Brian, had you played 3 coins you still wouldn't have won more than $500. The machine is a computer and reels are only for you to look at. Same is true for selecting number of games in a bonus spin. Result will be the same no matter what box you choose. When a machine is ready to pay off, it pays off, and so the reason you see people win $2000 with a 50 cent bet, and a much lower amount with a much higher bet. When the machine is ready, it's ready for a certain code/amount. Doesn't matter what the reels say.
Renee, there is no "the machine is ready". The result is based on RNGs that map to a position in a PAR sheet, which is a virtual reel. There is a certain payback percentage (typically 85-98%) for a given machine based on the individual PAR sheets. Each spin maps random numbers to symbols and the wins are based on the probability of winning symbol combinations. For the number of games chosen in a bonus spin, as in any given spin, the win results reflect the variance of the distribution of all possible combinations. Slots have a higher variance than most games, which means the standard deviation of the distribution of results is large since the variance of a distribution is the average of squared differences from the average. Anything can happen in the short term, like a big win, but the overall payback over the long term approaches the machine's programmed payback (the 85-98%). The longer you play, the more likely you are to lose overall.

If you had bet 3 instead of 2. that may have very well not come up. A couple of times in the past when I won big with 1 or 2 in, people walking by said awe...to bad you did not have 3 in. I said to them, I believe that if I had, that may not have come up. The in both cases, the floor managers ( the suits ) who happened to be standing next to me both said in a low voice to me....your right, if you had that probably would not have come up...one of them went on with a more of an explanation,.and these were managers not slot attendants, so never despair over a low winning bet.....
No, what they mean is that you may have ran out of money before hitting that. Not that the bet amount means anything. The second you push the bet button, whether it be 1, 2 or 3, or the max bet button, the combination is chosen.

viscusman Oh, well, then they don't know how slot machines work. Once you hit the first button to play, your combination or screen set is locked in. The computer is no longer randomizing so you can continue betting 2, 3, 4,.....20 coins and you will get the same combination.
As a side note, I'm not just some layman making commentary. Not only have I worked in the slot department, my friend is a programmer for WMS so I have studied actual slot code. Being a computer science major in college, I can also read and understand code. That is something that no casino employee or even anyone in casino management can say. They only get to see the user end of it and make all the superstitious assumptions that players make. Even with slot techs, they only get to see an internal user interface and while they can change the payout tables so the machine might pay less, they cannot change the frequency of how often the machine hits, and they can't change it on a whim. The machines have to be taken out of play and reconfigured with the supervision of a gaming agent.
Yes, but they said that the old machines, the ones that take a 1, 2, or 3 coin bet, use a different set of logarithm's on each bet level, and this affects the out come for the random number generator. Which determines your combination.

The buy-a-pay machines, like the one featured here might use a different subset (not sure on IGT slot programming) since the 1 coin payouts are only bar symbol combinations, so the "7" symbols are essentially null, but it should still freeze all random number generators the moment the first coin is deposited (or button pressed) into the machine. Since the 2 and 3 coin payouts include all combinations, they are quite likely the same subset combination. When programming the payouts here, you would read the combination. Depending on the programming, there still may be no subset and the payout structure programming pseudocode for the top payout would be:
If CoinIn = 1 THEN
PayOut = 0
If CoinIn = 2 THEN
PayOut = 500
If CoinIn = 3 THEN
PayOut = Jackpot
CoinIn, PayOut and JackPot are my variables in this example in case you don't know programming.

That's right, the only way you would have one that same combination is if you had pushed the spin button (with three credits) at that exact millisecond; which would have been next to impossible, because the machine creates over 1000 combinations in one second. So yeah, it wasn't a $500 mistake...it was a $500 right decision to bet just two credits at that exact moment. ;)
XX XX I think the way slot machines work is, it pay out at certain clicks, so it doesn't matter if you higher or lower on your bet. The machine calulates how much has been taken, to how much has been given out over, just say 48 hours and then set a new click line on the machine.

I know how you feel, when I was at Cache Creek over there, I won like $1,036. I was about to put some more money in the slot machine, but I was thinking about my mother and my family so that's when I started snapping out of it and finally quit playing the machine.
You know, it's better that way. Once you have that big winnings, just keep it in your wallet and just walk away and don't play anymore machines.

It doesn't matter if you betted 1, 2, or 3 coins. Its just always a RGM (random generated machine).
Certain machines do actually matter and for the blazing double if he only bet 1 credit then the bars would only be active on the payline and no other symbols.

It doesn't matter how many credits you play. It doesn't matter if you pull the handle or push the button. The machine is on a cycle and when it hits the cycle you win. What you said about playing the wrong credits makes no difference what so ever. I used to work on slot machines.
There are no cycles to winning, its run on a random number generator.
it does matter with the payout and bonus though, I didn't finish the video yet. But when you bet max the bonus is not in proportional ratio, compare to smaller bets.

I agree with you. When I used to play a lot, I would see machines go on winning streaks and losing streaks, like they would be perky for a time, or conversely, slow down for long stretches at a time. Not just randomly each spin.

there is no way of knowing whether or not you would have hit anything different. but most likely it would be different because when i was a slot tech 20 years ago, the machines would change combinations 64 times per second. nowadays i'm sure it is more, but i dont know how many times per second.
also on any progressive always press the "bet max" button to avoid such mistakes

I played this last night max bet and it was my last spin and i hit 400$ whoop whoop
You wouldn't have won if you had paid the third credit. The random number generator runs constantly inside the machine even when no one's playing it. The time it would have taken for the third credit to be registered would have been enough of a delay to miss the random number that would have produced the exact same winning combination.

That's not true. The second you press the first bet button the RNG stops. It doesn't continue selecting numbers as the reels spin. It is a gaming regulation that has been programmed into slot machines so that the casinos can't be accused of cheating people when they decide to bet more on the machine.

Quick question: You said at at 11:20 that the amount of credits you bet changes the RNG inside the machine and that a different set of numbers, corresponding to a reel combination, would have come up. Is this really true? Or do you simply mean that the extra 1/2 second it would have taken you to press the button a third time to bet the third credit would have resulted in a different RNG result because of the time required to hit the button an additional time?
I have a theory that the bigger you bet, the less likely bonuses are to hit. I"m trying to find out if there is any validity to that.
For example, it seems hard to bonus on a 100 line stinkin' rich at 5 credits per line, but when I bet 1 credit per line, the bonuses seem to come more frequently.....?

Instead of betting the max $10, a man kept playing $5. All three Quick Hits lined up and it would have been $50,000. That's right fifty thousand dollars, but he wanted to save money. He and his wife withdrew money from the cashier like crazy. This man got nothing because one credit gives nothing for Quick Hits, only the bars like this video.
