Tony was the best Commentator of his era. People can dump on him all they want to. His voice and charismatic tone could make terrible matches fun. I'll never forget him opening up with "This is World Championship Wrestling!" [Pyros and Fireworks Exploding with the WCW Logo on the Turnertron] Tony was a Soldier in the Monday Night Wars and followed what he was supposed to do from the top on down. Call him a "Tool" if you want to. If your boss told you to do something. You do it. Just like the Mankind fiasco. I seriously doubt it had anything to do with him saying what he was told to. If anything people wanted to see the title change. It wasn't that they were pissed at Tony. Tony was a company man. And I appreciated the enthusiasm he brought to WCW even towards the end where WCW was trash. I still watched it to the very end. Tony was the utmost professional doing his job. I very much appreciated what he brought to WCW.
He didn't deliberately disrespect him. Not intentionally either. I don't think he disrespected Monsoon at all. He just didn't want someone breathing down his neck over mentioning a NON WCW Wrestler over the air. Even if he did pass at the time. They did go ahead and mention it tho. As for the heat he took over the Heenan fiasco. He has taken blame for it. Im not even sure of the root cause. Heenan was fired by WCW. They told Tony that Heenan threatened to sue him. (Shiavonne) And was ordered not to talk to him. Again Tony being a company guy and following orders didn't. He has since said in many interviews after. He should've called him He takes blame for it. Nothing was intentional. In terms of him disrespecting Heenan.
This is quite an interesting sement to watch. I have followed tony Schiavone's career when he was commentating in the old WCW during the 80's. I never thought I would see Tony in this kind of light. What a surprise for me!
Schiovane is the man! Love the Pamela Paulshock shout-out (although only 10% of the audience probably caught that). I would love a Schiovane/Tenay booth with west doing the backstage interviews, and a 3-man booth for PPVs.
Tony Schiavone was a commentator in the WWF with Jesse "The Body" Ventura. Tony and Jesse were commentators for the WWF Summerslam 1989 and the WWF Royal Rumble 1990 pay-per-view wrestling events.
Such a great heel turn... You would never expect it from Tony... I would love to see him get back on the mic again in the wrestling business... WWE, TNA, ROH, CZW even... it doesnt matter... he is, in my opinion, one of the best commentators to have been around in the last 10 years...
i heard that one of the first things hogan wanted to do when he got to tna was have mike tenay replaced as head commentator, dont know who he wanted to replace him with but i must admit i was starting to like the heel don west and mike tenay team, it reminded me of king and jr with west winding tenay up all the time, but then they went and got tazz in.
All great play by play announcers mentioned. But the best play by play announcer in wrestling today is Michael Cole. It's that very reason why he's on Raw now and Jim Ross is now on Smackdown.
@Koolazzmike it might have had to do with wanting to have a uniqueness so people wouldnt associate them as a direct wcw copy. tenay was never the main wcw commentator so hiring him, who i think is a good commentator, was a good idea. but if they'd grabbed schiavone and people turned on the product for the first time, they'd immediately recognise him as the voice of wcw. dont get me wrong i think he's great and id love to see him in tna but i can imagine something of that sort coming across.
I always liked Tony Schiavone the best anyway. I just wish some organization would have picked him up after WCW went under. I liked him the best because he was loyal. He started with the NWA and Crockett, went to the WWE for a year and came back to WCW to the very end.
its good to hear the passion in Tony's voice again he lost that during the WCW days with all the bullshit going on, he could of been as good as JR or the late great Gordon Solie and a better to his contemperaries.
I have never seen this or heard of this in my life. Mike Tenay was amazing in WCW, he did all the research on the mexian guys and educated the wrestling fans on the lucha style. He knew names for moves everyone eles would call "a great manuever". Tony Shaviavone has defenatly payed his dues and is a great announcer himself and it's sad and unjust that he wasn't picked up. Respect to Scott Hudson too. Anyone know how this storyline progressed and thanks for uploading.
The best announcer was David Crockett of the old nwa mid-atlantic region. He made every wrestler look good like Ric Flair,The 4 Horsemen,Dusty Rhodes,Magnum TA,The Road Warriors and "The Ragin"Manny Fernandez.
wow way different than the tony schiavone i remember from his wwf run as a play by play man in the late 1980s...and regardless of what tony says paul bearer rules!!!
I've always felt Tony Schiavone was one of the best announcers and I've always felt that he was the voice of the NWA in the 80's. I'd really wish this was between Schiavone and Jim Ross.
I miss ol' Tony Skee-a-vone! I'd love to read a book by him on the death of WCW. Seems like everyone else had an opinion. I'd like to hear from someone who was there from the early days.
And what's even more hilarious is how Russo has taken credit for the WWF's success during the Attitude Era, saying he wad the creative mind behind the great storylines. And let's not forget making both himself & David Arquette the WCW champion.
The woman's name is Moon Shadow here's a little info on her. Total Nonstop Action Wrestling has used several of Goldy Locks' songs, most notably the tracks "Take It Out On You" for Alissa Flash, "Dodging Bullets" for Trinity, "Broken" for Tara, "I Tease, U Touch" for Brooke Tessmacher, "Hands of Wicked" for Winter, "Forever" for Thea Trinidad and "The Man In Me" for TNA Entertainment President Dixie Carter.
that was intense..i never seen that before..i never seen that rugged look on tony and the mouth and attitude on him..i was glued to this moniter watchin this..wow i like tony shavoine and miss him he was cool..but damn that was totally randoim seeing this..thanks for posting
"You know you make Pamela Paulshock look like Diane Sawyer." WHOA! Way to go Schiavone. If he had that kind of razor wit, Vince might have kept him after the buy out.
I remember talking to Schiavone at a crockett show 1986 in charlotte at ringside he was nice too me i asked him the theme song for the midnight express he told me the next day i went and bought it.
When Tony responded by saying "bologna" I almost died of laughter. But anyway he was always my favorite commontator. Its kind of sad to see this kind of "wrestling" show. It's much too "real" for my taste. Too much emphesis on "shoots" and not enough on quality wrestling and characters. People forget that wrestling isn't gymnastics. I don't care how athletic you are or how many flips you do it doesn't make you a good wrestler. I miss the old days when Tony was just a commentator.
i disagree to a certain level. Joey Styles was and is the best i've heard. I havent heard enough Gordon Solley to judge but Schiavone was pretty good at calling a match. I know im in the minority here, but i enjoyed him. Tennay is aweful. he is the main reason i dont watch TNA. actually the only reason. does he still do the play by play?
Before wrestling became main stream...Tony was one of the best announcers along with David Crockett. They had tons of emotion in their matches when they called the Midnights vs RnR...and Flair vs Rhodes..Once the magic was lost...So was the entusiatic play by play of the matches...Joey Styles was the last of the great announcers...Top 5... Gordon Solie,Lance Russel,Joey Styles,Tony Schivanne, Jim Ross (midsouth days)
proof that not even wcw/tna knows how to book there commentator booth wwe has a heel commentator a face commentator and maybe a tweener commentator always
Tony Schiavone was a good announcer. I like this. This is good because it has an element of truth to it. Tony is doing good for himself working for the Atlanta Braves Radio Network.
Schiavone works for the georgia bulldog radio, i am a student at WKU, and we played Georgia last Tuesday, and Schiavone was there, he looks weird with his beard.
Tony Schiavone said a lot of things like "This is the greatest night in the history of our great Sport!" and "Folks, we're outta time..." But nothing can top this gem: "Fans, if you're even thinking about changing the channel to our competition, do not. We understand that Mick Foley, who wrestled here at one time as Cactus Jack, is gonna win their World title. Ha! That's gonna put some butts in the seats!"
Tony was the best Commentator of his era. People can dump on him all they want to. His voice and charismatic tone could make terrible matches fun. He is still currently working in Atlanta. I say he's living here. Doing radio work for the Braves & sports talk 92.9 the game.
Tony absolutely had a great voice to be a commentator
Who was dumping on Tony ?
Percy rules, just look at his face during this whole thing. Priceless.
Would be sick if Kane came out and chokeslammed Tony and Mike.
I like this Schiavone. He should come back to TNA, they need a heel announcer, and hes suprisingly good at it.
This is quite an interesting sement to watch. I have followed tony Schiavone's career when he was commentating in the old WCW during the 80's. I never thought I would see Tony in this kind of light. What a surprise for me!
Yeah. He's the morning sports guy on WSB in Atlanta and WDUN in nearby Gainesville. He's does some stuff for UGA too.
When your only idea for a heel turn is an announcer, you know you're in trouble.
I have been saying that Schiavone should be a heel commentator for TNA for the last few years now
Tony Schiavone reminded me alot of an old Arn Anderson shoot. A dead ringer for him.
Schiovane is the man!
Love the Pamela Paulshock shout-out (although only 10% of the audience probably caught that).
I would love a Schiovane/Tenay booth with west doing the backstage interviews, and a 3-man booth for PPVs.

the signs in the back when Vince Russo came out. Hilarious!!! "Who cares?" and "The Non-stop action has offically STOPPED"
LOL!!!
Scott Hudson also was the ring announcer for WEW as well!!
You are correct sir! Tony did play by play for the Gwinnett Braves in their first season in Lawrenceville, Georgia as Atlanta's AAA-level affiliate.
"The Non-Stop Action Has Stopped" LMMFAO! Best sign ever
please bring Tony Schiavone back to TNA.... PLEASE TNA... he is a great commentator.
Tony was always a great commentator. But this. Wow! This was before I really watched TNA.
tony is a legend... hes right there with mean gene, jim ross and solie..this just shows how talente d he really is and master of the wrestling biz..!
Wow had no idea Schiavone was once in TNA. He looks so different with the beard
It would have been hiiiilarious if Tony was drunk as hell doing this. It kinda sounds like he is. I'm enjoying this alot!
i heard that one of the first things hogan wanted to do when he got to tna was have mike tenay replaced as head commentator, dont know who he wanted to replace him with but i must admit i was starting to like the heel don west and mike tenay team, it reminded me of king and jr with west winding tenay up all the time, but then they went and got tazz in.
"Is your name Goldilox - who's been sleeping in my bed"? HAHAHA that was hilarious
Haha, what an awesome segment!!
I'd pay to see a Schiavone-Tenay match! (not much though)
All great play by play announcers mentioned. But the best play by play announcer in wrestling today is Michael Cole. It's that very reason why he's on Raw now and Jim Ross is now on Smackdown.
Hahahaha I love the "Who Cares" and "The 'Non-Stop' Action Has Officially Stopped" signs. Awesome in a can.
Tony Schiavone , Gordon Solie & Jim Ross are the commentators in pro wrestling !
damn i like this Tony Schiavone...the heel version..he needs to come to TNA or WWE as a heel commentator (we need more heels)
Heh, you always had to figure Schiavone would cut a promo like this sooner or later.
wow, that was more entertaining a two hour broadcast of TNA these days, this was actually really good
I always liked Tony Schiavone the best anyway.
Heenan should've moderated Tenay-Tony
I have never seen this or heard of this in my life. Mike Tenay was amazing in WCW, he did all the research on the mexian guys and educated the wrestling fans on the lucha style. He knew names for moves everyone eles would call "a great manuever". Tony Shaviavone has defenatly payed his dues and is a great announcer himself and it's sad and unjust that he wasn't picked up. Tony < Joey Styles
i loved schiavone. one of the most underrated announcers ever. great segment too.
When you get used to hear Tony Shiavone feel sorry because everyone is so mean to Hogan in WCW 94-95, it is great to see him as a heel :)
wow thats a trip tony shciavone turning heal. ive been watching him doing commatrary for years. kinda odd seeing him turn heel.
The best announcer was David Crockett of the old nwa mid-atlantic region. He made every wrestler look good like Ric Flair,The 4 Horsemen,Dusty Rhodes,Magnum TA,The Road Warriors and "The Ragin"Manny Fernandez.
Shiavone was a great announcer for WCW. to me he was the voice of WCW like JR and Lawler are for WWE.
Tony makes an AWESOME heel...he shoulda became a manager!
Exactly on all your points and I love that one of the fans actually had a sign that said Who Cares right when Russo came in.
wow way different than the tony schiavone i remember from his wwf run as a play by play man in the late 1980s...and regardless of what tony says paul bearer rules!!!
Nice sign: The "nonstop action" has stopped. So true.
I've always felt Tony Schiavone was one of the best announcers and I've always felt that he was the voice of the NWA in the 80's. I'd really wish this was between Schiavone and Jim Ross.
Wow, i cant belive i never saw this ...please bring back tony as heel
I miss ol' Tony Skee-a-vone! I'd love to read a book by him on the death of WCW. Seems like everyone else had an opinion. I'd like to hear from someone who was there from the early days.
@5spooner I can imagine the commentary.
This will be the greatest Raw in the history in our sport!!
I don't know how many years ago this was. I'm here watching this in 2018. Any one else?????
And what's even more hilarious is how Russo has taken credit for the WWF's success during the Attitude Era, saying he wad the creative mind behind the great storylines. And let's not forget making both himself & David Arquette the WCW champion.
@DimeraFan28 Happy New Year to yourself as well. If you think that Michael Cole has always been a second rate announcer, Give Me A Hell Yeah.
Schiavone is too good for ECW.
That was a great interview. I'm assuming it was during one of the weekly NWA-TNA pay per views. Wish the crowd would have been more into it, though.
It sucked
Yea. Samoa Joe by himself proved that at Final Resolution 2007. They could of gone a long way with Joe with that shoot he did.
oh my god, this is like watching WCW all over again.
The woman's name is Moon Shadow here's a little info on her. A feud between two announcers?! THIS IS AWESOME!
that was intense..i never seen that before..i never seen that rugged look on tony and the mouth and attitude on him..i was glued to this moniter watchin this..wow i like tony shavoine and miss him he was cool..but damn that was totally randoim seeing this..thanks for posting
Which actually helped the WWF, which was awesome.
I wish TNA had an ON-Demand channel that could air old TNA weekly ppvs
I wish Tony was a permanent commentator on TNA
"when was schivone on tna"? Hell, when was Paul Bearer on tna?
I never saw either of these guys there.
I know im in the minority here, but i enjoyed him. Tennay is aweful. he is the main reason i dont watch TNA. actually the only reason. does he still do the play by play?
That sign at 6:29 said it all lol - "the nonstop action has officially stopped"
Before wrestling became main stream...Tony was one of the best announcers along with David Crockett. They had tons of emotion in their matches when they called the Midnights vs RnR...and Flair vs Rhodes..Once the magic was lost...So was the entusiatic play by play of the matches...Joey Styles was the last of the great announcers...Top 5... Gordon Solie,Lance Russel,Joey Styles,Tony Schivanne, Jim Ross (midsouth days)
Come on, you give them too much credit. This is 'the new WCW' we're talking about.
Wow this is as badass as Tony would ever be. WOW!!!
Truly the greatest night in the history of our sport.
He now does sports at a Dayton OH radio station
tony was a heel already, in real life that is
When I saw this, I thought tony schiavone and Paul Bearer was in TNA?
this is the best shoot promo I've ever seen
Russo needs to be a heel manager...why hasn't he brought back the manager angles...he could be the greatest heel manager since Bobby Heenan
proof that not even wcw/tna knows how to book there commentator booth
wwe has a heel commentator a face commentator and maybe a tweener commentator always
this is brilliant! he looks younger than he did in any of his days in wcw.
gotta love those signs from the crowd.
I believe Tony is a baseball announcer on the radio in Atlanta now.
He does baseball pre-game shows on some Atlanta radio station for the Braves.
Yea really Tony was great. That voice bring back memories. Why doesn't TNA higher him?
TNA rather have boring Mike Tenay doing the play by play.
Tony Schiavone was a good announcer. I like this. This is good because it has an element of truth to it. Tony is doing good for himself working for the Atlanta Braves Radio Network.
early 2003 before TNA had regular TV. They were on weekly PPVs at the time.
A LOT of people liked Joey Styles, too.
This was a really good segment.
The sign @ 6:21 "Who Cares?" pretty much sums up this promo!
To the left of the guy with the "Who Cares?" sign is someone holding a sign that reads, "Total Nonstop Action has officially stopped." Hilarious!
hey billygrimmuwo i agree tna tony schiavone i'm behind you man i wish we had a petition to get him back he was great
wasnt he the same guy who announced and commentator with mike tenay during the wcw nitro?
I can't believe I never seen this before thats crazy, this shit blows my mind
can't believe nobody confiscated the "Who cares?" sign in the shot!
Schiavone works for the georgia bulldog radio, i am a student at WKU, and we played Georgia last Tuesday, and Schiavone was there, he looks weird with his beard.
great arguing i love it lol
Wish I couldve seen this when it happened....this is great stuff
That segment was very entertaining
I've never heard Bobby The Brain say even a nice syllable about Tony Schiavone.
This is an awesome shoot!
truley the greatest heel turn in the history of our sport!
Tony Schiavone said a lot of things like
"This is the greatest night in the history of our great Sport!" and "Folks, we're outta time..."
But nothing can top this gem: "Fans, if you're even thinking about changing the channel to our competition, do not. We understand that Mick Foley, who wrestled here at one time as Cactus Jack, is gonna win their World title. Ha! That's gonna put some butts in the seats!"
Heel Tony Shiavone: Soon to be honorary commentator of Immortal!
