Day off work in the garage sitting next to my L67 powered Bedford van flicking through my just delivered Street Machine mag whilst watching carnage build a super mang👍🏻 Life’s good
L67 Bedford 🤔 that’s a different one how she go? Got a modified 253 with performer manifold and 4 barrel holly in our one love it to bits no overheating issues at all.
@@toyvt8 It has good low down torque because of the supercharger and good power when you floor it. The 4spd auto is good for highway cruising and fuel economy as well, really happy with the swap. The stock 202 is an absolute slug to get moving and would guzzle gas.
I am enjoying this build way too much, the way you explain it makes it seem anyone can rebuild one. Keep up the great work and f#$k the haters. 10/10 👍
Scotty, looks like it’s too late now but you can mix and match bearings. Eg. If the STD bearings are too tight and the Extra clearance are too loose, you can use one of each to split the difference to try get the clearances where they need to be. No bullshit. Anyway, good luck and thanks for another good episode.
Nissan did that from the factory . Numbered there bearings and pistons in 4 different stages and depending the factory read outs ran a 1,2,3 or 4 in that slot.
Thank you for the informative video. Lots of videos like this, people do not show what to do when clearances are incorrect. Usually it's "It's good". People need to know how to address the issues. I've been watching Scotty for years, love his content. Keep it up!
Give that shifter a 🏅 medal. Should have a t shirt with Street Machine Carnage written on it. And have the biggest Shifter that can fit printed on the back and front.🔧
Scott Like the Shirt. I swear some car makers make up some really interesting procedures. Yet others assume - you will have the correct equipment. Enjoying the build.
My understanding is that when they list tightening to an angle, thats because the bolts are torque to yield, seeing as you are running main studs that shouldn't yield, you can just torque to a given torque
Scotty, dial bore gauge across the lot is a little more scientific imo, but that just my 2 cents. Nominal size miked to zero and youll get a comparitive reading to the zeroed DBG to mike if that makes sense. Them telescoping gauge dooffers can read hows ya father as u have to be perfectly square on both axis when u lock up where as DBG is more direct. See how u go. Love the diy buzz 100%.😃
Yeah dial bore gauge is much better than the telescope gauge. Plus you’re supposed to measure the vertical dimensions of the bore as the bearings near part line get thinner to allow for the bore contraction as it gets loaded
love that you show the problems too, that is so much a part of making cars (and trucks go faster). Have you ever talked to Kevin Yates Racing in Florida about his aluminum heads for the 3800?
Good work Scotty 🤙 The extra effort will be worth it in the long run. If there’s a local shop where you can hot tank everything before assembly that would definitely be the go. Also when it comes time to oil it up before starting for the first time it might be worth mentioning to people following the build to not use friction modified oils (synthetic) on a new build as it will glaze up the bores. Seen it happen many times..
Mate, if gapping rings are gonna be an ongoing thing in future builds, it's well worth it. I also felt it gave a better finish to the ring ends. Sit down with some old rings, work out a new gap measurement and go at it...best way to learn. And as you've already worked out....slowly, slowly wins the race.
Ive got that same filing rig and a couple of turns of the handle removes a measureable amount. Motor driving mine would end in a bucket of fingered rings!
Scotty mate do the full set, its not like your going to open the engine later anyway, so do it right the first time, the little extra caps in th3e others is just going to let the oil get there a little more and less heat in those caps bearings?
Love to see a ve lfx build at some stage they are becoming very cheap now in the second hand car Market side of things and have some impressive numbers straight out the box
Geeze Scotty, Schmikko Valvoline Shirt, Music and a Ring grinder............ not to mention the haircut. Whats going on? Nice to see the L67 getting closer though, fresh engine and a party pulley and she should be a lotta fun! Whats next? Destroked Barra for the Turbo Taxi?

Almost there. Was given a pair of 18-Degree Heads for my own Buick-6. $800.00 new nearly 20 years ago these sat in their Boxes under a Bench in a Machine Shop which didn't want them because nobody there knew what they were...*Sigh*..these also came with a matching Edlebrock Intake.
Ah, engine building is my zen place 😊 Just out of interest, why didn't you use the dial bore gauge to measure things? Should be more accurate than the telescopic gauges.
Whaaat!?! They totally forgot to mention in the instructions for the bolt tightening procedure to sacrifice a chicken and two goats before the two last 35 degree turns!
