    set up cost was in the 30's. ReDriven from Canada set it up with a full package. Very happy with it. They are actually people that put their time and money into developing a safe and amazing machine that actually works very well. Soon you will see their controller in every wind turbine company.

    Why do you have two Invertors ? and how fast is the response for the yawing system ?

  • @mingosuzuki

    that panel is actually a transfer switch that acts like a big shut off switch. So its basically a disconnect switch. We use them for hot tubs, air condition units and various outdoors uses. And yes its in Canada

    A few years back, windmills for private use in Maine, USA were a loosing proposition even when you sold the excess to the power company. And yes, that meant throwing money away every day. A factor in that was the high interest rate the banks were paying in those days. Today it would be a better deal. I think you did a great job on your system. Any other videos of it?

    cool stuff, must have been expensive but the world needs more people like you.

  • @fetymann
    @fetymann 16 ปีที่แล้ว

    So you're running off your own elec and turning the meter backwards with whatever excess you aren't using? Are they buying it from you? So when the wind isn't blowing you are back to using the utility, correct? Do you use any sort of storage for the power or can you only run off it when the wind is blowing? I'm still trying to get an understanding of the different types if setups. I've seen some where they charge up deep cycle batteries and then run their shop off a 2-4k watt inverter. thanks

    No Tax rebate for me. There's no rebates here Yet!!! Where are you at? You should post a video of your turbine, I would like to see it. What size is it. You went from a $300.00 bill to $30.00??? Wow, that's awsome. Keep pumping it!!! Over here the hydro company likes it so far. I had to get it inspected because im feeding back to the grid... no battery for me. I love this thing.

    Please can you tell me, how deep is the concreted anchor hole for the footplate of the tower and how wide? How tall is your tower?
    Thanks! Great video

    Not sure about cina... But this turbine is from Redriven A canadian company that is taking off reall fast. They are based in Cornwall, Ontario. Near Toronto. But they service all over the world!!!!

    Hi Ming,
    Has the turbine ever ran at a maximum 10kw? I couldn't help noticing that the invertors power output was 1.2 kw each.

  • @xzur69
    @xzur69 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    just for those who are unaware the inverter feeds power on the same freq back to the power company the way it works is like a biggy bank IF you make more than you use it goes back to the power company and yes they pay you for it BUT at the straight rate.... they add taxes fuel charges etc etc thier KWH may be for ex 0.12 cents from them to you and 0.07 cents from you to them.

  • @mingosuzuki
    @mingosuzuki  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    Also the power that the turbine produces has to be stored in batteries or grid. so when you need the power its there, and when you don't need the power it will be stored. your kettle doesnt run 24hrs does it?

  • @mingosuzuki
    @mingosuzuki  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @coggy5 You are right about not placing it near tall structures due to turbulance. I did place it there because that is my property line and i also placed it behind the garage because the prevailing here is from south west. And that direction is from the lake and there's no trees all open. The only direction that i would have a provlem with would be winds from the East , My house is tall enough that it could cause a problem but very rare we get winds from the east.

    @donwinkey,
    That's what I'm curious to know... If your electrical usage is less than you produce, do you get paid or do you only get a credit towards future usage?

  • @ApolloWasReal
    @ApolloWasReal 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @erik2be I have a PV system so I'm familiar with them. Some of the PV charge controllers used to reduce panel power production when you don't have a load for it can also be programmed for use with wind turbines. You can't just open-circuit the turbine like you can a PV panel because it could fly apart. Instead the controller connects a "diversion load", usually an electric water heater element, to dissipate the excess wind power.

  • @SinisterSports
    @SinisterSports 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    There are a few companies that produce highly efficient wind turbines. I've done a lot of research and, yes, you can get a small turbine like this to turn back your meter so I believe what he's saying in this video.

  • @ApolloWasReal
    @ApolloWasReal 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    What do you use for a diversion load in case you lose your grid connection? When this happens in a PV system you simply disconnect the solar panels and there's no harm done. A wind turbine running without load could overspeed and fly apart. Do you have some sort of resistive heating element into which you can dump the turbine output if necessary?

    wouldn't it be a good idea to pull the top pins and retract your rams? if those shafts begin rusting you can tear up the hydraulic seals.

  • @vze49qxi1

    I am interested in this option, but have couple of questions. Where did you purchase this system from, and who did installation for you? Thank you.

  • @mingosuzuki
    @mingosuzuki  15 ปีที่แล้ว

    thanks for your comment regarding the tower. They actually have a 110 foot hydraulic tower now. The METER, the meter in the video is the old one. And yes the numbers did turn back, very slowly, but yes it did turn back. I do have the new "Net Meter" installed now and it has two counters. One is a usage meter and then it flashes to the push back meter.

    @brodds36:
    I haven't done any math for the different sized units, but I agree with your reply to skydive9000...even if an appliance consumes 5kw, it's the big picture. The turbine is up there 24/7 and hopefully it spins most of the time so it is almost always feeding power back into the grid.
    The 3kw for 5 minutes that it takes to power the kettle can be re-supplied back into the grid over a short period of time.

    I think you may get better sustain and less
    long term maintenance from a barrel-type
    instead of the fan-type blade.
    No need to swivel with wind changes
    Easier to add others next to it if needed

  • @klungoo
    @klungoo 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is awesome! I'm really jealous right now. I'm very ignorant to this stuff, can you store power if you have a surplus? I'm assuming that your house automatically switches to and from the power grid depending on the wind??? just curious. Again, very cool :)

  • @coggy5
    @coggy5 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you had placed the turbine well away from that garage you would have got smoother air-flow into the turbine and increased it's efficiency. Never place them anywhere near a building, other tall structures, poles, trees or other wind blockages. They produce vortices which will divert the winds kinetic energy and add turbulance and vibrations into your turbine.

    Thanks for the reply, thats fine I just thought it was going close to full speed as it seems to be rotating fast for a large turbine. About the kettle, no it doesnt run 24hrs but for the time its running it needs a full 3kw for the 2minutes or so & the figures didnt add up but thats okay. You know the facts about the turbine I dont Thanks.

    The output on the display at 1:46 shows a power output of 1139W if we say its 1200W and there are two inverters the output of this turbine is about 2400W. My electric kettle requires 3kW during operation therefore this wind turbine couldnt power my kettle never mind my house!
    It looks like a very wind day there and I dont think the turbine is designed to increase its RPM to generate more power.
    Comments please ???

    no. 10 kw means you can power appliances with a total of 10 kw maximum, for example just to give you an idea, your tv is 3kw, your aircon 5 kw, your lighting is 2 kw, sum it all, its 10kw, then those appliances can be powered by this generator. 10 kw is capacity of the gen. in 1 months you can use max 10kwx720hrs= 7200kwhr, u have 2410kwhr you said, then this gen exceed what you need, really good generator is it? just hope that wind is always good enough:D

  • @ApolloWasReal
    @ApolloWasReal 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @alexdrudigmail I don't have a wind turbine so I don't know. All I know is that I've read that my PV controller can also be used as a diversion controller for a wind turbine, i.e., it can operate in shunt mode whereby it connects a resistor to the source when the voltage gets too high because the source is generating more power than the load and batteries can absorb.

I can buy a generator for 2000 to 3000 and it would last me foe ever!!! And if you are on off grid. what happens if the turbine breaks down? You should allways be connected to the grid

    skydive. at 1:46 to 2:01 the Wind speed is between 3 m/s to 4.1m/s. Do you know what that means? The wind is only 10 to 15 Kilometers per hour. Thats a breeze!! The RPM goes faster with more wind. This thing is designed to reach full power at 12 m/s thats 43 kiloneters. if you think that this turbine can't power your home than i suggest you come by and check it out your self. if i can't prove to you that it does then i'll pay for your travel. Also....

  • @mingosuzuki

    Fetymann!!! You live in an Apartment!! All you need is maybe a 500W little turbine. To give you an Idea why i bought this unit I'm going to explain very briefly. My House is 3800 square feet of LIVING space. My electric bill is 400 to 500 a MONTH. Do the math, and then tell me how long wil it take to pay it off If it will produce 75% or better of the power that i need. P.S. I have no Gas. Over here Im paying .11cents or better per kilowatt with delivery charges.

    More money than average hydro usage ? Not at all. Total cost for a system like this is an average of $3500 maybe less if you do alot of the work and if you can find a good bargain for one. I use to spend an average of $400 to $500 a month on Hydro. Average person spends roughly $150 to $200 tops? So $35000 divide by $175 = 200 monts. 200 monts= 16 years.

    1/2 acre lot? Mine is not much bigger than that. Its 3/4. Scam? Def not. These things do creat power!!!! there's no dought. THey don't creat full power all the time. So when you are considering a turbine make sure you get a good size for the amount of wind. The bigger you go the more power it creats during low winds. My wind speed here is rated at an average 5 to 7 meters per second

    Its silly to compare the current cost of a wind turbine to the future cost of electricity. Who's electrical bill has remand flat over the past 5 years. I myself have see a 15% annual increase in the cost per kilo watt hour...figure that into your calculation ans the solar or wind turbine your looking at gets a lot cheaper a lot faster.
