Unpopular opinion: this is the best song in the little mermaid musical by far. No offense to the other songs, they're all great, but for some reason this song hits on another level
This is definitely one of my favorites. There is something about it that's so sweet and innocent and I feel this is where Eric falls in love with Ariel for the first time and not just her voice.
As someone who played Prince Eric in The Little Mermaid at a Local theatre, I’d say If Only is the best. If not the best, It definitely gives this song a bit of a run for its money.
Here in Latam we don't know nothing about this Broadway versions. Broadway is part of USA's culture, after all. I've been a Disney and Alan Menken lover since I'm a little child, then I had a girlfriend who was the same. She had The Little Mermaid movie soundtrack in cassette as a child and she loooved every piece of it, particulary the Fireworks Jig. When we discover this Broadway versions we couldn't believe it. This song in particular means so much for me, it's SO good!!!!!!! I've been three years listening to it every week. I also love Aladdin's and Mary Poppins' Broadway versions. Eventhough we're not a couple anymore since like two years ago, we're currently best friends and still meet and listen this album. We can't even take the movie seriously anymore for how good this album is!

Personally I found the play much better than the movie. The songs in it meant more and this scene alone meant so much. How she awkwardly tried dancing then ran off stage made me tear up each time. I worked the lighting , it was fantastic. It ruined the movie for me because the play was so good. The soundtrack and the way the prince was written trumps the movie so much. Okay I know this is a love song but imagine an older brother saying this to a selectivity mute younger sister and he's trying to help her with the illness
