  • The 70th in my Retro Goa Explorations series of videos in which I present some of my favourite 'Goa Trance' tracks from the '90s.
In this series, I go back to my first experiences in the Goa Trance electronic dance music movement starting in late 1994, drawing upon my recollections of hearing specific music at certain events and using my classical music background explore the elements that I believe make these tracks so great.
The series is currently focused on music I first encountered in the '96-97 season, starting in September 1996, when I moved to London. The track presented in this episode is the first time I'm featuring this particular artist in this series, and it is a massive production in all respects: Nervasystem's incredible track Decoder. After I give some background about my first time hearing this music with a few extra details from the producer, I present the track simultaneously with my observations; after some closing remarks, I then share it without my commentary.

Big fan of Nervasystem’s abstract take on “Goa”. Thanks Mark for this deep dive.

What a blaster. Love the sounds, arrangement and treatment of Drezz's music. So clear, crisp and trippy AF!

Welp, late to the party, there was only one track I didn't know (the one by Eco from episode 68) on this entire list so far. I am quite surprised to see that, so far at least, there has been no mention of people like Sandman, Elysium, Dimension 5 (Transdimensional is a fantastic piece of work) to name some. I'll be eagerly waiting for new episodes and thanks for sharing this wonderful music from the 90s. I also enjoy the commentary about the background of this scene.

Very grateful for these retro videos!! Please do something on UX's Chameleon, or Kris Kylven's earlier Cosmo Shiva, or even better, Source of Life!
