My problem was an exact copy...found glass in filter area and then when I removed the pump there was another piece there as well. Thank you! Saved me buying a new pump and all the hassle of getting a service call

Saved myself a bunch of time by using a shop vac to get the water out. Took about a minute and a half - no basting necessary.
This was the answer to my problems. Thank you!

OMG thanks for this. Searching all over and figured would need a new pump. Gave up for a while and came back to it this afternoon and your video was the first to pop up. THIS WORKED!!!! Found a small screw and a piece of plastic. Ran a rinse then a drain and perfection. THANK YOU!!! I managed to get it fixed before the hubs comes home from work.

This was so helpful. I had this exact problem. A piece of glass the size of my fingernail was jammed in the impeller and stopping the whole machine. This video was perfect in showing me how to safely take the thing apart and find the piece of glass and as I write this comment I am listening to my dishwasher happily humming along and cleaning the dishes. Thanks so much!

Our extended warranty on this model expired 1 month ago and my wife and promised each other dinner out if we could jointly fix this. We did! A fantastically clear, step-by-step approach to solving a problem that we would have previously called serviceman for. Videoing this must have been a bit tricky but the details were perfect. A huge thanks!

Thank you! I mistakenly believed my pump's impeller was working properly since it discharged some water, and sometimes it would even discharge all of it. But most of the time it would give a couple of squirts and quit. Being at the end of my rope, I did as you demonstrated and disassembled the impeller, and lo and behold! It was full of toothpicks and bits of fibre and other rubbish. It's running like a champ again. Cheers!

Hey Scott the Fixit guy, Thanks sooo much! I followed your instructions, found some glass beside the pump but the worst was the hose to the sink; completely blocked! Now I know why our dishes weren't coming out clean for a while now. I hiked up my Wetvac to the 'blow' end, blocked the rest of the crevice tool with my hand and blew the junk out of the hose! Hooked the dishwasher back up and is working like a charm! You saved me days of manual dish washing and a sh#*load of money! So I put 20$ into your coffee fund. Cheers!

It is Christmas morning, and the dishwasher totally stopped working. Didn't completely drain, and lights on front were not working. Didn't make any sounds. Followed these instructions exactly and found a shard of glass (from a Christmas Eve wine glass?) caught in the impeller...precisely like in this video. DW now working perfectly. Christmas Day is saved! Thank you!

AMAZING dude!! #1)no clogged filter #2) Checked impeller housing, no issue #3) Checked the long clear drainage hose, no issue #4) Scum buildup in the black pvc piping nozzle end, that juts out from the sink drain for the dishwasher attachement. Simply passed a screwdriver into the nozzle to remove scum. We are good to go again :) Problem solved! Keep up the amazing video, you are the man!

Just want to say a big thank-you for posting this concise and accurate video. Based on your information I was able to get to the pump (- didn't even have to take it off) by removing the drain hose as you demonstrated and found an elastic band wrapped around the impeller. My Kitchenaid Dishwasher stopped draining water and was leaving a tub full of water. Checking the Hose under sink showed nothing. I have a wet/dry Shop vacume that enabled me to get all the water out of the Diswasher tub and get things dry really quick. then took the steps shown here and found a piece of trim from a pot in the Pump impeller preventing it from Spinning. Dishwasher seems to be doing fine now....thank you Scott.

  • @snowysnowcones

Thank you for this video! In my case removing the pump was the most difficult part (took about an hour). I had to apply quite a bit of pressure at 2:56 to get the plastic to release. In fact, it actually just removed the plastic housing, then the motor just slid out (no need to turn counter clockwise in my case). Also, I didn’t find any debris until AFTER I put everything back. A small piece of glass must’ve come out when I detached the hose. Had I seen it, I probably could’ve saved myself the hassle of taking off the motor. Oh well, at least now it’s clean.

  • @ydnewnine2160
    @ydnewnine2160 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

A THOUSAND THANKS! This was SO HELPFUL, as I have the exact same dishwasher. It's a joy to be able to access problems without having to entirely remove dishwasher from alcove. This easy-to-follow video and your narration are a GODSEND for someone like me to follow along -- I have very low-level mechanical ability/fix-it skills, and when my spouse ridiculously claims the clog isn't from the drain, but instead is caused by the way dishes are loaded or washed, I can rejoice in not having to ask for help that might take him weeks for follow-thru. Now, instead of a puzzling maze of gadgetry below the dishwasher, I can see where the drain hoses are and know how to check for properly operating drain parts. The feeling that I actually fixed an appliance for the first time in my life is just WOW! A holiday donation is on my list. U rock!!!

THANK YOU!!! I cannot thank you enough! While trying to avoid Covid-19 and care for my medically complicated, high-risk family, our dishwasher stopped working. The chance to avoid a service call saved me money and potential disease exposure! Unlike others, I found not glass but an assortment of random debris including hair. I have no clue how the spindle that holds the impeller blade became so encased in hair. Using a dental tool it took me 1.5 hrs. to remove the hair from the spindle. Afterward, after reattaching the drain tube, I realized that it's a good idea to pour a small amount of water into the dishwasher to check for leakage before trying to run a normal dishwashing load. (I realized this after I realized that the hose clamp wasn't in the right spot.)

@@QuickAndEasy5MinuteAppliance Hi. So I was able to get as far as removing the drain hose to check for debris and look into the pump "outlet" (it was clear) and spin the impeller. I was not able to remove the pump as my model is a bit different. (KDFE104DSS4). My issue may be "normal". There is about an inch to 1.5 of an inch of water in the drain reservoir after the dishwasher runs. The dishwasher get mold inside and I wondered if the water being in the reservoir would be a possible cause of the mold. I cleaned everything (filter, screen and dishwasher). So time will tell. Thanks for following up!

this is a very helpful video. when inspecting the impeller on the drain motor there was a build up of what appeared to be part of a rubberband wrapped tightly around the impeller driveshaft that had accumulated other debris like hair and parts of what looked like a string. got that all removed and unfortunately after putting it all back together and attempting another drain, no dice. guessing there's a block in my drain line or if there is and check valve that wasn't fully removed when installing a garbage disposal

Thanks you very much for making this video available! It was perfect as I also have a Kitchenaid (looks like the same model too) and it would not drain AND I am not mechanically included (not at ALL!). It gave me the confidence to make me try and fix it. I had trouble getting the impeller off because I couldn't locate the tab supposedly holding it in place but after some pulling and twisting I was able to get it off. At first I didn't see anything blocking the exposed hole and the impeller spun just fine. I took the opportunity to suck, then blow, then suck the opening with a shopvac. I then felt around the floor underneath the hole and found a seed. It might have fallen out when I took off the impeller. In any case, I believe it was what caused the noise I was hearing when I tried to run the drain function (this noise disappeared and the motor wasn't operating at all after a while). I put everything back together and everything worked! I celebrated the occasion of actually being able to fix something! And just before we had a party of six for dinner, so I wouldn't have to wash all those dishes by hand! So, again, thanks for giving me the motivation to fix it. It also made me decide to (in the future) buy a dishwasher that makes access to the pump easier than making your get under your machine and only give you a few inches of clearance to work with! Bosche 300 for example, has such a feature.

And I want to add that it just means one less dishwasher added to landfill somewhere because a simple seed blocked the drain pump. I wonder how many dishwashers end up in landfill because of something so simple, when the dishwasher is otherwise in good operating order.

Yep , I’m proud of you Eric😊 Such a good feeling to fix something all by yourself👍
I bet around 80% of the appliances in the landfill have simple 20.00 periphreal parts that need to be replaced

WOW. Exactly the fix I needed. One of the clips from the top rack was the culprit. Great Video. Easy to understand. Thanks so much.
