    What is the difference between payment gateway and payment switch?

    • @LearnPayments
      @LearnPayments  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      “Payment Gateway” you can assume is the Server component for a merchant plug-in (where you enter the credit/debit card details). It maintains the relationship with the web merchants, and also provides the Merchant plug-in. A Payment Gateway “acts” like a Terminal Acquirer Switch, supporting web based transactions. A PG maintains relationship with the Schemes as well, to push the authorisation to the scheme.
      “Payment Switch” is an OLTP application which supports Issuer and Acquirer transaction processing like supports interface communication with schemes, communication with POS (Transaction acceptance devices), it can also connect to PGs, to communicate with Schemes, with Banking interfaces for authorisation processing, Settlements processing etc.
      Lets see an example
      For e-commerce: Merchant PG Scheme Issuer Switch
      For e-commerce it can also be: Merchant PG Acquirer Switch Scheme Issuer Switch
      For POS transactions: Merchant POS Acquirer Switch Scheme Issuer Switch
      So, while PG and Switch generally perform complementary services, PG caters for web merchants, Switch caters for a wide variety of functions from Interface, Transaction Processing, Settlement etc.
      Watch my video on “3D Secure & eCommerce” th-cam.com/video/Do-x8gTccuA/w-d-xo.html, to know more about PGs.

      With respect to Cards, there are a lot of types of TPPs. This link from Visa gives an overview (not an exhaustive list) usa.visa.com/content/dam/VCOM/download/merchants/tpa-registration-program-faqs.pdf

    Thanks for adding these videos. Very Informative, Sir. Do you have any links or materials to know more about Terminal Security Architecture?

    • @LearnPayments
      @LearnPayments  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Mohit.
      With regards to Terminal Security, I assume you are aware of the EMVCo Level 1, 2, PCI testing requirements, Application Testing. Apart from the terminal there are separate specifications for PIN Pad (PCI PTS requirements).
