5:31 this is absurd. I had to watch this like 5 times to comprehend what Djoko did. Excellent out wide serve by Federer is followed up by an insane one hand backhand return that causes Novak to completely spin 180. Federer comes in with the good approach that just gets obliterated precisely by Novaks passing shot past one of, if not, the best player at net ever. Unreal.

I can probably already guess Federer's 4 Matches:
Cincy 12 and Finals 19 against Nole; Finals 11 and IW 17 against Rafa. I would choose 2019's match against Nole over Finals 10 because it had indeed a stronger meaning than the other and it is more recent, though I really feel like Nole's gap from Roger in 2010 was bigger. So I wouldn't be surprised at all to find the more distant match instead of one of my two choices (Cincy 12 had the only bagel Roger gave to Nole, but the second set was close, though always with Roger's serve to control)

I think when players going god mode is mentioned, we think about power players and big servers, but this examples shows that what god mode truly means. When Djokovic plays like this, he is just an impregnable wall that mercilessly close down upon you. There is nothing you can do; can't hit through him; can't outlast him. It's just a matter of time. Also, he doesn't defeat you with incredible efficiency or flair, but he just takes you apart bit by bit.

An interesting fact is that Federer inspite of being 4 matches behind in their h2h has still won more sets than Djokovic as the matches Federer won were in straights or four sets but Djokovic had to win a lot of nailbiters including 4 5 setters in GS and lots of 3 sets matches in BO3.

At his absolute peak, there's been no player more dominant and ruthless like Djokovic. Even a 2007 Federer + NEO backhand of 2017, might find it difficult to beat peak Novak, with the exception of maybe grass and fast indoors. That would be a fascinating battle though. The same with a 2008 Nadal,(when he was much quicker), with the exception of clay. The difference maybe marginal, but i'll have to hand it to Djokovic.

seems like Djokovic and Federer almost never have one sided matches, even when they're straight sets. even though Djokovic has had upper hand in rivalry for past decade especially at the majors (which I would attribute at least in part to Djokovic's prime coinciding with Federer's decline), Federer dominated the previous decade, so overall it's pretty even. in both of their worst defeats to the other one, they still managed 6 games, whereas they've handed and received worse losses to Nadal

I like Djokovic too he's one of the GOATs obviously but it's pretty clear that Fed and Djoko are liked more . Not completely his fault , Fed is the ambassador of the sport and Nadal was the one who challenged Fed . And they both have contrasting styles of play and yet have a chemistry . So the tennis world was already split into 2 before Novak arrived and unfortunately there wasn't that much love left . And Novak has himself agreed that he had problems adjusting to the crowd in his early days . But still , he'll go down in history as one of the GOATs at least , for sure .

Shashank Uncle Roger still played world class tennis during those years and still continues to do so and I’d hardly say nadal was past it at the beginning of this period as he would have been only 24 in 2010 and he still plays at a very high level today as well. He’s also added many GS since then so I don’t know how your coming to that conclusion. In contrast I’d say it was the hardest period of tennis when you include Andy Murray into the mix as well.

He had serious troubles with his serve back in 2009/2010. This was somewhat the reason as to why it looked like he is declining instead of progressing when compared to 2008. Not sure what was the exact reason(I think it might have been an injury) but he decided that he needs to change his serving in 2009. He hired Todd Martin for that reason and the results were terrible. In 2009 Djoković actually ended up serving more double faults than aces.

Djokovic knows Nadal's game so well. Djokovic attacks Nadal's FH so much. Djokovic first aims deep to Nadal's FH, then short to Nadal's FH. That's the formula. Nadal is so far back he can't do anything other than defend. Of course, this requires Djokovic to have a BH that can neutralise Nadal's FH. And Djokovic's BH is one of the best in the world. Maybe on clay, Nadal's FH might be more troublesome for Djokovic, but not on hard courts.

  • @timothynguyen8343

With Federer, Djokovic attacks Fed's BH. Djokovic either draws a BH error, or keeps hitting deep to the BH until Fed drops it short. Fed usually beats opponents with his BH down the line, but because Djokovic is so fast, he can redirect that shot and set up for a winner.
To beat Djokovic you need to make him lose confidence in his BH. Fed or Nadal need to attack his BH and wrong foot him enough times to make him lose confidence. Then take charge at the net, and and hit into the open court sparingly to keep Djokovic guessing.
