Damage after Vaal River floodgates open without warning

Guesthouse owners and farmers on the banks of the Vaal River near Bloemhof in the North West say they have suffered severe damages and loss in revenue. This is after the dam floodgates were opened a few days ago without proper warning from the department of water and sanitation. Farmers say they could not remove their water pumps in time and many people camping and fishing near the river had to be evacuated.

May I applaud the engineers on both Vaal and especially Bloemhof dam for containing this flood, it did not result in a flood, rather a major swell, in compared to 2011 and 1986...

??? clearly there are some errors in this report, looking at the "On-Screen" heading! The Floodgates of the Vaal dam where only opened on the 11th of Feb 2021. The flooding in this report is not related to the Vaal Dam sluice gates being opened without warning! That much is certain. This flooding is most likely related to localized rains and floods.. Be it as it may, this problem is only going to get worse as the Vaal Dam Sluices have since been opened... Take care people!

My Family lives downstream from Bloemhof dam and is still in danger of being flooded, I don't blame the government for the floods but better control upstream can prohibit extreme flooding...
