That sounded like quite the adventurous experiment to undertake. Isn’t it baffling how hard it is to live a simple and minimalist life? How much extra time for planning is needed, where to shower, how to refrigerate your groceries&beverages, where to wash and dry your laundry, … things that are just standard in a “normal” life. I haven’t finished the video yet but I’m glad you did it for 5 months and didn’t give up after a week ☺️

One thing when you are traveling solo, and you will have to face your worst omens. Any hiker who has gone on massive solo hiking trips will tell you this.. Although you are not hiking what you are experiencing is similar. But what comes out at the end of your journey is a much more grounded you. So continue on your special journey and you will continue to find yourself. Cheers and continue to keep us updated.

One observation was particularly interesting that I'd never thought about: basically, that our routines allow us to not feel too overwhelmed and mentally drained, and that allows us to better handle stepping well out of our comfort zone when it is needed. In my case, and probably most people's, routines tend to make you feel stuck in a loop where there's not much change going on. But, going forward, I think maybe the knowledge that being in the middle of a "routine" lifestyle may actually be the best time to incorporate a major change-could be motivating to me to do exactly that.
Also, since I'm a pedant (apparently even when listening to someone whose mother tongue isn't English), I'll point out that the phrase is "sneaking suspicion", not "sneaky suspicion".

I lived in Japan for 4.5 years and for one of them I 'planned' a week-long holiday in Hokkaido during the summer. I wanted it to be as "go as the wind takes you" as I could so I'd only booked the first night in a hotel in one part of the island (Hakodate), the last night at a hotel in another part of the island (Sapporo, I think) and a 7-day train pass. The 'plan' was to just go as far as I could in a day on the train (taking stops if there was something interesting I wanted to see) and then looking for accommodation at a hotel in whatever town I ended up at in the evening. It was pretty reckless if I'm honest as there were at least 2 nights where I couldn't get accommodation for the night and just slept rough. But, I learned things by doing the trip (like you) and am grateful for the experience - even if I'd do things differently/plan more were I to do it again.

When I was about the age you are now I spent a year travelling independently and came back wondering what I’d learned, and if it was worth while. Over the next 20+ years It’s amazing the number of times I benefited from the lessons I didn’t even realise I was learning at the time. And so will you. Well done. Keep pushing on with your endeavours, You’re learning even more than you realise. I stumbled across your videos while I’m researching for a holiday in Japan with my family and I’ve watched most of them.

I can so relate to this.
Though I didn't take off for 5 months, I've done it for a couple around Europe during 2020 and have done many trips since and before having been to every continent except Antarctica.
I learned having a super set in stone plan doesn't work for me, but I needed to have it planned as to where I'd sleep. I kept moving and didn't have to worry or spend more than I would like or had to due to poor planning. I'd let my days happen because I'd see so many cool places and realized I'd get to see these cool landmarks we all know about, and find hidden gems or otherwise because I was willing to be flexible.
I've met cool people all around the world, and though I'm not a talker and introverted, I was willing to go to dinner with new people and there's always a chance to reconnect another time.
It's all about perspective and our adventure and journeys will teach us many things if we allow it to.

A little late to find this video but thank you for posting :) I did 5 weeks on the road via motorcycle in the western USA and came to the same conclusion with regards to camping... 'Go with the flow' was stressful! Not knowing where you will sleep can be really worrisome when it starts to get dark and you *still* don't have a place to go. We ended up deciding that at lunch time we would look at our travel progress and find a place to sleep either on public land or sometimes a hotel. I like the idea of plotting out a few days in advance and sticking to it! Thanks again!

Such an inspiration! I admire your courage and mindset. Habits that I am able to take with me wherever I go would be writing, and reading.
I've recently began my journey towards Japan. I'm studying the language at University and am looking into the different possibilities for, someday, move there full or part time. It's actually really hard as I faced so much uncertainty this year. Would I be able to do this? Am I to old for this kind of change? (Just turned 29)
My journey so far has all been about stability within myself as I've had a rough childhood with many telling me that I'm not capable of anything. To get out of these destructive thoughts has taken me years and years. And I'm not quite there yet, but still I've come a long way.
And while I continue on my journey I'm looking forward to follow yours. がんばってください!

Hi Jazz ! I've just discovered you thanks to TH-cam algorithm and I’m so grateful ! With my soon we went on “Tabi” last Kouyou for momigigari. This is exactly how we felt. It was not 5 months but we also experienced the same as you. Routines are mandatory and some time we were asking ourselves “what are we doing here ?”. But finally we learned SO much. And my son was not the same anymore after this trip. We did it partially because I wanted to recover from a long period of health issue that kept me far from my son. So he needed to see me being able to live again. But obviously It was more me discovering how much he grown up and became great while he had to assume the situation. “Tabi” helps growing. I really think every single person should go for it at least once. It reveals oneself.
@Lila from France. (we put a few videos on our TH-cam if you are curious)
Thank you for sharing your experiences.

    That's a great project! 😃✨
The power of your action is also amazing.
Trip in Japan I did a little research.
Japan ranks 61st in the world in land area.
    6th place including territorial waters.
Furthermore, the depth of the ocean, that is, the volume of the ocean, ranks 4th in the world.
Even though it is ranked 61st in terms of land area, although it is on par with the European countries of Germany, Finland, Norway, and Italy, it is larger and wider than them.
In the familiar Mercator projection, it shrinks as you go to the equator, and as you go to the top and bottom poles, the poles become the length of the sides of the rectangle, so it becomes extremely wide and elongated.
So, while it may look small on a map, a trip to Japan actually takes you through a vast area.
Moreover, it is a truly miraculously beautiful country that stretches from south to north, is affected by warm currents and cold currents, varies from tropical to extremely cold, and has four distinct seasons due to the tilt of the earth's axis.
So, your idea of living in Japan itself as your home while moving freely is truly wonderful. It's not something I can do in the middle of the day.
However, sleeping outdoors can damage your body, so please be careful.
In addition, women can live outdoors because Japan is a safe country, but even so, in the countryside these days, bears appear and l can't say no there are bad people.
So, please continue your journey with caution.
I look forward to your nice share😀✨

Oh ya, english rhythm is called the shwa and is the reason why english is kindof simple and favored as an easy language to learn, also the variability of the syllables (french say it sounds like chewing gum language, as opposed to a rhythm based language which is machine gun speak lol) with the shwa make it have a higher sound complexity in a shorter space so less words necessary generally to convey same meaning. ... For conservation, I think about that a lot, I am interested in robots that do multicultural gardening, because machines like power stations, wind energy, motorbikes, become smaller and lighter as time goes on, and more capable, and tractors will ASAP i hope become small enough for garden style farms to produce hundreds of types of food, so peeps wont need to plastic wrap them. unfortuantely intelligent people do humanoid robot research which is stupid and hyper intel people like me do conservation and global development style research like reasearching the garden robots, unfortunately I need to work on my video skills to promot my garden robot research better, because with local food producation ability, that's an 11 trillion industry that will change to a far greener way, the biggest producter of household waste is fresh fruit and veg made using factory methods and i wanna change that.
