We've spent 800 million dollars on Soto, how can we not spend 200 million for our homegrown star someone who has been the face of this franchise for 5 years. When he comes to bat every Mets fan gets up. Even after having a down year he went ahead and had the most clutch hit in the history of the Mets. There is no New York Mets without the pride of our team, and thats the polar bear.
the face of the franchise is lindor rn but pete is v important to the team. I dnt think hes worth 200m tho (and in all fairness I dont think soto is worth what he got)
@@Gemz0001yeah i think that might be the play honestly, Pete I love the guy but he bats low 200’s Vladdy hitting 330 30-40+ homeruns you add him to this team with Lindor and Soto 😱
If they wait too long Pete and Christian will both be gone Pete is home grown and one of the best power hitters in Mets history give him a good deal cannot be replaced nothing no better in this market and Vientos needs to stay at third or be a DH
This team threw the bag to a outsider but cant even bring back a player that loves playing here and is loved by the fans and is a home grown talent jesus some loyalty. Just proves to show u what we have become unbelievable
I don’t understand? Aren’t the Mets family? Why are the Mets treating their family like this? Isn’t Cohen the richest owner in baseball? Doesn’t money mean nothing to him? Should be no issue for Cohen to overpay Alonso.
Stearns himself said that Pete was right not to. You only have one free agency; he tested the market and changed his narrative in the playoffs. He probably won himself a slightly higher offer. At the same time, Stearns needs him to test the market so that he isn't negotiating with himself. It's business.
It’s about Soto now. If the team thinks it’s worth the money and thinks that he’s sufficient protection for Soto then they probably will try to sign him. He’s not a clutch hitter and there might be better short term solution to get and revisit either the trade deadline or next year’s free agency. This is about long term and Pete isn’t a smart move when you’re a one trick pony.
They’re gonna lose some lifelong fans when they don’t sign him. Because the Soto signing means nothing when you just ditch a fan favorite that hits 40 home runs a year. What are they gonna replace him with? This is a very dumb move of letting him walk because they just spent $800 million to lose fans basically. Same old Mets
@DasFlippityFlop I love Alanso but that's way over paying! Not to mention that would make him 42 at the end of that contract and I don't think Vlad will even get that!
Pete Alonso bet on Himself and Lost Big by Only Hitting 34-HRs and 88-RBIs in His Free Agent Year. The METS Won't Risk these Stats being the New Norm for Pete Alonso by Giving Him a 4+ year & $25M+ Contract.
LMAO. 34/88 is still better than 95% of the MLB. Then he slashed 999 OPS in the playoffs, delivered 4 oppo field home runs, and hit the single most important dinger in the history of the franchise. Way to undervalue one of your star players after he single-handedly put the mets in the playoffs.
@AWaywardWriter Should Pete Alonso give Devin Williams a piece of his future signing bonus for tipping the pitch that Pete Hit the Homer on? It was Frankie Lindor who Hit the HR against the BRAVES to get the METS into the 2024 Playoffs.
We dont need alonso , we need pitching pitching !!!!

Pete’s worth $110-M over 5 years. That’s about the same offer dollar-wise annually that he turned down last year before having a down year. He needs a new batting coach wherever he winds up because his mechanics were so screwed up. Same with Alvarez. His approach of taking first pitches for strikes and swinging at sliders 2 feet outside in the dirt was stunningly ill-conceived. He’s not really wanted by anybody for more than $125-M. Met fans are living in the past. He was nowhere near the threat he was earlier in his career. He had guys on base all year, and couldn’t get them in.
Sign Pete!! What is an extra year and a couple mil AAV? Mets are probably hoping for 23/6 years. You could probably give him 25/7 years and he would be happy to stay in his comfort zone as a Met. Hope he comes back. He CAN’T go to Yankees.
If Pete and his agent are asking for crazy numbers and years.....then I'm okay with moving on from Alonso. I like Pete. He had a good postseason....but his playoff performance was a small sample size ìn comparison to his mediocre career regular season batting average.
Read the writing on the wall... Did anyone see the regular season? Did anyone see the playoffs? The entire time "could this be Petes last at bat with the Mets?" Dude was done before he was gone. Hello? McFly???
Pete is the ideal cleanup hitter for this team. Hope he comes back.
Sign him period!!!! We need Pete!!!

100% correct
Well said
Exactly he's a 120 rbi 40 45 home run guy where you gonna find that so easily
200M for Pete Alonso? That’s emotional 😂
the face of the franchise is lindor rn but pete is v important to the team. I dnt think hes worth 200m tho (and in all fairness I dont think soto is worth what he got)
Sign Pete. Having a core of Lindor, Soto, and Pete for the next 4 to 5 years would be outstanding.
Or Vlad Jr.....😏😏😏

It’s our perfect moment to step in with deferred payment ! USE IT

Should have took that extension Pete.
No, he shouldn't have. The Mets need to pay their franchise player.
Sure at a hometown discount....28 per year!
@@Gemz0001Pete earned his asking price. Especially after what he did in October.
@@waxpackbriefcase3673 yeah they tried & he turned it down.

Pete needs to be with Soto. What a power duo
If he's not going to be back they should get a 1 year guy and try to get Vlady next year
Getting Vlady next year would be crazy. Soto, Lindor and Vladi? 😮

I honestly dont know what the Mets are waiting for... I guess its why i don't own a baseball team lol.
Meta won't vlad he is a free agent next yr
Vlad Guerrero is available next year. Move on. Get some pitching first.
5 year 220 yesterday.
Up to pete Offer will not be highest but will be fair
6/$180
I'll say 6 - 168 that's 28 per year
give him a 10/$300 honestly

They meet half way on a contract
We need to resign Alonso, resign Winker, get 2 ace starters, and 2 great relievers. Get Walker Buhler and Corbin Burnes
Its clear Pete wants to stay a met he he wanted to leave he would before the winter meetings ended fr mets just need to make the deal happen
Bottom line he had the numbers, but did he look that good in big spots? Lets here the opinions.
Are they seriously talking to Pete right now if so they need to sign him
