      Thanks for the info, its been hard to find accurate data on this machine so far… I wondered if it was heavier than I thought it was.

    One thing you need to do after starting the engine is to engage the hand clutch, with the gearshift in neutral of course, as this is how the final drive gets it's lubrication. Sitting idling with the clutch disengaged the lube pump won't be turning. Always leave the fwd/rev lever in one or the other and the gearshift in neutral. You must do this if you are doing any stationary work such as using the rear winch.
    I have a 17A 695 It was my grandfather's. #695 of 19000 produced from 1955 to 1961. So it was one of the very early 17A models.
    Cable blade, pony motor and 2 shiv power unit on the back to raise the blade and run a cable controlled pull type scraper, which I also have.

      Thanks for the information on the final drive. I will be sure to keep that in mind when it's idling or like you said doing stationary work with the winch. It sounds like you have a nice 17A with some great history behind it, I inherited my Grandfather's 63 JD 1010 years back and did a complete restoration on it and still use her today.

      Thanks, i believe the barn is what saved this old gal. Had she been out in the weather I don’t think it would have started up nearly as easily, if at all.

    • @Yellowdogsworld
      @Yellowdogsworld  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Haha!! Yep, we’ll to be fair everyone was getting kicked out due to the place being sold. I really did rescue the old girl, the owners were going to have it hauled off for scrap since it had not run in several years and they didn’t know if it would even move.

      I’ve learned a lot about this old CAT since I got it going. Still haven’t found a serial number on it, but like you said it’s a 3T and heavier than I thought it was.

      I still haven’t found an id tag on it, after doing some more digging I suspected it was prior to 55. Its nice to have some confirmation on it.

    • @Yellowdogsworld
      @Yellowdogsworld  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wish I had a reason and the means to run it over a scale just so I would know for sure. I've read & heard its anywhere from 25000 to 35000 LBS. I guess at the end of the day it don't really matter unless your planning on hauling it on the highway. One things for sure.. you don't want it to run over your toes 😁
