The Miracle of the Atom The Laws of physics that exist are due to the activity within the atom, which is finely tuned in order for us to exist and as we know atoms are required for life. The main energy level occupied by an electron during orbit is dictated by its fixed distance from the nucleus of the atom. This is relative to electron and proton attraction. There are constants within the atom, like the size of the electric charge of the electron and the ratio of the masses of the protons relative to each other. All orbitals that have the same value “N” being the main energy level relates to the quantum number and are said to share the same shell level. Protons are subatomic particles which are charged in relation to the nucleus, electrons are attracted towards them because they have opposite electrical charges; this fine tuning keeps them in orbit around the nucleus making the development of life possible as we know it. The atom is a miracle of design not an accident waiting to happen. Everything is made up of atoms which are finely tuned for the building blocks of life and also they create the environment necessary for the existence of life. The conditions on our own earth in particular are finely tuned being described as biophilic in which life as we know it can flourish. If any of the fundamental constants like the speed of light or the strength of gravity were to change just a little, then life as we know it would cease to exist. This realization has led some physicists to argue that our universe is intelligently designed, made especially for us, no accident waiting to happen. We live in a finely tuned universe perfectly primed in order to support life. There is irreducible complexity within the atom never mine the cell as atoms make up cells and are responsible for life as we know it. Atoms are unique and their atomic number dictates what substance or chemical property they have. Carbon for instance has an atomic number of 6 positively charged protons in the nucleus. Atoms are essential building blocks of life, for example the body contains fat which is made up of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen atoms. Carbon atoms because of their unique make-up also bond strongly to other elements such as hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen because they have branches or rings of various sizes that contain thousands of atoms, carbon is quite accommodating with other substances. These have unique atomic numbers that make life possible. Atoms suffer from irreducible complexity because all the electrons, protons and neutrons must be present at the same time in a particular number and order, for the atom to function as a designated substance. This knowledge dispenses with the idea of mutations and natural selection relating to chemical interactions. Life on the earth is based on carbon chemistry. Carbon is used in organic matter such as our bodies for instance in order to maintain life. They silently carry out important chemical reactions within our bodies and they are essential to life on the earth. Carbon atoms make up the sun, stars, comets and the atmosphere of most planets. Carbon is found in coal, oil, diamonds and natural gas deposits. The atom is clearly designed and many physicists now recognise this, but they won’t use the word God or Creator, they would sooner believe aliens were responsible, but the question is then begged who made the aliens? The term atom really means invisible unit or uncuttable, and for a long time it was thought that the atom could not be split, but when they did, it produced the atomic bomb. An infinite intelligence made the various atoms which are so small and are measured as being one tenth of a billionth of a metre across. They are so small that they cannot be seen under a powerful microscope. We are led to believe that all our sophisticated atoms are derived from an invented primordial complex soup of chemicals which then produced the first living cells. Remember each atom is unique due to its composition and arrangement of subatomic particles relative to the number of protons in the nucleus. This is no accident waiting to happen! A primordial soup is purely fictitious and based on fantasy and imagination because men do not want to retain God in their knowledge. Jesus did not lie to us concerning him being the Son of God and the Saviour of the world. He said that men shall give an account for every idle word spoken, except they repent of their sins!

@@geraldbutler5484 I would assume this to be true in developing nations without a (well-developed) educational system, but is this also true for Western countries? Steven Weinberg is a living legend. To understand the Many Worlds of QM better, all one needs to do is realise... the chances of us being here is mathematically impossible, far too many things had to go exactly our way since T=0 for us to exist today. I bet your Nana knows how the dawkins anti christians thought crime models have now been set on everyone else. how does our awareness if our own mortality affect the way we see or analyse our world?.... We have to get used to the concept of collective intelligence as we move on or a single mind will be capable of understanding the future but we probably will have the collective capacity to do so.
Actually, I discovered that the interview took place in 2008. In this interview, Weinberg mentions the upcoming effort to discover the Higgs Boson, which occurred in 2012.
Maybe the difference between observers and "matter" is consciousness! I would think Bernardo Kastrup (analytical Idealism) would have a lot to say here as his view is that the Universe, creation, is mental in origin, and that the physical world is what the Universe "looks like" across our dissociative boundary!
Wienberg is great; he talks about science as it reveals itself, with no speculations! However, he kept me wondering about the number of parameters that had to be fixed to the right point for life to arise! Why did all those parameters agree with one another? What if one parameter were off the circle? Would life arise?
Really interesting to hear Dr. Weinberg speculate that the CERN collider might only detect the Higgs Boson (which it did), and nothing else (due to limits on the energy that can be attained). It seems he was spot on.
About the arguments raised @ about 45:00 there is a pretty damned good reason why we don't do geological exploration on Earth using robots, reasons that extrapolate to Mars and other planets too. Even if it seems spectacular to the profane eye, the results of the exploration of Mars so far are about 150 years behind in terms of approach and, especially, results. If we would apply the methods the kind of exploration done by robots in space to the geologic recourse finding and extraction, we'd still banging rocks one against the other.
I've heard Dawkins described as "the most Christian, atheist" - emphasizing his moral fortitude and congeniality. I enthusiastically agree. However, the debates he so often participates in deminish his true nature. He wastes too much time debating suppositions. That kind of discourse inevitably turns both parties into inexorable zealots. It's so wry to see such predigious people, who agree on the the tangible facts, and who'd accomplish much in a collaborative endeavor, demean themselves arguing over whether everything began in the most absurd stroke of luck or at the behest of the great spaghetti monster. It can only, from the outset, become a lesson on fallacious logic and oratory chicanery. Why not agree on the contentious points (as Weinburg so graciously does here) and challenge each other toward their common goals - To explore and discover!

Wow, this interview is a gem, especially now Steven Weinberg is sadly no longer available to interview ! As an atheist agnostic mathematician, I have long admired your work in science, the popularisation of science, and the importance of reason and scientific rationality in society and culture (without being a groupie - although it happens that we had lunch together in college once).
"It may be that they [LHC] will discover the Higgs boson and nothing else, and we will be left looking at our toes and wondering what to do next." Prophetic! But check out Neil Turok's ideas in response to this.
There is something soothing about listening to two knowledgeable individuals having a civil conversation. Listening to this makes the work day pass a little faster. 😊

The Miracle of the Atom
The Laws of physics that exist are due to the activity within the atom, which is finely tuned in order for us to exist and as we know atoms are required for life.
I don`t often get nervous around "fame" or "intellect" but I must admit, if I met Richard Dawkins at random in an elevator, i might pass out.... ! what a man.
Well maybe your should do something rather less friendly because the man devised thought crimes against Christians etc & i expect you found that clever and cheered. But the problem is the same models now shut down EVERYONES / YOUR FREE SPEECH. The older / traditional atheists knew that would happen the minute new atheist / radical marxists / fascists opened their mouths. Fact is that to shut christian worship down ( they can't worship in public by law - the ONLY religion that can't ) constitutes the first thought crime since the witch trials and that pernicious way to police people thoughts WOULD leak to police all thoughts once it had got away with itself.
Go ahead a kiss Jesus Dawkins feet who cares - but KNOW HE shut down your free speech by sneaking up via religion.

THE STUDY OF PHYSICS IS BEAUTIFUL AND ITS EXPERIENCE IS ABSOLUTELY BLISSFUL . THANK YOU
Physics is as much a belief system as it is a fact finding one. Its also been a way to steal money and launder it. Mostly physics has consisted of LIES. You indicate feeling fulfilled by it and would like to feel free to do that right ? - so be it. Why cheer laugh and applaud when what others choose to believe is removed by your IDOL !! The lies he told the new atheist fanatic ? - don't be silly !! So the social contract you want is to free to continue with your beliefs even though but Dawkins modelled thought crimes against the Christian religion thus violating other peoples freedom. I know I know - he lied when stating THEY were steling freedom from US/YOU/NEW ATHEISTS/our mothers etc. Well look at it this way. By sheer coincidence the christian church across Europe has now been looted of all its wealth FUNNY THAT. In UK seemingly via an oil executive posing as a archbishop - HOW VERY IRREGULAR. And seems to be one which dawkind dare not say a word against. FUNNY THAT TOO. Meanwhile ? a different abrahamic religion put in instead - EVEN MORE FUNNY THAT. Do you admire that cunning arrangement or something ? He told new atheists it was all being shot down NOT that one other one's would be taking over! He could not know ? - the stop talking all this dawkins genius nonsense then because old atheism DID!!
Physics has been as equally as misleading as religion has been throughout history , thus there was no special reason to have laws devised against religious people at all considering sciences are habitually WRONG and people are madly in love with that. Cosmology for example right ? what has Susskind shown ? That Hawking was wrong about everything !! So why hasn't Dawkins opened his massive gob and caused laws to be brought in against black hole theorists ? They've cost the world billions to talk BS ..
But then again dawkins models have leaked out of anti religion into ordinary life & are now shutting down EVERYONES FREE SPEECH.
Ironic really him being a biologist considering his thought crime models now outlaw us defining a woman by it! Theres infinite genders too, and thanks to his models being unwilling to repeat a ridiculous pronoun is now a SILENCE CRIME.

Well grab that while you can as behind everyones backs the anti christian thought crime models new atheism designed were extensively field tested and proved that a police state could enforce these metaphysical style laws. Flushed with that success the same dawkins models now shut down everyones free speech.
Anyone might talk and think while they can before a dawkinsian model means they can't. It won;t be long until computerised algorithmic versions are all over us like a plague of locusts. Its as if butter would not melt & hes been claiming to be a social justice warrior involved in every search for truth & reason for decades true.
The empirical evidence ? the very thing he is supposed to exemplify ? That shows that he has discovered nothing in way of evolutionary biological factors - in that the reverse - his models have made it illegal to discuss certain biological realities. They've even made 'SILENCE' illegal. For example should a school kid decided to be called X ridiculous name we are told we are breaking the law by failing to comply to that wish & cannot bypass the matter just by not saying anything.

Steven Weinberg is a living legend.
To understand the Many Worlds of QM better, all one needs to do is realise... the chances of us being here is mathematically impossible, far too many things had to go exactly our way since T=0 for us to exist today.
QM tells us that Everything that can happen, does happen and we are on just one of those ever continually sub-dividing branches.
I agree he is definitely a legend but sadly he passed away in July of 2021.

Could be yet another zealot unable to see the sameness between a science cult & a religious one. The leaders of the science cults ( like dawking ) claim it is not possible for science to be a cult. Thus ? - the science cult disciples respond precisely as the religious cult followers do by believing the leader and use blind faith . Dawkins hasn't' even breathed out one single original ( by dawkins) word that could be verified empirically IN HIS LIFE. I.E hes either parroted know fact that others have proven / founded or sheer speculation that he dream't up via METAPHYSICS.
What a Great chat
Really interesting to hear Dr. Weinberg speculate that the CERN collider might only detect the Higgs Boson (which it did), and nothing else (due to limits on the energy that can be attained). It seems he was spot on.
But he LHC has discovered much, much more than just the Higgs.
