Hey Bushy I have a horrible idea for a run - ashes of war attacks only but with your FP bar drained completely at all times. The ashes of war that I'm thinking of are sacred blade. There is a long wind up for the slash attack and it doesn't do the holy beam but the attack will still do damage. Another horrible idea would be thunderbolt - when you raise your weapon to do the attack it actually has a melee hit box and you can hurt enemies if you're basically touching them.
Makes me laugh when people call normal things a crutch, like jump attacks and spirit ashes, because neither of those things allow you to instakill bosses at RL1, the buffs that people use before a fight however, do...
My "first playthrough crush" was guard counters, actually. Heck, I still like them. They pair well with Barricade Shield. Strictly a PVE-only thing, though.
damn seriously? id understand first attempt, and im not saying im some god at souls games cause im pretty bad and it def took me at least 1-2 hours on my first playthrough, but after that and beating morgott later on in the run for every subsequent run margit just felt like a baby version of morgott lol, i usually was able to beat him within like 3 or 4 attempts after run 1. Though i also dont do challenge runs outside of like trying incants only and stuff like that so maybe youve just been putting more difficulty on yourself than ive been
@@JubioHDX “dozen” is a bit of an exaggeration but yeah. I struggled each time I went in with a new character/build. Just kept overestimating my damage and didn’t have many flasks. Then one day it clicked and I haven’t had any major issues with most bosses in base game since.

I will say when i did my 2nd playthrough deciding to go all in on faith and do incants only after doing a arcane/strength weapon build in my first playthrough, i did end up taking like 2 hours at LEAST on rennala cause i had just never used spells before and i had basically just stagger locked her in my first run and didnt know any of her moves. So i definitely understand having random bosses you thought werent hard suddenly becoming absolute demons when you try to use a new build that just doesnt work for them
As an added bonus, if you try to 2-hand a seal you end with your offhand gripping the wrist of the main hand, which allows you to run around looking like an absolute psychopath...and yes, you can absolutely "punch" while doing that, and let me tell you, if I ever got in a fight and the other guy was using both arms to throw ONE punch, I'd probably just give up immediately
As someone who was inspired to play this after watching Bushy and Lil'A doing challenge runs I braced myself for a really hard time, and don't get me wrong, the game has been tough. However, I was surprised when I reached some bosses and just ran over them. Took me a little bit to remember these guys are challenging themselves to insanely hard runs where I'm slow grinding everything and I'm way over leveled with a strong weapon for the area I'm in xD

Tip: If you need sustain in Rennala phase 1, get the Serpent-God Curved Sword and put it in your offhand. This works through non-boss gameplay too, and weighs less than the shield.
Slightly off topic but the Rennalas fight reminded me of it, am I the only one who finds some of the bloodhound knights movesets almost identical to the abyss watchers?
The reason why spinning weapon didn’t have the option to be imbued with frost is because Bushy didn’t grab the OG whetblade from the ruins you get torrent at. If you don’t grab that whetblade, all other attunements will be unavailable from standard.
you can farm abberants in the fort at the bottom of mount gelmir and there you can get the fire head to kill them for you quite reliably so you could have it for Margit and save yourself tones of headache
Sad watching this challenge run build with a higher DPS than the build I used to beat the game. I didn’t know what scaling was and just dumped all my runes into strength thinking that would make me hit harder 😞
you know anytime I watch a Bushy vid I always find myself thinking, "why would anyone do this to themselves?" but tbh I'm glad he does cause its good content lol
honestly, it has always baffled me that spell tools and bare hands are just never given actual attacks, outside of specific exceptions like the tin banishment catalyst and the vanquisher's seal. like, i understand them not being _good_ weapons, but their ar is genuinely so pitiful that it takes incredible effort to beat the _goddamn animals not far from the stranded graveyard_ to death. hell, the fists at least get the unarmed moveset ( with barely any poise damage ), meanwhile staves are stuck with this incredibly wimpy smack that is somehow slower than _swinging a goddamn mace._ it's not even like it's a "nerdy mage can't swing a sword" thing, the signature int weapon across all these games is the _moonlight greatsword!_ you're telling me the protagonists of these games can handle all these actual weapons with proper finesse and skill, but can't figure out how to effectively club someone with a fancy stick? i mean, apparently the bearer of the curse can. i haven't actually seen the staff moveset in that game, but they did bother giving the staves and pyromancy flames actual ars in it. no idea why that didn't stick really the thing that gets me about it is that they have to go _out of their way_ to make these things so bad. they made the animations, assigned 'em to a button, decided on the exact ar and scaling values for each tool, and all for the sake of something that's a mild curiosity for anyone who hasn't lost their sanity waiting for the dlc. they don't even do anything _fun_ with it in elden ring! all the crystal armaments do magic damage scaling with int _except for two used for the main int mechanic!_ the frenzied flame seal is apparently enough of a frenzied flame punch to cause frenzy build-up, but not deal any fire damage ... yet despite these two things, the erdtree seal _specifically_ and none of the other holy-themed seals get a pittance of holy damage? oh, and the big stick the demihuman queens love to bonk you with and toss at you? yeah that bonks as well as the crystal staff but as a non-somber weapon, very fun i just don't get it
I swear to god my first few playthroughs I got the rotten crystal staff the first time I killed the enemy that dropped it so I thought it had a 100% drop rate but then I could never get it to drop ever again and I thought I was going crazy.
Wait, strength scaling on catalysts doesn't actually affect spell damage? So the Clawmark seal is just uniquely suitable if you want to bonk your enemies over the head with what looks like a small rock?
Bushy took a loot at the game and went "how can i make this even more time consuming and hellish for myself?" Next video he just plays on randomised controls one handed while only using left handed shield ashes of war.

As an added bonus, if you try to 2-hand a seal you end with your offhand gripping the wrist of the main hand, which allows you to run around looking like an absolute psychopath...and yes, you can absolutely "punch" while doing that, and let me tell you, if I ever got in a fight and the other guy was using both arms to throw ONE punch, I'd probably just give up immediately

The staff is no longer held in your hand, so you're not really hitting something directly.
It is melee. It’s not a spell and he can’t use it to hit something that isn’t right next to him.

You should try to beat elden ring with your button layout randomizing every 60 seconds (or every time you enter a boss arena)

You can give spinning weapon frost tho, Idk about staffs but Ive been using it with the godskin peeler with cold affinity.
Staffs can't have Affinity infusion, so they don't get access to frost and the like with normal AOW
