I just want to say Thank You. My boyfriend is Māori, but grew up with his mum who is white and his dad who is Māori but was never in the picture. He draws a lot from listening to your videos and learning to play the songs.
Tino ataahua tenei waiata , reminds me of Tainui , every time I return home to Aotearoa , From Kwinana Western Australia
Where are you from here in Aotea…
I’m 25 mins from Raglan.
Sending you big vibes of love from home. You may never see this. Dont forget ur roots xx
as a brazilian guy, I think it is the most beautiful maori song I heard...
Bro theres heaps haha
voxarthur k kkkkkkkkkkkk i i i
I second that!!!!
As I said, I'm Brazilian. I dont have any Maori cultural reference, so I spoke through what I knew. If people disagree with me, no problem. We are not here trying to figure out which is the best song, it is just a personal opinion.
@@voxarthur mean bruv! Check my channel out if you need references
Love your tone, awesome! This song was composed by the Kupenga brothers, Ngati Porou and tells of their experience on top of Hikurangi Maunga o te Tai Rawhiti. I love the addition at the end of the waiata about the tides, added in by Prof Kereti ... hey why not! Mihiro rawa!!
The first time I heard mutua Kereti sing this song was at te awamutu he was mean❤

Love is like water
continually bubbling up
a river that will keep flowing
from within the very seat of the emotions.
From a very deep source
it will keep on rising
an ebb tide
an incoming tide
a forceful tide
a living tide
a full tide.
John Archer thanks John - love your NZ Folksong site by the way 👍🏼 get a lot of lyrics for waiata from there

What a beutiful song! Im missing NZ so much... I hope, that can come back soon. But its difficult all the way from Germany where i live!
I don't even have a clue what the song is talking about, but it is so beautiful that I'm listening it repeatedly...
First time I heard this song last weekend, with English translation. Such a beautiful loving song 💜
Good job guy's Nice song
It's wonderful that I feel strong love when singing this waiata. Chur!
I remember singing this all the time during circle time at Arohanui Base School and even at their powhiris. I even did a singing duet with my teacher aide Richelle. It became her favourite thing about going to school then. She still does it when she is Khaian’s teacher at Massey High 2. She really misses doing it with me so much.
Is she still at Massey High?
Just heard this for the first time in waiata before work. Beautiful!

Is it 'He tai roa' a slow tide, or 'He tai ora' a living tide???
I know Ora means Life and Road would usually mean long...
So Tairoa means long tide?
So I guess that means similarly to slow tide...
I donno, I wish I knew my own language natively, but I can only afford to learn it by looking things up online and trying to remember what my kaumatua tried to teach me 😔
Living tide
