Since this is a month old I am sure you have gotten farther and probably figured this out on your own, but just in case you hadn't (and I hope this doesn't go against your backseating stance), The reason you were doing less damage with the greatsword is because you didn't have the stats required to use it. In the game you can technically use any weapon with any stats for basic attacks but if you don't meet the requirements then you can't do the special attacks and the damage is significantly reduced.
Biggest mistake all new ER players make, you can outrun 99% of human npcs on foot, and can outrun everyone on your horse so if an enemy looks too tough just run around them. Then you can choose your opponents you want to face vs fighting everyone who will respawn when you die except Bosses. Also there is no set path you have to take just certain Bosses to beat to progress to furthest endgame areas everywhere else can be explored. Finally small tower icons on clouded map area indicate a map fragment piece to unlock the map. Enjoy the journey. Edit...to use Spirit Ashes you need the Spirit Calling Bell obtained at the 1st merchants location but only at night time another npc cutscene will happen.
Appreciate the heads up!! I do have to remind myself that this is an open world game, whenever I get frustrated with an area or a boss (which happens often 😅) I try to change up things and go explore elsewhere. BUT... I can be stubborn sometimes and get hyper-focused on things hehe... Thanks for watching 💙

Hello Birdyrage. I don't write and i don't speak english well so i'm sorry for my mistakes. I take pleasure to watch your video and with you we are not bored. Usually i'm rather fan of final fantasy and many dragon quest but Elden Ring is very amazing. This one is very difficult but with a good look, speed and skill anyone could have fun. Rumble the fights is bored for me but Elden Ring is really different and your playthough is proof. Even if i don't really like dungeons i like open world and characters evolution system so i must try it next year . Also i'll watch your second video. See your soon.

Because she is trying to constantly keep the audience entertained and focus on the game at the same time. So she ends up being mediocre gamer and entertainer.
