Built, not bought! Awesome job you two. The skill to manufacture a product of that class does not come to the faint of heart. Building a stick house is far less complicated. ✌️
Awesome truck for the money and also scary amount of money for everything. But what an end product that I know you are so proud of. Well done again guys.
Well we have followed your journey of the build from the start and have enjoyed the whole experience you definitely deserve a BIG THUMBS UP👍for getting it finished well done 🙌🙌 We look forward to watching you on your travels. Best wishes and happy travels Peter and Jane 🍷🍷🍷🍷
This is amazing ❤❤ Did you guys make this from scratch? Our best years with the kids were in a campervan...but this beast is a different "kettle of fish" Love it ❤
Its been great to follow your journey, brilliant job ! I do have a *** WARNING ABOUT SILWY *** Buying their products is addictive ! We now have 2 wine glasses, 2 tall glasses, 2 tumblers, 2 mugs, Salt and Pepper grinders and their LED table light ! Great company to deal with and superb products.
Hi Phil and Izzy. There is so much to digest from this video but the bottom line is that you have spent circa £150k building your bespoke overland vehicle rather than buying the equivalent from a company for £350k upwards. That is an incredible achievement. I think your original "£100k objective" was, with hindsight, wildly optimistic. I commented eight months ago to that effect and at that time you were already projecting £130k, so your total doesn't really come as a surprise. However, I do believe you have achieved real value for money, especially when you compare to commercial costs. The truck looks absolutely fabulous. The amount of thought and effort you have put into the build is clear to see from all of your build videos. Quality shines through as well as your attention to detail and your unwillingness to compromise. You have built a wonderful home and I really look forward to following your travels. BTW, to not only build but film everything is an achievement in itself. It has been fascinating to watch from buying the truck right through to the completion. Thank you for posting all of your videos.
Tremendous job on the build, documenting everything and honestly presenting the costs involved. Now take the time to enjoy it and hope to see you on the road sometime!
Truck looks amazing, we have just finished building our MAN tgm truck, we shifted the body from our 1999 Isuzu 4x4 to the MAN, budget was totally blown out and I planned on a year to build and took 4.. Good luck on your travels.
Hi, I think you’ve done an amazing job on it. You could easily sell it at a massive profit. I’m not sure about those tradesmen’s hourly rates though. There’s a big difference between price work, day rate and an hourly call out charge. Just my opinion on that one part of how you priced it up. Anyway, I think you should have done two at the same time, then you could have sold one and paid for the other. I’ve mentioned it once before but I also think you could produce a book on the build. It’s that good, people would buy it I’m sure.
Well done. 👍 Definitely a good deal for what you built. I think you found a good balance on what was outsourced and what you could build. 🛠 Of course we all want to be able to build our own subframe, glass windows, plumbing, even cabinets. But how much more time would it have taken to gain just a moderate skill level. 🤔 Thanks for sharing 👍
What an achievement and the cost of Phil's labour is staggering. It is a fantastic truck and a credit to you both. A shout out to the project/finance manager in the background to Izzy. Now time to relax and enjoy the truck .
Congrats for being back on the road - can't wait to see new episodes in the new rig. I knew from day-1, that 100k budget wasnt going to be enough - my build was 20% over what I had budgeted for, and the price of many components and materials have skyrocketted recently. And the labour! - if I added that to the cost at minimum wage, it would be staggering. I get annoyed by people who ask how much my build cost, and say they could have built it for way less - no idea at all, so I thank you for sharing to those people (and those who would like to embark on their own build) the reality of such projects.
Thank you again. The real truth about the cost of a build like this is always fascinating. Its put the cost of our build into perspective which is very useful for us. Congratulations - its been very interesting (and impressive) watching Phil graft, knowing that the management has been there in support - time for hummus - and wine - have you any of the many bottles left???
I think that for what you have now it was well worth it. As I work on my Class A RV Refit, Remodel and Hot Rod I'm just glad I have the shop, tools and skills to do all of those little costly things, in-house, that you had to pay for. ie: my shop has internal overhead lifting winches, a forklift, all the needed tooling, and space inside to tackle my entire job. Now, if I can just stop falling off the roof of the darn thing and breaking body parts, I can finish it by this coming summer. (Currently laid up with a broken pelvis from a Jan 5 fall!) Well done Guys, I've follwed every step here in North Texas! I had considered getting an Isuzu FTR and doing the same thing you did with the MAN. I think using the refrigerator box was a stroke of brilliance. If I ever switch over to an Isuzu build, I'll consider a reefer box for mine. One thing I did learn during my previous projects is to never add up the reciepts until it's finished. 😮😊
Quite an achievement ! Both of you must feel very proud. I know I did when I finished my van build and I still love my much smaller Sprinter. Now you can travel almost anywhere on almost any terrain so it is worth it in the end. Looking forward to seeing the great videos you will make.
Brilliant vid again, thanks for being so transparent. It helps to act as a reference and think 'yep', X or Y is similar to what we would be spending' and has helped stop us second-guessing ourselves. Phil's labour cost was surprising as well! You must be so please now that you're pretty much finished and actually using it. Marvellous effort, we are really impressed and happy for you 😀
Thank you for sharing, a very interesting video. You both must feel very proud, it’s an amazing vehicle. Safe travels. Just bought your cook book, looking forward to trying it out, when in Spain next month. 👍
Your build is terrific and it’s been fun to watch your progress. We own a low miles factory Class C here in the US, but I’m building a Super Class C from scratch (IH Durastar box truck conversion) and the final cost will be as much as we can buy a good used low mileage factory built Super C. But unfortunately now in the US, RV quality is so terrible that motorhomes are often actually unsafe because of faulty wiring, frame and structural problems, and other issues. Fortunately I have a great workshop, woodworking and machine tools and welders, and the fabrication and other skills to do the work. When it’s done it will be exactly how we want it and it will be safe. You guys have given me lots of inspiration and encouragement! Thank you.
The real cost is 12 months not travelling! Its exactly what you wanted, worth what you have spent. You also sold the previous one for a chunk of the budget, main question for you is the difference in price + 12 months stationary worth the upgrade from what many would see as a similar truck in size and capability, or what compared to upgrading a few bits on the old one. Well done!
Hi Kev, thanks for the support. The 12 months not traveling was a factor and although I could have kept going, after 5.5yrs Izzy in particular really wanted a break from the road, and a regroup with family. Although the truck is similar in size, it's significantly different, the 8.4t compared to 18t means carrying a bigger bike, water, fuel plus a significantly bigger electrical system leaves us with a huge pay load capacity , meaning nothings stressed. This truck looks and feels a million miles away from our first truck, the old MAN LE 4X4 is a superior vehicle to the TGM and the simplicity of our first truck means it could well be going long after this one. It was certainly a challenge, taking a concept, applying it to a blank canvas and driving what you think is correct together with what's in your minds eye, leaves you at an end state. There's always going to be something you'd have done differently but all in all, I think it's turned out pretty well. I want to say a huge thank you, you've been there throughout the build (and long before) and I've always appreciated the support on the channel. Maybe now I'll get a chance to watch Kev's crazy Jimny antics 😀🙏
@TheGapDecaders cheers yeah been here since you had a few hundred subs at most, in Turkey or Georgia. My little Jimny shorts have been doing well. Busy working on it to get it MOTd and on the road. And yeah, I meant in braod strokes "big overland off road truck" I do appreciate the differences and if the year with family was needed then its even more worthwhile to do.
Well you two, well done you got there and Phil, believe me I feel your Pain. My build also took 10 months and even now 11 years on I still recall the tiredness and stress clearly. On a positive note in the years since our truck has repaid us every hour and every pound in spades. Well done again. Phil and Lynn
I'd like to build something similar in Thailand where i live. Do you have spreadsheets of all the materials, costs, and various suppliers that i could buy to use as a guide?
Hi, it cost £150k. If however we were to factor in my time, physically working on the truck throughout the year @ £40 per hour, the total would be £275k. 👍😊
Thank you for this video and being open about the costs. Would you have an excel spreadsheet you could share with all or majority of expense items. It would be a great help when cost-planning a self build.

You should be so proud of what you have accomplished. For us, just watching, of course it was worth it.

Think you've done well there for the price it has cost you. You have a great truck camper there, maybe valued at around 400k.
Well done. 👍 Definitely a good deal for what you built.

Spectacular achievement. Well done.
The bit that scares me the most is you said 10 months at 60hours a week was a rush. I haven't started ours and have just over a year to finish.
All hard work pays back Well done guys

The LED above Phil’s head is dropping out :)
I think you’ve done a great job, you couldn’t buy that for what you’ve paid and that’s the main thing.
Hi guys were did you get them glasses have looked back but cant find it thanks Andy

Sorry, I'm confused. Did it cost you guys £274.400 or £150.000 to build?
It looks fabulous 👌

How much was the splash back? I’ll give you a fiver to take it off your hands🤣
got to be worth 400 k
Clearly I am a beans on toast D.I.Y millionaire enjoy your quarter million box on wheels.
You have been well ripped off
