Thank you so much for that. I’m a member of the Community of Aidan & Hilda - a dispersed ecumenical community . We have vows that we renew each year, inspired by monastic vows (simplicity, purity & obedience) and this time of year (Hildatide) is when we renew them, and review our Way of Life. So this is so relevant as I go to discuss it with my Soul Friend this week and make my renewal tomorrow.
I've been a Christian my entire life, and most of that, I've been almost "anti-Catholic". I've viewed it as the true faith of Jesus being co-opted and corrupted by men to gain power and control throughout history. It has a lot of strange things that I'd argue aren't entirely Biblical (indulgences and the eucharist). Coming from that perspective, I must say, I love your channel. You have a refreshing seriousness about your faith and your countenance is permeated with the fruit of the spirit. I've learned a lot and find your messages very insightful and enlightening. Thank you for doing what you do and showing the true heart of a follower of Christ.
But the eucharist is completely biblical "Jesus said to them, ‘Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you do not have life within you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him. John 6:66 From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him. “You do not want to leave too, do you?” Jesus asked the Twelve. " *Instead of correcting all the disciples saying no no it's only symbolic he doubled down and even asked the disciples if they were still willing to follow him.* *Paul also explains later how we must not receive the eucharist in an unworthy state/in a state of mortal sin.* "So then, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. Everyone ought to examine themselves before they eat of the bread and drink from the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body, eats and drinks judgment on himself.” Here is another letter from Paul directly talking about the eucharist “The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ? Because the loaf of bread is one, we, though many, are one body, for we all partake of the one loaf.” 1 Corinthians 10:16-17. The Apostle Paul gave instructions to the Church at Corinth on how they were to fellowship together and take communion. Paul gives some doctrine that states that our participation with the cup and the bread is actually participation with the blood and body of Christ. Paul also reminds us that the Church, although full of diverse people, is one body - because we all partake of the one loaf, Jesus Christ.
Thank you so much Father for your priesthood 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
