to use the WPA2 setting for the password which matches the WPA2 personal setting on the Airport Extreme. You'll know you got this right as once you enter the password information and it saves it to the A/C, you'll see the WIFI symbol stop blinking and it will be solid. One final note, you must connect this using a computer, phone or tablet that is on the same wireless network. It cannot be connected with ethernet (ie. a laptop/desktop that's connected via an ethernet). Basically if you are doing this on a computer that has an ethernet port with wifi capabilities, make sure the ethernet cable is unplugged. When you got to finalize make sure you log back onto the same wireless connection the A/C is using (ie..2.4 ghz). I haven't tried the 5GHZ so it might work but it might not.

      Logged into my Friedrich account on both mobile phone and computer. Logged out and back in several times on each. Tired linking to different Wi-Fi networks in my home. One 2.4 for my IOT stuff then one I made just for the AC. Placed a wifi access point right by the ac unit, even fully powered down and unplugged the ac a few times. Just could not get it to work.

    • @michaeldodd9671
      @michaeldodd9671 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the issue most people have is one of the following:
      1. You MUST have a router that offers a unique 2.4 GHZ connection. It can offer more speeds like 5.0 ghz but it needs to offer a 2.4 ghz channel.
      2. Secondly, I think people mess up on is not knowing the encryption to their wifi and/or messing up with the credentials. You need to know if it's WPA, WPA2, etc...
      3. Finally, You MUST have both the A/C and the device you are using to register the Friedrich A/C (Smartphone/Computer/Tablet) on the SAME 2.4 GHZ connection during the registration process. If you are using a computer, it cannot be plugged into Ethernet, as it must rely solely on the 2.4 ghz wifi connection until the registration with Friedrich is complete. I suggest "forgetting" the 5.0 ghz connection BEFORE you even start the registration process and selecting the 2.4 ghz connection. This is where most people mess up. They get their A/C to actually connect which means you made it past 1 and 2, but during the process after you've connected directly to your A/C, devices get kicked back off the A/C once the proper credentials are loaded and return by default to the 5.0 GHZ connection they previously established and the registration process will then fail.
      NOTE: You don't NEED the app (There isn't one for a computer), but some people have reported success doing it on the app when they couldn't on the website and/or vice versa. The process is the same whichever you choose to use.
      The process should be:
      1. Make sure your wifi has a dedicated 2.4 GHZ channel with it's own name.
      2. Make sure you create a Friedrich A/C account online first!
      3. Make sure you know the name of your 2.4 GHZ connection (also known as the SSID)
      4. Make sure you know the password and the password type (ie.. WPA, WPA2, etc..). NOTE: WPA/WPA2 personal is a WPA2 connection type
      5. On your connection device of choice (Computer, Smartphone, Tablet) remove ANY ethernet cable if connected and forget or remove any credentials to a 5 GHZ or higher connection. Then connect Solely to the 2.4 GHZ speed Wifi
      6. Go to the Friedrich Connect in either the App or Website and click the "Add" icon to add your A/C.
      7. Follow the prompts by entering in your time Zone and then Click the "NEXT" icon at the the bottom right.
      8. You should be prompted on the next screen to put your A/C in the CNCT (WIFI Pairing) mode
      9. ON A/C press the menu button (Inside the A/C Panel), and press one of the arrow buttons until you see CNTC, then press MENU again. You will see the Wifi symbol on the A/C flash now.
      10. ON App/Website Select the "Next" button"
      11. You should be prompted now to connect to a FriedrichConnect_XXXX) network. (This is actually your Air Conditioner)
      12. ON your mobile/computer device Go to your Wifi device list (where you select you network) and find the device "FriedrichConnect_XXXX" and select it.
      13. Go back to the website/App and select the "Next" button.
      13. Enter the name of your 2.4 GHZ network (SSID), Wifi Security type (Most likely WPA2, but you have to know) and Password which is Case Sensitive.
      12. On your mobile Device/Computer select "Next" you should see "Credentials successfully saved" and the A/C will most likely kick you off the direct WIFI connection at this point. IF you see that the WIFI connection icon on the A/C becomes steady it means you have successfully connected the A/C to your Wifi, and you've done everything correct up to this point. If it does NOT become steady it means something wasn't done correctly up to this point and you'll have to start over. Assuming it's correct continue to step 13.
      13. MAKE SURE before you proceed that your device (Computer/Smartphone/Tablet) is connected to back to your 2.4 GHZ Wifi connection!! (THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT)
      14. Go back to the website/App on your mobile device/computer and select "Next"
      15. It will be searching for your device so DO NOT click on Close until it finishes. This shouldn't take more than 3 minutes and will usually only be a few seconds.
      16. If your connection/registration process is successful, you can go back to your computer/mobile device, forget the 2.4 GHZ connection and re-connect at 5 GHz if you so choose. This won't affect the A/C anymore as it's now communicating and has been validated properly.
      I hope this helps! I've had no issues with my connection.
