  • This week we’re joined by Dave Owens of the Pinhoti Project and we discuss turkeys and turkey hunting strategies. This one has been a longtime overdue and turned into an interesting introspective as to why we do certain things in the turkey woods. We all learned something and Bobby even taught everyone something about pileated woodpeckers. The season is almost here and this one is certain to get you fired up. Listen, Learn and Enjoy.

Dave Owens, Shane Simpson, Dale Outdoors, The Hunt Public are the only turkey hunters I watch & follow. Could you get Dale Outdoors on sometime.......Thanks, love your podcast videos.

Regarding smoking a cigar after the kill: when my 18 year old son killed his first “run-n-gun” gobbler (I.e. not in a blind), we hung up the bird and smoked a cigar together. A tradition I learned from the Pinhoti Project. My son later told me that was the coolest thing he had ever done. It literally brings a tear to me eye to recall that special memory. Thank you guys for this awesome podcast!

My dad called them indian hen all my life! He killed as many turkeys as anyone I know that never hunted outside of Mississippi and I never personally saw him call in a turkey using a mouth call

I've heard Pileated Woodpeckers called Good Gods all my life. Was never a reference to Ivory Bill Woodpeckers. I'm from SW Miss.
