    Tom Petty once said his goal was to stay pissed off for as long as he could. He knew discontent fueled creativity. Pete is still a little pissed off. And that's just great for us.

      @@gabevachon326 Well, consider this the second time you've read somebody say that Petty's music is mediocre. I can't say that "Something Big" is mediocre. Even though it sounds just like all other Petty songs, it is not as good as many, if not most, of Petty's songs, making it less than mediocre. All this is my opinion, of course, but it is shared by many. OTOH, many think that Petty's music is a national treasure. There is room enough for all musical tastes. No need to be confrontational.

    • @gabevachon326
      @gabevachon326 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tom Petty was unique. A little bit if Creedence, alot of Dylan mixed in with the Byrds and Buffalo Springfield. His band was as good as Springsteen's or Seger's. Better than the Dead. I guess one either liked him alot or not at all.

    If there is every a person that defines the word perseverance, this is the one. It's clear he has had and still has deep emotional issues based the abuse he had to endure and clearly it affected the way he looks at everything, especially his work in THE WHO, he continuously describes how he just didn't really enjoy the life style, however what he did he do? He persevered and became a legend, writing and performing the most iconic music that will be remembered and listened to for ages to come. Way to go Pete. You my friend are an inspiration.

    After seeing the documentary on Pete and how he wrote TOMMY (AXSTV) I can see that his childhood abuse seems to fuel his writing. If that’s the way he comes to terms with his emotions and works it out, that’s great for him. I can listen to him forever. He’s a fascinating man and quite pragmatic about it.
    These Art School musicians have an enduring legacy because of their sensitivity and spiritual side. Pete Townshend is a treasure.

    7:30 - I don't know if there was an "Electric Factory" in Chicago, but there was in Philly! That's where I saw the Who for the first time! A little warehouse in downtown Philly. Small place with one entrance where the bands had to walk through the crowd to get to the stage. Great light show and coffins in the back that were angled so you could lie down and still see the show if you were too wrecked! Little benches where we all huddled together to see the show. The stage was only a couple of feet high, like the benches. They came through the crowd holding their instruments above their head and played "Tommy" from beginning to end! It was an AMAZING JOURNEY! Everyone was stoned on pot and acid! Whether they intended to be or not! The ceiling was only about 18 feet and painted black like the walls and day glow paint accented everything! Stobe lights made the whole thing surreal! The smoke got quite thick and the acid came out in your sweat, so there was no avoiding the BUZZ with people rubbing shoulders the whole night long!

    I thought this was going to be about the first time he researched child abuse via a Russian website which he paid with a credit card. It’s such a shame that he didn’t do the obvious thing & have other people with him at the time who were party to his intentions and understood them. It’s also a shame that he didn’t discuss with the police that he intended to access a child pornography website for the purposes of his research & sought permission beforehand (it would’ve been refused outright of course). He must have forgot to do this. A bit like how it’s easy to forget this incident happened at all in interviews like this.

I initially didn't plan to go because I was stupidly afraid of being disappointed after an incredible Quadrophenia concert in Montreal a few years before. But when I heard that the tour was maintained despite the passing of John, I said "Hats off, if this is not rock'n'roll attitude, then what is ? I owe them to go !", and I drove hundreds of kms.
    Anyway, I just wanted to say that being very close to the stage, through Pete's playing I witnessed all his anger and sadness and rage at loosing a dear friend. Sheer brilliance. It was for me as intense as seeing Hendrix on stage, to the point that I experienced a "musical orgasm".
