Nice videos. Thank you for making them. Disassembling the gearbox was pretty intimidating for me without a clear video of what's going on in there.

One question- On my 10k gearbox I only have an issue with the "A" selector on the left hand tumbler. All the others work smooth as can be with a slight turn of the chuck locking them in however the first slot "A" will not engage at all. Would you have any idea of a possible issue it could be? any ideas would help with my decision of having to tear into it. It's a 1976 South Bend 10k that is in immaculate condition but I would like all of it functioning correctly even though I have yet ever needed to use that selection for single point threading. Thanks Bill from Colorado

You're welcome. Let me know if you want any other parts filmed, the lathe is currently disassembled anyways.
If you could help me out and hit that subscribe button it would be appreciated!

This is a MUCH appreciated rundown. Was going to leave it alone but you gave me the cajones to take it on.
Do you know off hand the dimensions of the screw nails you used to get the faceplate back on? They're pretty banged up on mine and I'm possibly having to drill them out and I'd like to replace as close to as-built as possible.

Also in the selector levers is one half of the gear mounted on the common shaft completely unused? Is it to be able to reverse if one half wears out?
Mine is clearly pretty deteriorated but the other "half" of the gear tooth is pristine and I can't figure out why it'd be designed like that.

I'm pretty sure they all get used depending on what speed you have the gear box in

#4 stainless screw nails from McMaster are what I used. I have 3/16" and 1/4” can't remember what length I used but I think it was 3/16”.
Try to avoid drilling out it will make a mess of the hole. Try a good set of pliers while turning cointerclockwise. Then try to cut a slot with a Dremel and use a flathead screwdriver. Mine were in rough shape too, but I was able to avoid drilling them.
