- From the “Oregon Art Beat” archives: A 2016 visit to the late master ceramicist Hiroshi Ogawa’s studio as he crafts, then loads dried work into his traditional Japanese anagama earthen kiln.
Cameras followed Ogawa and friends as they fire up the kiln with wood to a sustained temperature of 2300 degrees Fahrenheit. After a week of cooling, Ogawa then conducted an opening ceremony, unloaded the flame-painted pots, then celebrated with his community of potters.
