You finger the jade bracelet he bought you earlier, swallowing your unease at the touch of its cool beads. You’re driving to a party. Not just any party, either. The biggest and best this place has to offer, a gathering of CEOs and rich businessmen and anyone else who’s pockets flow freely. Of course Zhongli has been invited. His assets are uncountable, and his wallet never fails. You’re just his plus one. (Not just, he’d corrected. His guest of honor.) The car slides to a soundless stop. You glance forward, and a red light twinkles back at you through the darkness. “(Y/n).” Zhongli’s voice crafts your name in deep, honeyed tones, and your muscles tense unbidden. It’s the first he’s spoken since you climbed into the car. “Yes?” you ask, and he turns to face you. The liquid gold of his eyes is captivating, and his skin is flawless. One kiss bleeds into two, like moments strung together on a string, and you tangle your fingers in his silky hair the way you’ve always wanted to. The world blurs. The rain patters harder. The pit of your stomach is a cavern of warmth, the butterflies long incinerated in its roaring blaze. If you could bask here forever, his arms around you and the scent of lilies in your nostrils, you think you would. He pulls away. Begins to drive. The red light has passed, and you’re a hot mess slumped against the car’s center console. More than a little embarrassed, you collect yourself, brushing hair back into place with your fingers and straightening your clothing, shooting a quick glance Zhongli’s way in the midst of your cleanup. He’s smirking, the bastard. It almost makes you want to kiss him again. Unfortunately, you’ve just arrived at the venue, and it seems like a very unprofessional thing to do, especially when Zhongli opens the door for you so politely, and helps you out of the car with such elegance.
