Perfect! Someone @ work saw me parking garage. This RN asked me how could I afford a new car on my salary when she couldn't. I wasn't a nurse then but I learned how jealous some people can be so messy so right on keep your personal life just that.

I LOVE #3. As an LPN I made this mistake working at my first nursing job! This is a super valuable tip and you said it well! I am starting a new job as an RN next month and this is at the top of my LIST!

I made a lot of these mistakes at my first CNA job. I thought I had made friends with one of the girls so we would chat about life outside and next thing I know I find that she had been telling everyone else (including my supervisor who it turns out she was good friends with) that I was having problems in my personal life leading to my coworkers assuming that I was too distracted and frazzled to take on any real responsibilities beyond basic cares. It's probably the biggest lesson I learned next to don't get too attached to your residents in long term care.

You’re not alone hunny you’re just a sweet kind person who sees the world and the goodness in it so when you come across those type of negativity they show their true colors but the ppl you’re caring for sees the real you and that’s the ppl that makes a difference in their lives no matter how short it is you’ve made a positive impact on them. I carry a little piece of memory of all the ppl I cared for that touched my soul and I turn the sadness of losing them to positivity because I know I made them feel happy and loved and cared for. Some ppl have to try but sometimes some have that natural capability to show that love by their actions words or even silence. Good luck love

I WISH I had someone telling me to do the obvious thing when I was a new, young practical nurse! I learned the hard way. Arriving at least 30 minutes early Is good for many jobs, but almost ESSENTIAL If you are a nurse. You are providing very sound, helpful info to anyone beginning a nursing career, and unfamiliar with procedure outside of their clinicals. May you have a rewarding career and remember to take care of yourself 1st so you can be better able to take care of others!:) Take care!

I'm a new RN w/about a month of hospital experience. Too bad my floor prohibits looking up patients' charts before you're clocked in. I would gladly come in an hour early to read up on my assignments, but we've been advised not to. I agree that keeping a positive attitude is crucial... having that mentality that "everything is gonna be ok".

Is a good tip but I come to work at 6:45 PM and nursing assignments are not ready until 7:00 pm or later because charge nurses have not finished it yet. Then the stress level is coming high when you have to waste more time getting report at that time and being behind from the beginning.

Hi ReMar I am considering going into nursing. Great tips! I have an MPH and I did a lot of clinical research, recruiting subjects and collecting bio samples. Do you think my research experience gives me an edge? I am afraid of the environment, very smart to say you are not there to make friends. Cattiness is too common among women in the workplace.

The problem is most of these places don’t have you assignment set up that far ahead of time. Nurses eat their young. Night shift is the only shift I can stand to work.
