People need to bond with people other ways other than, "I need to find someone who also likes gaming!" it doesn't work out all the time. You need to get out of your bubble sometimes and try to connect with people through other means.
Well most women who aren't geeks treat the guys they are with who are geeks as if their geekdom is a bug they put up with if everything else works. Sure you can't base an entire relationship on liking the same movie, tv show or game. But it's so much easier when you're in that small talk phase if you can talk about the things you love, and get their perspective on it. It also gives you a decent guideline without even knowing that much about them. I'm able to read a woman who has a hobby of her own way quicker than women who don't really have a passion for something. It doesn't have to be my passion, I don't care about clothes but I really liked a woman a while back who was a fashion designer. She had actually started to get in the business and now recently had her first line and successful showcase. We ended up only being great friends after we had dated for a bit but my health came too much in the way. But she told me she felt freaked out and nervous by me in the beginning. She felt the feedback I gave her early on would only be possible if I knew her well. I just didn't have any problems connecting the dots of what she liked to talk about, and what her opinions were.

I actually wrote this comment a long time ago before I entered college and needless to say I went through a lot of ups and downs dating. I eventually took online to writing stories and talking with fellow geeks about common interests where I made friends with my now current girlfriend of 2 years. We stayed in on and off communication as friends because we did not think online dating would work and also just had our own lives but eventually after both of us going through ups and downs in our own relationships I asked her if she’d like to try. Needless to say fast forward and she and I have traveled to meet each other and have gone through a few states together in the U.S before I finally decided to ask her to move in with me. Now we are living together and I can say that even though she drives me crazy that us 2 geeks have been making it work and are happy that our interests brought us together. Sorry for the long story just figured I’d share!
