तब दुर्योधन जिज्ञासा पूर्वक भीष्म से पूछता है |
पितामह आप कैसे कह सकते हैं की कर्ण एक अतिरथी नहीं है ?
तब भीष्म जवाब देते हैं :
परशुराम जी के अभिशाप के कारण इसके अनेक दिव्य अस्त्र क्षीण हो चुके हैं | मेरी नज़र में दिव्यास्त्रों से विहीन एक योद्धा युद्धक्षेत्र में अतिरथी नहीं कहा जा सकता | अर्जुन जैसे योद्धा से भिड़ने पर यह निश्चित ही अपने प्राण खो देगा |

Actually bhishma had given his word to kuntiya that as long as he s alive he will not allow anybody harm hurt or kill any of her(kuntiya) sons n he knew karna was her son too...so he didn't allowed karna to enter the battleground as long as he was in the battleground.. n after 10th days of war bhishma was eliminated from the battlefield..karna entered battlefield. Bhishma actually never hated karna he was only fulfilling his given words to kuntiya.

वस्तुतः पितामह भीष्म जी किसी भी हाल में युद्ध नहीं चाहते थे, उनको युद्ध की विभीषिका का पूरा अन्दाज था । दुर्योधन , केवल शकुनि और कर्ण के बहकावे में आ कर ही युद्ध पर तुला हुआ था अतः यही कारण था कि भीष्म जी कर्ण और शकुनि से घृणा करने लगे थे । उन्होंने जो भी कटु वचन कर्ण को कहे वो उनकी अंतरात्मा की पीड़ा थे और उचित ही थे ।

The reason for their animosity is hidden in their previous birth. Karna was an Asura and Bheeshma was a Dev. Karna was the most superior warrior in Mahabharata. He followed what he believed to be dharma such as true friendship and loyalty. Bheesma had become adharmi by fighting for Dhuryodhana and for false reasons.

Even Bheem defeated and destroyed Karna's chariot...he was defeated several times by Arjun and even Chitrasen so what do you want to prove?
if karna started the war with bhisma on the first day then it would be devastation on pandavas because we know that karna,bhisma and dronacharya are students of guru parishuram..and when they fight then bhisma will never die and then they will be less chances of pandavas winning the war but bhisma dont want to see fight between the brothers who want to kill each other...
If karna was not stopped by bhisma then there would be a different mahabaharat..
All the three were students of lord Parshu Ram but Bhishma only could defeat Lord Parshu Ram
