    I've listened to this story about half a dozen times now and it never fails to entertain me. The music, sound effects and narration of it are wonderfully effective at evoking an atmosphere that enthralls me every time I listen to it.

    This is the story of Clarke= Ashton Smith that cememted for me my absolute love of the works of Clark Ashton Smith. I had read a couple other of his tales that day, and I remember vividly after reading this to end off my mini marathon or reading that I had to stop there or I might have nightmares. I love the comsic feel of Clark, and how he has cycles of stories. I've been really getting back into horror works, but moreso cosmic horror/weird tales/sci-fi and space horror. I like the existential works. I've been perusing channels on youtube to see which ones have the best selections and readings of works, and I definitely have to check out more works by you. I remember your voice from awhile back, hearing it and enjoying the quality of the work.

      Thank you, Staley! Kind words indeed, and much appreciated. Agreed, Smith is a massively underappreciated figure in the realms of horror and weird fiction. -Martin

    I don’t know how many times I’ve listened to this, but it is always completely wonderful. The reading, the excellent use of music, and that lovely little footnote at the end about keeping your mind open and your window closed! The whole thing is blissfully wonderful ❤️👏❤️👏❤️👏

    I absolutely loved the choice of vocabulary. It felt like listening to a narration of an Edgar Allan Poe or H.P Lovecraft story

    • @ghastlytales
      @ghastlytales 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Totally! Clark Ashton Smith was a friend of Lovecraft's and he was definitely influenced by him (who, in turn, was influenced by Poe). If you liked this, I've narrated one other story of his (The Abominations of Yondo: th-cam.com/video/BRSHR65MMjM/w-d-xo.html ) and I'd love to do more soon. Thanks for watching! -Martin

      Nyarlathotep you should read up on this author; him and lovecraft were "bros", would correspond regularly and mentioned each others creations in their own work now and again.

    Why is it non of these readers can pronounce Averoigne correctly. It doesn't rhyme with 'groin'. It's pronounced "Ave-er-WAN-yer"

    • @ghastlytales

      +ColTaylorDyath Interesting, I did not know that. Thanks for the heads up. Perhaps I could spin my error as a Scotsman's revenge for the way the rest of the world insists on mispronouncing Edinburgh and Glasgow. ;) -Martin

      +Ghastly Tales Thank Tom Moldvay for his pronunciation guide in D&D module X2 Castle Amber.
      As some viewers might be aware, that adventure (released in 1982) had a section that was based on the works of Clark Ashton Smith.
      Our role-playing group is playing it at the moment (I've done a blog of our adventures here hoagysdnd.blogspot.co.uk/p/castle-amber.html. Reading the Clark Ashton Smith novels gave me a lot of insight for running this adventure. Great stuff.
