We were on north shore Oahu..on this beach. Had no idea we were on this famous beach/bonzai pipeline. Looked behind me and wondered why someone had such a big Volcom emblem on the outer edge of their lanai..yep, we were right in front of this famous house. Absolutely beautiful and would be a dream to live there 🤙
Herbie Fletcher owned the house with Gerry for a while, then my uncle Mike Strada bought it and lived in it for a few years and eventually sold it to Volcom.
@@sanfranciscobay I think I remember Gerry bought it with his Mom and they had the top level. Herbie had the bottom. Christian had a bedroom, maybe shared it with Nate. I used to stay in that room with Shaun Lopez when we’d go over from Maui. My uncle bought it for 2 or 4 mill and sold it for twice that to Volcom. Now it’s worth probably twice as much again. Now Tai runs that house. The upstairs is reserved for Volcom owners. They own the house next door also, the party house where the young guys stay, and Tom Grom runs that side.

I was on the North Shore early 1980's during December for 2-4 weeks for 4 years. I remember seeing Herbie rolling his stand up Jet Ski out from the house, down the beach to Jet Ski the waves in front of the house.
@@sanfranciscobay sounds about right. They sold to Mike for 2, Mike sold to Volcom for 4, now it’s worth about 8 mill I’d think. It was already built. Maybe Gerry added the 2nd story. I think my uncle did some upgrades but for sure Volcom did major renovations. It’s not the same house on the inside now. Herbie was crazy at pipe with his Jetski. Pretty sure the first tow in was Herbie towing Martin potter in at Pipe in late 80’s, early 90’s. Must have been around when you were there. Never occurred to us to do it on waves too big to paddle. Some Maui guys were towing Jaws with a 12 foot aluminum fishing boat before the jet ski days. Crazy
@@jackstrada5263 Is the house on stable ground or is the Ocean slowly eroding the Beach and is going wash the house away in 5-10-20 years? I've seen videos of the homes to the east are being eroded by the surf and the County/State is not allowing them to make temporary repairs to prevent the homes being washed away by the eroding Beach.
