      Honestly it's a great film but I think it suffers because the original play was the ultimate example of the "what if" writing exercise in conflict with the historical reality of Mozart and his music. It's so much about the sorrow and frustration of the earthbound artists comparing themselves to the transcendent ones that it's a distraction from what most music lovers feel about Mozart. That scene where Mozart is guiding Salieri in transcribing his conception resolves that conflict IMHO and is the most effective and wonderful sequence but the whole film feels a little off and wrong because we have a hard time taking its universe on its own terms. Mozart was so much an actual genius that we have a hard time accepting him more as an _example_ of genius, I would say.

    It's easy to rip on this movie for not being "historically accurate". But here is the thing, "Amadeus" is adapted for the screen from Peter Shaffer's Tony award winning play. That play was based off of an 1830 Russian play that played the "Salieri murdered Mozart" muckraking rumor like fact. And even then, the "true story" of Mozart's death is unknown. Then, you add the perspective of the story where the audience is told the story from a madman. Salieri; in the play/movie, is not in his right mind, so the perspective is possibly skewed if you think about it too hard. So, therefore it gets a pass in the whole "historically accurate" debate. I can't believe I'm saying this but "Amadeus" has more in common with "300" than it does with a Biography program (which is what you need to watch in order to get the facts and even those are shrouded in mystery). We will never know what happened to Mozart. For some, it's easier to imagine he was murdered rather than dying at a young age from something as common as pneumonia. Rant over. Love this movie.

    • @cooperxtreme1566
      @cooperxtreme1566 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The movie wasn’t even made to be historically accurate, I don’t think at least.

    • @jbvader721
      @jbvader721 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@siphillis That came about because director Milos Forman stated that he wanted the actors to focus more on performance rather than on if they're getting a foreign accent right. He viewed the whole accent debate as a distraction as the performance was far more important in his view.

    • @jbvader721
      @jbvader721 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@cooperxtreme1566 You're right. It wasn't made to be "historically accurate". Peter Shaffer admitted to taking "artistic license" when writing both the play and the script adaptation which had to change things to fit the medium of film.

    Curieusement, ce film est un film de mon enfance ! En effet, ayant commencé la musique classique à 7 ans, on m'a très tôt parlé de ce film, et, subjugué par la beauté de celui-ci, je j'ai jamais cessé de le regarder x') Pour moi c'est un grand classique, et tous ceux qui disent le contraire ont tout bonnement tort X'D
    Cette vidéo était particulièrement bien faite je trouve : le moment où commence le "dies irae" est pile le moment où l'on Mozart diriger son orchestre, et il y a d'autres moments comme ça qui sont très plaisants à voir x') Bravo 👏
    Petite anecdote : j'ai déjà chanté le requiem de Mozart dans une chorale, c'était une expérience incroyable.

    I was dragged back in the early 80's to see this film. I thought it was another boring foreign movie type film with constant boring dialog. WOW was I wrong. What I didn't expect was how humorous this was. This film introduced me to classical music. Now I listen to classical all the time. Truly a brilliant film and should be studies from the acting to the how they filmed these scenes that look so real.

    I muted this video and played the ending song in the movie Mozart-Piano Concerto in D Minor.
    Imo that piece fits this video perfectly and a lot of times the montage perfectly matches the rhythm of the song.
