Hey. We've heard of them in Iowa now. Something about a song about shitty women and an even worse town just seemed to resonate with us for some reason. Super weird.
I hear the influence of some of my favorite bands, from a perfect circle to Billy talent, royal blood, fall out boy, as well as others i can't think of the names of right now. Love it
Is it me or is this song about toxic masculinity and its psychological harm?? He appears to be an introverted guy who used to spend his days working long hours to make a living. He fell victim to physical and emotional abuse made by a woman in his hometown, and that's why hometown girls are his greatest fear. He would rather continue college instead of coming back home where he feels like he has no one to turn to. The woman broke his spine (not sure if metaphorically or physically) and punched his lips after finding out that he left her party since he felt out of place, and that moment made him realize that spending all his time working those long hours was not worth it. He has also fallen victim to the societal standards that emphasize that men are just supposed to keep quiet and not speak up about their personal incidents of abuse, especially when it's abuse made by women. So now he lives his life drinking his problems away "with no mouth or no lips" to speak out about his abuse.
I might be wrong but it feels a lot more of an extended metaphor for alcoholism. Showing up to a party and feeling out of place, but then it hits you and and your addicted and all the money you saved was for nothing. Then he escapes to college to leave that bad environment, then he found college is just as bad. I find that explanation fits better
I think the original comment here captures it perfectly, to be honest. It definitely explains most of the lyrics, and ties them all together quite nicely!
I came to the conclusion really early on that the "she" in this song isn't actually a real woman. It's either life, the devil, karma, or some other conceptual being, not a real woman. And then it ended with her asking, "Are you aware of who I am?" And I was like, "Oh Jesus damn." Karma makes the most sense for this "she" to be representing.
This song is so apropos to the PANDEMIC and how masks have hidden our lips... life isn't no fun with mouth or no lips... THE BLISTERING GUITAR finish.....eargasm at its finest guys...old rocker here...
Can't stop listening to this. Glad I randomly found this band.
Cleopatrick deserves way more recognition than it gets
100% agree
From who? No taste culture vultures?
